Can you live with only 5 minutes video capture limit?

Can you live with only 5 minutes video capture limit?

The video capability of the D90 is never targetted at the pro but it is for many casual photographers like myself. And 5 mins per clip is more than enough for many of us. Not to forget one could shoot multiple 5 min clips for as long as the storage space of a relatively cheap SD card permits.

I would like to anologus this to instead of having a Ferrari, one could have a MX 5 which my not be very fast, but cheaper, yet has a small boot space to carry a golf set occasionally when needed.

What is wrong with my D80? I hate Nikon! haha.

I am sure next time the movie function will be available in the D400X or whatever models. So let it mature first.

400ft of 16mm film can only shoot 11mins at 24fps. 35mm film would be even shorter... and more expensive!! Think film.. not video... ;p

so WHAT R U WAITING FOR? SELL UR D300 NOW!

you've got a ready buyers.

on side note. u ain't going to be a master behind the body if everyday u do is buy and then sell.

my 2 cents worth.

just bought the d300 not too long back, now i feel heartbroken coz i feel d90 is more useful to me....

d300 is superb is so many ways, but i love taking video also and the ability to take video with DOF control/change of lenses is worth a LOT to me... was actually thinking of buying those HD Camcorder and mod it take different camera lens (would have set me back a few k)...

but now d90 come out and i still have my d300.... u guys think i shd sell d300 and buy d90?

:dunno:;(

why did u buy the D300 in the first place? are you into photograhy or videography? when another new cam release later, are you gonna ask the same question again??

I don't think you should sell your D300.. After all the D90 is meant for taking photos not videos.. The video feature is just something extra.

Well said!

the D300 is a very good camera, just continue using it....
if you like to have taking video capability, then you can consider those mini camcorders... they come pretty cheap nowadays and
can definitely take better videos then D90....

just bring it together with the D300 when you go out and can shoot both at the same time and get the best quality of video and photo...
cheers :)

for video taking, might not be enough... for film making, just have to plan the shots well... :)

Don't be like the guy shown in this thread

Haa...... This is hilarious, but yeah, buy what you need and use it..... not what's the newest !

I love the fact that the D90 is out cos that will make the price of the D300 and D80 lower.... haha..... then perhaps I can upgrade !

Frankly, if u lust for the D90, why not keep ur D300 and just go buy a video cam ? I think it'll still be cheaper. You prob can get a darn decent one for the price of the D90.

Oh, BTW, heard that the D90 is coming to SG in early Oct and body only is about S$1500..... this was from the guy owning a reputable camera shop in Funan..... so, we don't have that much longer to wait to feel the D90 in our palms...

exactly !

no la, you should take the time and go visit the threads tat are posted about two to three years back.

Back then so many of the pros here made sarcastic remarks to newbies in dslr, saying dslr is a CAMERA NOT A VIDEO CAMERA. They even laugh it off saying "wan take video, go use video cam la"

Its because of this dinosaur mindset of these pros back then that the video function is not included, until now then the majority realise the need for the video, thats where the d90 comes in. (even those that made the sarcastic remarks earlier are wowing at the video function now)

we consumers will benifit because it opens a new era in technology where dSLR finally have movie recordings years overdue as with the digital compact camera :bsmilie:

why would D90 drive down D300's price?... if D300's price go down, wouldn't it cut into the D90's market?... and the D300 is higher speced in stills department than D90 so the price diff should not be affected what... :)
24p is crap.
compared to what?... I'm sure there'll be some 50p or 60p option for you in the future ;p:bsmilie:

I think its only now that the technology has matured, combined with the fact that the camera manufacturers are running out of ideas to product differentiate, that video has come to DSLRs... the camera companies are usually not very responsive to what the majority of consumers think they need... ;)

Haha. But that's to be expected for the cycle of technology. I cant think of a camera equalavent to quote but when Toyota first made it's first model - people laughed off it and called it a joke. And now, it seems they are finding a major brand to boot.

But really, i find video useful for those priceless moment. For example in a birthday party when the song is sung with the lighted birthdat cake, i find the video moment of this priceless compared to photos. Why? The voices, songs and the priceless expression of the face is hard to replicate on photos(single frame)

I beg to differ.. I'm buying the D90 to replace my hardly used and dated Panasonic 3CCD DV video camera.
