Thanks Alan Yeo,

Then the guy behind the phone does not know what he is talking about. I asked him 3 times, are you sure the optical viewer finder is included? Yes, Yes, Yes.:bsmilie:

Anyway, will go down later to pick one up.

No prob. One thing to look out for is the 3 years warranty whether is it available only during the grand opening (27 April 07 to 01 May 07) ....mine as confirmed by MS is 3 years but warranty card stated 1 year ???:dunno: ....so i trust MS and kept the reciept and brochure ....just in case ....

Just a few days old and theres already a v1.12 firmware update for the GX100. Nothing major.

http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/download/firmware/gx100/

Revision history

Date Version Details
2007.05.02 1.12 Modified the following phenomena.
• If you register the Aperture priority mode (A mode) in the [My setting 2], a shutter speed will be fixed.
• With your setting the [SEQUENTIAL NO.] is ON, after a file number reached to "9999", the "File Number Over" message will appear and you will not able to take a picture any more.
[Note] You can see the current file number in the LCD (page 23 of the Camera User Guide), for the details of the [SEQUENTIAL NO.] is available in page 159 of the Camera User Guide.

has anyone tried to update yet? for some reason, i can't. :dunno:

For extended warranty, your wty card must be stamped stating 'Extended warranty". Diz stamp is only available to the guy (Harry) from the agent. :)

Follow this Procedure to update using SD card.
For Step 7->>> "Holding down both the (2) [Playback button] and the (3) [Mode button], until the information appears in the LCD of the camera."
Press and hold [Mode button] then press and hold [Playback button] (without releasing the mode button). If successful, you'll see instructions on the LCD to execute the update.

Hope this helps

The 'roadshow' sales were handled by staff from the agent (APD/Sigma?) The actual MSC staff don't seem too familiar with the GX100 because its so new so maybe they're just confused between EVF and OVF.

Also I think the EVF/WA/Adapter kit isn't in stock yet (next monday according to APD).

Thanks. I got one. But the staff is pretty useless. I wonder how he got hired. The guy I called told me a lot of stuffs are included but he made a mistake. This will be my first and last patronage at MSC.

I think staffs needs briefing and understanding of the equipments. It is just embarassing not to know what you are selling. :dunno:

My experience with them has been pretty good so far, but ultimately its important to check out the details first. A few people here have already indicated to you there is no OVF (but EVF), no "MP4" player for $999 which is already a very good price for the bundle. So were you expecting an OVF (from the GRD) and a free MP4 player?

I had asked 3 times to reconfirm and the answer was "Yes". He said, MP4 included. Optical viewfinder also included and paused to ask for a reconfirmation.

The main reason I posted this thread was because I did not believe him. I know what I am getting. They have an online brochure of their GX100 package.

Anyway, it is over. I got what I want and will be off shooting. :) Just that I won't go back to MSC. Every consumer has either a good or bad experience, and mine was the latter.

Its not like you got conned by them. Its a trivial incident, you knew the guy made a mistake, people here even double clarified whats in the bundle but yet you chose to make a big deal out of it

Can GX100 do time lapse?

I used the memory card method and it works just fine.

Same here...

Diz is wat I did (taken from Ricoh site):

3-1) If you do not yet install RICOH Gate La/Caplio Mounter:
The following method does not use the FirmUpdate tool, which does not require the RICOH Gate La / Caplio Mounter in your computer.

For Windows (Windows Vista/XP/2000/Me)
For Macintosh (Mac OS 9.0 - 9.2.2, Mac OS 10.1.2 - 10.4)

1. Download the firmware file from this page to your computer. Double click the downloaded file to decompress it. Or it will be automatically decompressed and mounted by your system. You might need the latest version of an unstuffing software if you fail the decompression. Find the following files in the folder extracted; [slaunch3], [slaunch7].
2. Format an SD card by the camera.
3. Confirm if the USB connection of the camera is set to the [MASS STR] mode, not the [ORIGINAL] mode. To change the USB setting, see page 158 in the Camera User Guide that came with your camera.
4. Turn off the camera and connect the camera to a computer using a USB cable. The camera should be automatically mounted in a computer as a removable disk/volume.
5. Copy the files, [slaunch3], and [slaunch7] to the root directory in the camera volume.
6. Disconnect the camera from a computer with proper method. Turn off the camera and turn the mode dial to the [Movie mode], (1) in the figure below.
7. Holding down both the (2) [Playback button] and the (3) [Mode button], until the information appears in the LCD of the camera.
8. Follow the instruction in the LCD to complete the update.

Think there r some new n temp staff employed juz for the period. Usually their staff r well informed as IIRC they have meeting every now and then. ;)

Er updated OK but cannot remember what I did as it did not work for the first time following their instructions than I thought it is a bit stupid to just copy the 2 files when you downloaded so many (including th .bin files) and copy all of them but not to the root as I think it also did not work.
I think I copied all the files to the DCIM folder and it worked after that.

Same here...

After ensuring all settings r correct (especially USB and dial setting), I:

1) Formatted the SD card.
2) Plug the cam to PC via cable.
3) Copied the 2 files (slaunch3 and slaunch7) to the root folder (where the DCIM folder is NOT into it).
4) Disconnected the cam.
5) Pressed the Play and Mode button simultaneously.
6) Accepted the execution prompt.

and... Voila!!!

The cam did everything!

Finally I confirmed the updated version by pressing the Play and Macro simultaneously.

Some test shots from me... All straight out of box. Only resized for upload... I like them...
