Just went to Alan Photo in SLS this afternoon. Previously bought a 1GB Lexar 40X WA CF card at S$380 and intended to get another piece or a 2GB. The guy who served me was very rude. I told him I bought it at S$380 just 1 month ago and he said its impossible to give me the same price cos its below cost. I didn't believe it as I got the receipt to prove it. Then I asked him the price for the 2GB and said there is no stock rudely and told me to find it myself in the cupboard to check.

Very poor CS. I just walked out of the shop and went to East Gear to get it. AP is added to my blacklist of shops now and will never ever buy or recommend my overseas colleagues again to this shop. It has just become another shop like the others in SLS. :thumbsd:

hoho.... :) Basically just like a hooligan shop. Have very bad experience with them. Dunno Y still so recommended by some of the Csers..Mayb those who recommended are ppl who patron and spent alot in that shop. Probably if there is a rating I will give it a D....

Put it this way, If a shop is good they should serve everyone with the same altitude, need not to fake alot of hospitalilty, just need to show some basic courtesy and sincerity. Especially they r working in this kind of service line...they should even know all these.

I don't work for AP, nor like to reply to threads like these, but I can guess why some of u received so called "poor service" .... give u a tip if u want to buy from AP.

First of all, get to know their names... salesman A with permed hair, salesman B who look like ah beng is not going to help. I bet they don't know your name either (the guy in green polo always asking for bargain) :bsmilie:

Prices of items go up and down.... do some research before going in any shop, not just AP.

Not everything in AP is the cheapest...if u don't like the price, bargain, can't get the price u want, walk out :) Most of the time, some CSers do get prices that we won't bother bargaining.

If AP was really that "bad", it wouldn't have survived till now. Neither would u see some of us chit-chatting with those "gangsters" as some of u mentioned.

Feel sorry for those of you who received poor services. Say all you want about them, frankly, I bochap

Want good service? Pay premium price.

Am not working for AP but just realise how Singaporean always wanted good service but not willing to pay extra....

Typical Singaporean mindset.. always want CHEAP and the BEST...

Looks like we are paying extra in AP but we still didn't get the good service at all

Hi members,

As in any retail environment, some people may experience great or exemplary service, while others may experience the complete opposite and I suspect most of us probably experience average service (maybe slightly above, maybe slightly below ... but still acceptable without any complaints).

The variables involved are many and I cite a few examples :-
1. Shop is crowded / peak period = likely you will receive less than full top-to-toe service
2. Salesperson just closed big deal 15 mins before you walked in = very happy to serve you
3. Haven't had lunch yet = may be a bit grouchy/impatient to see you off so that he/she can eat
4. Boss just gave payrise/angpow = very happy to serve you

The attitude of the customer is also important - striding in expecting people to serve you hand and foot will not get you anywhere (unless you are the Sultan of ____ insert country here).

Needless to say, both customer and retailer needs to play their part.

Well said.

its not a question of price. We arnt bitching about them ripping us off.
its about the service attitude. or rather the lack of good attitude.

someone mentioned its a customer and retailer relationship.
I totally agree.
I was IMPECCABLY polite. They were curt and rude.
Perhaps, they just dont like queen's english.
or they just dont like students.

Personally, AP prices are about the same as everyother shop in SLS.

thats a very sweeping statement that you have made.
there are people who pay good money for good service.
At least, imho, the newer and younger generation(me) are doing that right now.

20 bucks difference. Between AP and another shop.
I would rather pay 20 bucks extra so that I can go back and have same level of service and will not be intimidated to ask questions when I have too. Not to mention being able to build a friendly environment to shop in.

Of course there will be customers who experience good service at AP, but it does not serve as a consolation or something for those of us who didnt get the good service. If anything, it just proves even further that they 'choose' their customers which personally, I think is VERY STUPID.

I personally wont go back to AP. Song brothers offered much friendiler service.

Sometimes it may not be just 20 bucks, difference between a reputable shop in Peninsula with them is about $200+

Among cathay, ms and ap, ap got the cheapest price and may differ up to $100 or more with the others.

It's normal that people will look for cheaper shops but attitude like their will definitely put people off.

i seem to get the best service whenever i go to AP. its different elsewhere. maybe its because i stick to one salesman who knows my name and i know his. having a relationship with a salesman is very important. and i havent spent alot there. just a 300D kit and a couple of cheap lenses.

Really ah?
AP can be so cheap meh? U guys are saying other places are not bargainable?
I ask the price for tamron 90mm macro. These the quotes I get :
CP : 540
AP : 540
MS : 570

Not much different I guess except price I get from MS colors is abit on the high side. Should be able to slash the price further.

Things are likedat loh..The more stuffs u get from them they are able to cut down further. If the 200 bucks different come from buying a 5-6000 dollars equipment..for me I will choose to buy from some1 that is more polite(at least not beng..feel rather intimidating!). Rather than risking for being treatened or watever when going back to them for some other post-sales support.

Again I say BULL to those still going on about timing, good guys and bad guys.

You think this is still 4 to 5 years ago? You could safely recommend a foreign friend there and say "Hey Alan Photo is a good shop, they won't rip you off and the service is decent." Well, fast forward to 2004 and wake up.
