I most certainly DO NOT believe using that kind money to buy service in the sense of myLau. What happens if you lose your buying power one fine day? Will these fair-weathered people still want to entertain you like a king? It's like they treat you like dirt cos they THINK you don't have the money... or when you're just browsing. Just cos you spend more, they suck up to you.
Very true. Think about what the salesman at Alan Photo is probably thinking (in a mirror of mylau's post):
"Hee hee... want to serve mylau with me? We always treat him like a king here. Served by 2 or 3 salesman. Let him try whichever camera is in the shop. Sometimes even let him take the cameras himself. He can remove any lens he wants from the showcase and fix to his camera to test them out. He's even tried most of our compact flash cards.
This is despite the fact that most of the time he is wearing only a T-shirt and a pair of bermudas.
Why is he treated differently????????
Cause he is a
salesman's dream. He buys lots and lots of equipment, and is willing to change systems too! He bought a EOS 1D from us when he sold his D1x. Without bargaining some more, we made an extra $200 like that! So it's very impt... Guess who he's going to come to when he needs to replace them? So it's very important you don't give him good advice, otherwise he won't need to buy and sell all the time, and then we lose business.
Come on guys and girls, this is a very practical world. If you want good
photographs, you got to spend lots of
time and effort. If you want to think throwing every penny you at buying expensive equipment will help you take better pictures, then I won't be able to help you."
Back to the topic though..
Having dealt with Alan Photo many many times (yea, I'm a cheapskate, sorry, I not rich like some of the guys here such as our resident Mr. Moneybags.

Sorry Edmund. Heheh), I can safely say that's probably what's going through their mind. They do sieze up who's a potential buyer, or who is just merely shopping for information. And in JerChan's case, being in a school uniform wasn't exactly the best presentation. Why? The reason is because of their location; SLS attracts a fair number of tourists and the spillover from students who buy computer stuff(see HWZ for an example of the demographic). Not all tourists are pleasent to deal with, and students.. well, let's say some of them I'd gladly smack them with my monopod.... not an excuse for the behaviour, nonetheless, just an insight and explanation to what goes on in a typical SLS salesman's mind.
