entry level bodies.. i guess wait for A800..

And while looking at the series being used you might want to wait forever. More likely is the numbering going up in the existing hundred series, Ie. 730 or 750.

Name aside, when? :dunno:

Definitely targeted NOT at upgraders, but at the first-time buyer market. Smart.

besides this.. they had a price hike of 20%++ recently on some existing stuff.. Smarter.

Waiting in line will be A800 N A1000. May be 18 mp. for a800 with video, Or A 1000 with :cool:video;)

Frankly speaking, if they really sell it above the existing price of A200 and A300series, then Sony will be shooting blanks easily for these new series unless if they can price them reasonably. Especially when the new offerings from C&N are quite attractive with better CMOS sensors and video...

Eh. I actually asked some friends of mine who are new to DSLR if they wanted video. Most said yes. But when I asked them if they'd actually use it, they actually said "probably not".

And their girlfriends didn't care; they just wanted a DSLR to be lightweight and "not so scary/big big". So Sony may be onto something.

Most people don't know what they need. Between a DSLR with video and one without, they'll probably pick video capable DSLR. In this world, the best doesnt necessarily win all the time.

One good thing thou, till now, Sony pricing for bodies is always competitive.

If they price it near to the C&N counterparts coupled with an easy to use interface it'll be an attractive alternative for those who are still new into photography & prefers the camera to tune the settings.

Some of the other competitor's system may have video but what's the use when you can't even AF during recording??

i agree. this is a valid concern when the decision point takes into account opinion of significant other(s)..

having a compact sized DSLR pleases both parties.
:)

Maybe one day they will make a DSLR cum Videocam cum MP3 player cum Handphone. That way the photographer can double as a videographer, listen to his music while shooting a wedding and answer calls from the bride or bridegroom.

Let a DSLR be a DSLR and a videocam be a videocam.

I'm still so sad that my A900 doesn't have a built-in PSP. Why Sony, whyyyyyyy???

Seems like you guys didn't get my message. Sometimes gimmicks do help in sale. Good products aren't enough, you need good ones that sell.

Noone would give a damn about that best-SLR-ever-made Dynax 9 while all focus was on digital. Hope Sony won't make the mistakes Minolta did.

Agree with bro Titan10k!!!

Please throw away all the traditional mindset and brace yourself for this new digital world and the word for it is "convergence".

If iphone have a version that does not have wifi/cam, which would you buy if both are almost the same price...people may argue saying seldom use the cam/wifi but in the end I forsee people still end up with the one with them.

Nowadays, either you follow the trend or be prepared to be left out and close shop later...it's no longer the good old times where you come out with a good product and can relax for many years with it.

Video or not is not what you want or not, it's the demand by the consumers that create this new feature into these DSLRs, much like Liveview, Image Stabiliser, Sensor Cleaning, weather-proofing body, etc which will not improve the quality of the pictures but has more or less become the de-facto features due mainly to requests by consumers.

A product does not sell well with good primary features alone and it must be accompanied by the features that are demanded or already in placed by your competitors so as to stay "current".

To be realistic, it's the consumer grade products that will rake in the highest revenue/profits for the company, not the highest end products. You can recognise how often a A700/A900 is sold as compared to the lower end ones.

So the equation is like this.

More consumer products sold = More revenue/profits = More happy smiles on shareholders = More budget allocated for R&D = More new/better products in the mid/high-end products for the professionals like you.

Not so interested...same old spec with new menu interface.

Yes, it's just a face-lift with software changes. Hopefully they have new firmware to improve the noise control.

Heard it's using a new battery which is a bad thing.

Hope they can release a firmware for A200/A300/A350 with the same UI:)
If they really change the battery as well then well too bad, can't share battery with each other anymore..

still waiting for a firmware to improve my A200 more.
Like faster AF, better ISO performance, faster write speeds
;)
