A55 availability status

Will go for canon 550D I think is better and cheaper lens.:dunno:

Your choice, your money.

I have came from D90 and 550D and frankly speaking, A33/55 wins in terms features as well as usable video. IQ is about the same for all.

Lens price I am not too sure which lens you comparing with.

Maybe he means more cheap lens choices....

to me IBIS is important and having IBIS is very good... Lens with IS is more expenssive than non-IS version... and for non IBIS and lens w/o IS your shutter cannot be lower than your lens focal length... e.g. if you have 50mm your shutter should not go below it else your photos are prone to shake while those is IS/IBIS could go 20% -30% lower so your 50mm if you have IBIS you can maybe shoot like shutter spped at 1/30 if very steady hands can even go 1/20

:dunno:

on $ONY webby, it is either :
1)body only
2)body + 2 lense

right?

isn't it $100 for 2 lenses?
Sony Bishan quoted $1349 for body+ 18-55 kit lens today..But they have only body at the moment. They can arrange the kit lens if customer needed.

Our favourite retail shops selling at least $100-120 cheaper than Sonystyle and with 8GB card and Bag.

Sonystyle told me not even a single freebie and still must pay RRP...:dunno:

cheaper lens????

Sony lens are generally abit cheaper than similar lens from Canon, with only the 50mm f1.8 as an exception. But its only 1 lens that Sony sells more expensive, the rest Sony generally sells cheaper.

Not forgetting Sony Alphas can use Minolta lens, which is even cheaper~

And when u compare 3rd party lenses, then u will realised the difference.

Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 with image stabalization for Canon and Nikon cost $950.

Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 for Sony mount is $630, and it has stabalization too due to Sony Alpha.

So just a simple lens comparison, and u will realise that Sony lens and 3rd party lens will be cheaper than Canon and Nikon.

Love to hear that. Ha Ha!

Bought my A55 today!

Pretty fun, but the layout of the buttons feels really dumbed down compared to the A900.

Likes:
Digital Gauge
Movie Mode
Flip LCD, now I can use it like a Medium Format
EVF is very bright even in dark situations:thumbsup:
Manual focus in Magnification Mode!:thumbsup:

Hates:
What HAPPENED TO Dynamic Manual Focus?!!!
Can someone please tell me i somehow misread the manual and this most useful function somehow exists in the SLT?!! :o

Is the a55 + 18250 already here ? I think it is around $15XX. A real bargain !

I think the Focus Magnifier functions is the new DMF (Direct Manual Focus) in 3 step advantage with 1x, 7x and 14x zoom range.

I also find this a very good feature. Like your A900, my A700 does have the DMF switch but after playing with the A33 I guess the Focus Magnifier feature works better for me as my eyesight getting blurred-vision through the years, you know what I mean:bigeyes:.

we are on the same boat bro... refine focusing via magnification is really good specially for portraits/macro shot you want those to be really sharp:thumbsup:

My main worries is the slt mirror,is not easy to maintain unlike the flip up mirror can easily blow the dust away.Lastly this cam is not cheap.

I was playing around with the A55 last night when my old man (70+) came to have a look.
He immediately commented "Why the viewfinder so grainy one?", I realised he was pointing the camera at the totally dark living room and the A55 EVF shows a well lit abeit 'noisy' image. He went and took out his Canon dslr to show off how good it is ...and then spent 10 mins trying to focus in the darkness.:dunno: ...the A55 AF speed of the same darkness was unbelievably fast and easy!

Morale of the story: ...It's easy to criticise the EVF compared to OVF until you put the 2 together and realise sometimes you either get the photo with a noisy EVF or you don't with a superior OVF.

Morale of the story part 2: ...Never play with your son's toys ! they may just prove to be poisonous. ...Yes, now he wants one too ! :bsmilie:

Is the Canon 550D at $1449 RRP cheap? To me it's affordable but you might want look at Sony lower-end DSLR A230 at $649 RRP.

That is cheap for you I guess .

But I'm not buying a Canon anytime soon as I'm happy with my A-mount system.

A33 is anytime better than 550D and it is at least 200-300 cheaper.

I am not sure how your "not cheap" came from.

As compared to....? Please list another SGD 1200-1500 camera that has fast AF in liveview and video, great high ISO, a flip-out LCD, hand-held HDR, sweep pano, twilight mode and 10 FPS.

Guys,

Would appreciate if someone posts what are the freebies bundled with A55? I'm interested in getting A55 finally. ;)
