A99

- a99 is first of their dslt. will the next dslt will be incremental in features?

It's the first of the DSLT full frame, but not the first full frame. compared to the A850/A900 it's a gigantic leap in features. Full frame cameras have a much slower cycle than the consumer-level models.

Did u not feel a33/55 evf was testing the mkt? I feel cheated with the Awb tat they got right in a99

No, the EVF was LCD technology which was cheaper to make than OLED, thus keeping prices low for you too. Sony was still fine-tuning the OLED VF as well. As for AWB (which has no link to the EVF), in the same camera class the sonys are well-known to be pretty good.

- on mk2, I shoot weddings with a partner who's on mk2 and now mk3. I am insistent on Sony. But objectively I do ask myself if canon y canon if Sony y sony. As it is now I won't switch cos I like sony. But I will b renting a99 on needs basis or til the pricing is cosy with me. I was hurt when after a33/55 then came a35/57/65/77

Why hurt? A33/55 were entry-level models and like all manufacturers the entry-level gets refreshed very quickly. Look at how long the a77 took - A700 users have been waiting ages.

On commitment to roadmap, only time will tell.

yeah, same thing people have been screaming about for 5-6 years and yet sony has stuck to their word and support for A-mount and now also created E-mount.

If u r sony mgmt, would u choose passion or sales numbers? As a customer, if u pre ordered a99, and to see the drop over 2 mths, would u feel good cos u know all along it could hv been lower?

No matter what brand, C, N, Sony, sales numbers and profit are always important.

As for the pre-order cost, anybody with basic common sense will know price will always drop so why feel sad? Only a fool will think "oh no, if only I had waited it would be lower" because everyone knows that prices always will drop. For a pro, the price drop is irrelevant as it gave them 2 extra months to use the new tools.

Hey Rashkae bro, not stirring anything here. I should clarify the following

- on facts. in terms of development timeline and facts i cant compare to u gurus here.No sales pitch, feature list will help if they dun apply to u. I am like in a relationship that loves my partner with a few gripes.

I don't get your points.
Of course you can always improve a product. Do you propose companies should wait until they have the ultimate camera which cannot get improved anymore? In that case we would have no cameras to work with at all. According to your logic any camera is a beta model coz e.g. no camera gets the WB always right, just look at the D800/E. However, why did you get hurt when Sony released new cameras? o_O I think you're a bit too sensitive, mate.
Obviously the price is lower now. That has been the case with every camera and the more expensive a camera is the steeper the price falls.

Should a Pdt be mktg led or engineering led? Think delay of white ip4.

Waiting for a perfect model is impossible and impractical

Neither, it's led by a product development team who evaluate cost vs profits and features vs costs.

And now you want to drag the iPhone into this? You're just grasping at random examples trying to find something that might vaguely fit? fyi, apple knew the iphone4 would sell well, regardless of white or black model. In fact, by delaying the white model, they probably sold more units than they would have releasing both at the same time.

Hmmm, will keep my simpleton comments to myself. Only Steve know the true intention. God bless his soul. It will be nice to hv a Pdt team tat vehemently fights for the rights of their fans or their beliefs. It's sorely lacking these days.

The reason was that there was too much light leakage into the camera when the led flash was on. So it's Steve and everyone who read the report.

Any product team already has customer advocates. But rabid fanaticism will not force a company to worknon products that will only lead to a loss. That's called bad business.

By your logic, Sony would have to release a full frame camera that uses an ovf, has full-frame pdaf coverage, etc, and sell it for $100.

What "rights" do you think a fan has? What "belief" should be obeyed even if it causes the ruin and downfall of the company?

Is tat what the fans are saying? Assuming a poll was done, does Sony hv a wing tat listens and addresses those feedback?

beliefs and practicality and p&l its not an easy balance. Let the sales figure decide

They have many ways of gathering feedback, and a large social media team that trawls forums looking for feedback, feature wishlists, etc.

However, 99% of the "wishlist" is usually in the realm of fantasy or not financially feasible.

All I want to say is the first doubts about Sony started in 2006. Today we are at the close of 2012, till there are doubts on Sony commitment to digital imaging.

How much was A33/55 when it launched ? I had an a33 too. It's a great camera , value for money but far from perfect. I now have the a99 , it's a great tool for me. Is it perfect ? No it isn't . But hell, there will never be one. Awb, af will always be better.

So why don't we enjoy our photo shooting gear instead of lamenting not having the ultimate Camera on hand ?

Actually I do enjoy my a77. No doubts bout it. Not so much of lamenting. After letting my almost a yr old a33 and a55 at 300 and 400 respectively, realize the pace at which Sony rolls out new cam makes me more wary of my purchases.

There is no perfect camera. The only perfect camera is our pairs of eyes and it's free! Though mine are no longer perfect and plague with 'front focusing' (myopia) issues.

Amazing price, $5 cheaper than in store. :P

There are always many reasons to sell a camera. People sell because they dont like it , or they bought it for fun, or they plan to get something else. One man's meat is another man's poison.

A99 DxOMark Sensor Score.

Everything looks good, especially the low-light ISO.

Sometimes im wondering. The DXOmark low light result number (1555 for A99..)..is tested from Base ISO to MAX ISO? Or start from certain ISO say..1600 or 3200 or 6400.

Dxo measurements is technical in a sense that may not reflect actual real world usage. The low iso scores as explained by others are attributed to the loss in light from the on sensor pdaf sensors and the translucent mirror.

Those that has the a99 would know that the iso performance is not that far off from the other full frames as indicated in the comparison.
