I disagree. 85mm on an APS-C cropped body is WAY too "long" especially for the hobby photogs and the moms and dads trying to take a portrait of their baby. They'll want to be able to get close, and not need to stand 3-4 meters away.
On APS-C, 50mm (75mm equiv) is ideal.
I c. I knew that 50mm is equivalent to 75mm on aps-c.
I thought the best focal length for portrait is 85-135, and 85 is about 130 on aps-c.
I think 85mm is good for both ff and aps-c while 135 on aps-c is a bit too long.
And for the bokeh, I guess 85mm f1.8 should have better bokeh than 50 f1.8 on aps-c.
Just my opinion.
