50mm f1.8
only thing is if it can be priced like Canon one at abt $120 only for a brand new.

wow, cheaper than 2nd hand Km 50 F1.7, would expect the quality be good.

Nikon 50 F1.8 250$
Canon 50 F1.8 120$

any one know y there is such difference? I only knew the weight of Nikon 5018 is twice of canon's/

Since it's selling at USD150, so it should be around $299 RRP in Singapore Sonystyle.

Probably street price would be $250 or less.

Of course depending on Yen fluctuation...

the new kit lens seems to have less of the CA issue, and it looks sharper. Good news. :sweatsm:

Yes, I hope they did the same treatment to 55-200 as well.

Any comparison of 50mm/1.7 and 50mm/1.8 in terms of sharpness, bokeh, etc? Is 5018 better than 5017?

My friend said my 5017 is better than his 5018 on Nikon D80.;)

Haha, who know Sony gave the pre production unit to the reviewer to review:)

But from the aperture no, 1.7 should be faster/brighter than 1.8, IMHO.

V

haha how to compare.
its still not selling yet.
;)

dunno if the new Sony 50 f1.8 got any improvement changes done to it
if have its worth to buy provided the price is near Canon 50 f1.8 price.

What is Canon's price for 50/1.8?

So, want to sell your 50/1.7 if Sony sell 50/1.8 at Canon's price?:P

In my opinin, 85 F1.8 will be more popular, as most people already has KM 5017 or Sony 5014, it is quite affordable.
But for portrait lens like 85 or 135 focal lens, the Cz 8514 and KM 8514 all are expensive. and Minolta didn't produce 85 1.8(i checked nikon and canon lens, 85 18 is affordable and have good quality), so 85 1.8 will be more popular than 50 1.8

I won't, as i love my 50 17

Canon used 50 18 is about 120 or less, saw one selling at 90 for his 501.8 :)

Hi Soken, how much is Sony 5014? I believe 5014 is even better than 5018 in terms of aperture number.

kind of expensive.

should be 550 now for brand new and 350+ for a used.

for those who had 50 1.4 and 50 1.7, I don't think they will sell their lens to get 50 F1.8.
Maybe some one want to collect standard lens and they will but it. :D

If Sony has improved on the AF speed/quietness of the 50/1.8 with its in-built AF motor and make the sharpness usable at f1.8, I don't see why people dun buy it...

Esp if it's price reasonably (maybe same or slightly higher than 2nd hand 50/1.7, then it will sell well....although it's using plastic mount...

Because the 50mm f/1.7 is NOT a sony lens. It's a very very old Minolta lens. If people want a brand new portrait lens, the 50mm f/1.8 is a very good option.

I disagree. 85mm on an APS-C cropped body is WAY too "long" especially for the hobby photogs and the moms and dads trying to take a portrait of their baby. They'll want to be able to get close, and not need to stand 3-4 meters away.

On APS-C, 50mm (75mm equiv) is ideal.

Isn't the 50/1.8 a typical DT lens? Ie. the 85 lens is more for high-end, being designed for full frame, and so are the 50/1.7 and 50/1.4 so it seems that Sony is launching a lens that suits APC-S users keeping the pricing lower than any of the other lenses I mentioned here.
