I think it is more of ... be considerate and reasonable. We don't have to 'beg' for their service, likewise ... the salesperson is not obliged to roll out the red carpet treatment for every person that strolls into the shop.
Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion of each merchant. But as one forum member said, don't let one experience determine your future judgement.
Hey, I believe if you are a nice customer, and the salesperson still bo-chap, then just too bad for him/her cos there goes their potential commission/sales. There is more than one shop right? But if they are sole agent then too bad lor ....
