AF-S 85mm F/1.4G N

I doubt that 35mm will be priced around the same range as the 50G since there's nano crystal coating on this one...and the gold ring

35 1.4 except 2k+ just like the canon L ...

yeap, agree on that.
if it's the 35 1.4, it should match the performance and price range of the canon 35L.

if i'm not wrong, a new 35 1.4 AI-S already cost about the same as the 50 1.4G?

There is a 35mm f1.4 AIS selling at $900 in B&S section which is more expensive than a brand new 50mm f1.4.

Here is a pic of the 85mm AF-D on D90 for reference... any thoughts? :)

What I don't get is why Nikon would be VR on wide-angle zoom lenses but not on short tele-lenses...

the 35mm f1.4 should be cheaper than the 24mm f1.4 right?

I hope it is significantly cheaper as 35mm should be easier to design than 24mm right? Closer to 50mm...

lets hope it is below 2k but I seriously doubt it.

tough to say if it will be significantly cheaper, but i doubt it will be selling below 2k.

*Waiting patiently for Photokina... :) *

If my speculation is right...

I believe that lens showed is an 85mm. The focusing will work very much like the 50mm f1.4G,
purists may complain that the new 85mm's focusing is slower than the previous AF-D 85mm f1.4,however it should be more accurate and less hunting.

color, contrast and CA probably improved quite a bit, meaning out of camera shots should look very tasty. I wish to believe that the bokeh is also creamier

lets all just wait patiently for it to come.

I would have to agree. After seeing the way the 50/1.4 AFD went to 50/1.4 AFS G, I'd expect the same for the 85mm.

Slightly slower AF I can accept but if like the 50/1.4, it costs 1.5x to 2x more....
I'd hate to see the 85/1.4 AFS to cost as much as Canon's 85L.

Think it should cost around $2000... hopefully something will be announce this august :)

I can see a number of 85mm 1.4 D being dumped at B n S already! :bsmilie: Wow, power man - if this one beats the already king of portraits and bokeh!

At least the 50mm f/1.4 AFD can focus.

Looking on the bright side, it means for folks who oogle at the AFD 85mmf1.4 previously, now would be a good time to snag one :bsmilie:

Oh I wholesome agree! However I'm still on DX, so my interest on the D model has waned... Voigtlander 58mm may entice my tastebuds better... :bsmilie:

Hmmm....although I'd be very interested in getting a new AFS version, I would also probably keep my AFD version for the aperture ring. Either that or get AFS 1.4 and AFD 1.8 and sell the AFD 1.4. Let's see...

For me, AF accuracy on the current AFD is already good. Probably may not see as much improvement as compared to the 50/1.4 AFD going to AFS.

I found the accuracy of the focusing of the 50mm AFS wanting... I tested 2 and both were just off (no dispute). Whether they were lemons or not I don't know.. but I was a very eager buyer :( due to the 9-blades... sigh...

:(

go get it checked out?

as for me, i still find myself going out with my AFD more. it shares 52mm filters with my 35/2.

oh yar, which reminds me, i hope the new AFS 85mm will still be have a 77mm thread (although i don't see it being any other).

which body did you test it on? My 50mm afs focus quite badly with D5000 and D90 but very well with D700...

D3 and D3x. Its the only lens that has failed to focus so far. I have so far tested many AI, AIS, AFD and a few AFS lenses. Only the 50mm AFS has back focused.
