$1027 is on the high side, since the quotes from the other shops are inclusive of GST as reported by other members, but anyway, I won't worry about it now, just go out and take pictures! :)

The blinking red light means that camera is unable to focus on the object, either because there is insufficient light for the AF phase detection to work, or because the subject is closer than the minimum focus distance of the lens (25cm for the kit lens). Since you are trying to do macro, most likely it's the latter.

If you zoom your lens to max telephoto at 55mm, then at 25cm you get about 1:3 magnification which is quite good, but max aperture at f/5.6 is not optimal. If you are really into macro shots, then a macro lens capable of 1:1 magnification will be the next step... it will cost some money of course. Or if you are adventurous enough, there are alternative macro methods that are cheaper, like reverse mounting lens, extension tubes and closeup filters. For myself, I'm using a Raynox DCR-250 closeup filter.

neither would i, it's already bought, plus it's not an astronomical difference, as figures go, or as a percentage. :)

suggest cutiedoggy to join our monthly outings to learn more on the basics, never too young :bsmilie:

THANKS FOR ALL THE WARM WELCOME! :D

oh its was the older guy who attended to me haha! yeah he keep telling me that for locals should choose canon/nikon cause got wider len range, but the thing was i cant afford to buy all right? so this doesnt really matter to me. then initially i wan see the pentax right, he very reluctant to let me try, just took out battery then went on talking about the fujifilm one saying that its an all-rounder and all sorts, even brought me outside of shop to take a night shot and say 'see without flash also very clear'. BUt i was not really that convinced, cause the white pentax there too chio to resist le =X

i got it for $1027 (with gst), not sure if its overpriced though cause other shops i called, i was quoted around $960 but not sure if included gst not.

Probably one of the reason they recommend you Canon and Nikon is because of the "lens". If you do a check, their lenses are anything but cheap.

With all the marketing ploys around - once you buy a Canon or Nikon and realize that the Vibration Reduction/Shake Reduction/Image Stabilization or whatever term they use to describe it is not inside the camera and that it doesn't support all the legacy lenses. You're just going to get "chopped" every time you buy a new lens. Somehow, i've always believed that they (Canikon) did it on purpose to sell more lenses.

Now, isn't it better to have a Pentax with Dust Reduction and Shake Reduction all packed inside a nifty package? ;)

Yup... i didn't see any k20d around. K7 and K-x only... unless you count 2nd hand market. :)

T K Foro still has some K20Ds around for $1040 (Body only)

MS Color doesn't look like the best go-to place for Pentax stuff anymore, being significantly more expensive than the other shops. Pity, I used to like that place.

You got an offer of less than $1200 for a 500D kit1? You should probably check if that includes GST. The price for the kit1 is ~$1250 at most places (see http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518391 ) unless there has been a recent price drop by Canon.

I agree. Am a regular there since the beginning of my hobby with SLR and that was after NS. Now they do not stock and if you want they will order for you... Cannot try out is not fun . . .

so it is likely to say that new k20d are rare in sg le? cos i was also considering kx and k20d, but i guess i would have like the k20d feel better :)

T K Foto in Beach Road still has some . . .

If looking for k20d, I would prefer a second hand one. Probably can get at $750-800. Price aside, I would still take a k20d any day as I need some of the pro features and value built quality and handling.

hmm if really got stock, i need to see if i really need k20d instead of kx, thanks for the info ;)

This was last week's info that I got as I called on behalf of a friend. Initially he wanted a D90 and I put my K20D in his hands and after taking some shots of his hand made bears (he is a bear maker), we compared the pics on my laptop and guess what, you could see the strains of bear hair from the K20D pics but not from the D90 and at 1600/3200 the K20D still has detail vs D90 getting grainy . . . So now he is waiting to get bhis hands on a K-7 hehehehe;p:devil:

The best poison is to put the Pentax DSLR into a poisonee's hands and that person will definitely get poisoned hehehe

i haven got a hand of k20d myself, was previously set on canon 50d until kx caught my attention on pentax. Hopefully i can have a feel on k20d, that would be great!

Hi, just want to feedback about my brief experiences with Kx.

Well i bought the white kx , used it for a day and traded it for a G1...
These are my feedback

- Damn fast autofocusing and very good images output.
- Quite heavy cos of the 4 x AA nimh batts..
- Has to have the loudest shutter click and autofocusing i ever hear in my life.
My wife can hear me focusing and clicking few metres away...imagine that..
(damn bad for candid shooting..)
-built quality is very toy-like..unless u go for the black version.
But that defeats the purpose as everyone loves it for its colours. My point is, go to a pentax dealer, hold it, feel the built, hear the sound of the flash pop up, hear the sound of it focusing( it goes " shee shee shee shee" quite loudly..then click for a shot and hear the flipping of mirror.........and feedback if you are still
as impressed....

Im not here to flame pentax or anything..I do agree colours and AF speed all all pretty impressive. Im just saying build quality and motor quality of focusing mechanism really leaves much to desire.. when compared to the other brand's entry cameras..

To Each His Own, i guess.

For me i will not bother about the sound created by the flash pop up, or focusing mechanism for the matter as I will seldom shoot in quiet-pin-drop areas. More than often during my walkabouts, the sound(noise) created by an incoming cars, bikes, or buses MUTES any sounds made by the camera.

Maybe camera shops should start playing loud music:think: heh

Yeah, I can see how the K-x might not be the right camera to use for shooting XMM upskirts :D
It sounds to me like you are comparing the noise the K-x makes against PnS and micro 4/3 cameras. You're not comparing K-x against other DSLRs.
Fair enough that DSLRs are probably not for you and micro 4/3 suits you better. But it's unfair and misleading to specifically criticize the K-x just because that is the one DSLR you tried.

ha..woeful wabbit..why are you making that kind of assumptions?? i have owned the Nikon D90, Canon 500D and a have only recently delve into M43s..
And my using of M43 system is as i need to bring my cam to work these days, i appreciate the lighter weight.

And it is true that i am comparing the Kx noises to M43 system, whice is why i rate the focusing speed and image to be outstanding.
I wont even try to compare the Kx noises to for what i experienced, say a D90 or 500D for you will know the difference when you do try.

And for god say, pls dont make personal attacks like
"Yeah, I can see how the K-x might not be the right camera to use for shooting XMM upskirts "
Its just childish and irrelevent. Grow up.
My point in feeding back here is to offer my experiences with the Kx.
I don't believe the users here would ALL ONLY like to hear how GOOD how PERFECT Kx is..

I guess we shouldn't expect too much ya? k-x is only $960 with kit lens. You cant really expect everything to be perfect right? And most entry level dslr's shutter sound is quite loud. I have used my friends' 1000D and D40 before. Just that the sound is different. M43 system has got no mirror. so naturally, there wont be any mirror slapping sound.

People who needs quiet shutter can choose to buy the k-7. Its really quiet.

the af motor has been quite loud and whiney in all pentax bodies.. My friends using other brands thought something was spoilt with my af!! I guess most of the guys here are used to it by now. of course there are situations where it could be a disadvantage, but i think most of the time it's just a self-conscious thing. I rmb the k100d had a really loud clacky mirror slap, unlike the refined nikon sound but much better than the 'click-zee' on the 500d. Must be the lack of weather sealing tt causes it to be so loud, bcos its near silent on the k-7!

haha yah. thats the only thing i miss on my K100d. Very long never hear the mirror slapping sound already :bsmilie:

hah yea, i was already pretty irritated when i was testing it at OP..but i thought i ll get
used to it..but when i started shooting later that night, i only grew more aware..at first only shutter click ,
then i heard the flash pop up..ha..then focusing got to me..and i gave up..ha

I haven't played with the k-x yet (trying to poison friends to buy it) but im curious, why do u say the build quality on the coloured versions is toy like? Are the materials used different from the black one?
