very expensive leh

I bought my D70 with Kit at $2100 in February this year and mine, it had dropped so much! Anyway, in this time frame, I had also build up my arsenals to include the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX, Nikkor 60mm Micro, Nikkor 50 mm f/1.4, Sigma 50-500mm, Tokina 70-200 mm f/2.8, Tokina 300mm f/4 , SB-22s, SB-800, 2 x teleconverter, batteries, eye piece magnifier, remote controller, laptop for mobile editing etc and this hobby just cause me to spend more and more but no regrets... :)

Why am I saying all this? Cos whatever savings you achieve down the road just by simply waiting for the right price would mean nothing when you upgrade as your photographic needs grow. Sure, you might tell yourself that you will be disciplined and curb your spending and that you will be just happy with the affordable D70 + kit only but based on what I read and my experiences etc, many people here can bear testimony that once you indulge in photography and land yourself a DSLR, you are hopelessly entrenched in a world of uncontrolled spending and spending and unlimited days on the infamous "roti" diet... ;p

Now, shall I buy that Nikkor 70-200mm VR???

Not everyone will need to spend that much money. When I first learn taking photo in my school days (20+ years ago), I have a Minolta XDs with a simple 50mm f1.8 lens only. I took quite a bit of picture including rolling my own B&W film from bulk, develop and print them. I don't even have a zoom (too expensive for me). After I start working and have my Nikon F-801, I still only have three lens : Tokina ATX 20-35mm (I love wide angle!), 35-70mm (kit lens), Sigma APO 75-300mm. Totally non-overlapping and maximize the range without breaking the bank. Today, I stopped shooting film and using my Coolpix 5000 with the 19mm wide converter and having equivalent range of 19mm to 85mm. I still feel good about the zoom range. It is no need to buy extra-ordinary equipment to enjoy photography. Though, I am thinking of buying a D70. The only stopper is the cost of a 20mm equivalent lens. Man, wide angle are so expensive for DSLR!!! I guess I will continue to keep my Coolpix 5000 for those wide angle shoots.

 Oh.... so now they ask you to draw eh? Well, mine was 3mths flat... and yes I got it from Harvey Norman's Jurong Pt re-opening sale. I did my calculations and felt that it was a good bargain with instalment payment(which is what I have been looking for), so I got it...

Only thing is now East Gear is selling the 2GB CF card at 266... Just saw it on their website.... Haiz... But as they say... such things are never stopping.... it was once 2100 without anything and now it's down to 1680.... As long as you did your calculations and felt that it was the right price for you... GET IT.

Then go and SNAP SNAP SNAP! :bsmilie: (And as espn says... BUY BUY BUY - more add-ons.... lenses, filters, extra batts, etc..... :blah: )

Oh yeah... I did have 3 other lens before I bought this set.... :p

So What Is the lastest Update on the price of D70?
Which shop?
What goodies do we get for the purchase of D70?

Is the promotion at Harvey Norman still on? Anyone? :)

I think its still on.. Just saw one buying at Jurong point on monday..

I agree with you totally...DSLR lack wide angle at good price....

D70 still makes in Thailand...sigh, hope Nikon takes away that word "Made in Thailand"....

I heard Canon D300 and the Olyumpus camera are all made in Japan....at least QC are guarantee...

I am a fan of Nikon but the last time, I bought a D70 (from someone who won 1st price at the Commex), the camera immediately pop up an error, " Shutter error". I returned back the camera and got my money back but not after stamping on Nikon marketing manager for spoiling their image for giving away a lemon set.

BTW, I was in Australia and the dealer there told me to beware of Singapore dealer who were selling the D70 as some of the sets were 2nd rejects. This mean that the sets have some QC problem and were fixed here and sold off. I am not sure if this is true and certainly if anyone has any information, please share it with the rest

wow... sure or not ? QC problem still sell to public??? if this is true, how do we tell?
crossing my fingers and hoping this isn't true.....

:bsmilie: I think the Aussie dealer see you good to "sian", hence makeup story to persuade you to buy from him. ;)

You said fixed here, "here" is where? Singapore or Aussie?

DSLR has no international warranty and Nikon Singapore control all the stocks with serial no starting with 7. Just think and you should find his claim fishy. :nono: :bsmilie:

cannot be QC problems, nikon controls very strick.
if there are some QC problems, then why so many Defect body from nikon, QC guys already fired by nikon due to their bad job attitude to produce so many defect sets before these QC guys try to send the defect products back to reproduce ?
Nikon Camera not Nike Shoe, hehe.

and where those dealers find some many kit lenses to accompany so many defect bodies?

i think those grey sets in some store may got this kind of chance, but in the normal well known shops providing SG local warranty should not be.

btw, anyone got any idea, which shop got the best deal for D70 body only and providing SG warranty?
my friend may consider to get one.
can kindly share some information?

Anyone got any idea what other harvey Norman branches are offering??

OT: Is there a HN branch at Tampines mall? I cannot find it though I saw it advertised on TV.
