AF-S 85mm F/1.4G N

hahaha....in this case, there's a still-wonderful AFD version - so for those who don't have one already, can just buy the ones that will be dumped in the used market while waiting for AFS.

Yes I just grab one of the BnS. A bit dust internally but image wise, I am both hands up. sweet lens and top with very creamy bokeh.

Shouldn't be long... :)

According to Nikonrumors - this lens will be announced in a few hours time :)

Looks like a minor redesign of the older D version... 10 elements now, but still the same min focus distance of 0.85m. No mention of ED or aspherical elements used. Should we expect only a minor improvement in IQ, like from the 50 AFD to AFS?

In a way, I'm glad that Nikon chooses to maintain a purist approach to some of its newer lens designs. I'm guessing that introducing VR means having more lens elements means lesser IQ (like in hi-fi). Still, Nikon has shown that they can do wonders with the new 70-200 VRII -- despite its enormous complexity -- but what do I know about lens design?? :)

On the waiting list for the 85mm already :)

Waited way too long for this!!!

Retail price is around S$2598...gosh another increase.

This is quite expensive for a prime lens. I feel :dunno:

Price keeps going up & up...

All the F1.4 primes are above $2k. I hope the CA is better now. Where is the waiting list ? D700 > $2000, 24 f1.4 another > $2000, this 1 another > $2000. Getting expensive.

pretty sure it will still be more ex than the existing 85mm 1.4 so above 2k not surprising. canon 85 is 1.2 leh. u reckon nikon will sell a 85mm 1.2 any cheaper than canon? :bsmilie:

Well, if its any consolation..... all PC-E lenses are over $3k.

overpriced and yet it will still sell as ppl are yearning for it. I will stick with the Afd

I too feel that Nikon lenses have gone up a bit too much in price. If the AFS 85 sells for about SGD 2500 here that will bring it very close to the Canon 1.2L, which is an aspherical lens.

Price is expected to be around S$2,150 when launched in SG... hopefully can drop to S$2,000 soon...

Now... to wait 2-3 months for delivery.. :bsmilie:

i guess a lens being overpriced or not totally depends on consumers. i believe tons of ppl will buy the afs 85/1.4 without blinking an eye so on nikon's part they priced the afs85 very smartly. i think many ppl felt the afd 85/1.4 was very ex but all suck thumb still buy.
