7D or 5D Mark II?

i hv a 450D+ 18-200mm took photos with it for few years.. then recently bought 7D then bought the 24-105mm and then 70-200mm f4 IS, then found out that there were lots of AF issues, and pics are soft.., my fren bought a 7D too and unfortunately returned it back twice and finally he gotten himself a 5DMKII.
Thing gotten worst...My 7D was also producing soft pics too. So i returned and paid for a 5DMKII within a week... hence now i'm a happy and a proud owner of this great FF camera.... so do u want to take the risk to go thru this path...or jump straight to 5DMKII... your choice...if you just type "7D AF issues" on any of the search engine online, u will see tons of threads on this problematic 7D... no offence to 7D owners... i been thru it, returned a 7D........maybe i'm the unlucky one who hv gotten a bad 7D...oh...same goes to my fren 2x7D...... and more on the net...every photography forums have all at least 3-4 current threads in their Canon category.

You mentioned that you returned the 7D??? You mean to say the shop allowed you to return the 7D and let you buy the 5DMKII.
Actually I am comtemplating whether to upgrade my current 350D to 7D or 5DMkII now. But from the recent review on the 7D, I have the sense that the camera is not up to the expectation due to the AF issues. To buy a 5DMkII, it will definitely cost me a bomb but I will have a FF camera and better noise management. On 2nd thought, I can save a lot if I buy a 7D. Can use the saved money to buy better lens. So can anyone advise me?

for myself i will choose the 7D over the 5D2.
AF issues will definitely be fixed in the future. like windows xp is **** but SP2 fixed everything.
Why i will choose 7D over the 5D2 is that i need the far superior AF (almost similar to a 1series AF) and wireless commander ability (present in nikon long ago). ISO performance wise. 5D2 is still superior but i (think) can live with using 2500ISO rather than 3200ISO.

If you don't know whether to get a 7D or a 5D2 then you should just stick to your 350D which is also a good camera. If you don't feel a great need for FF then crop cameras will save you alot of money. If you don't need such high MP then the 350D is quite adequate. Spend you money on lenses first.

What's wrong? I just got a 7D and there was a customer who complained abt the AF issues that 7D had but all was resolved only after finding out it is the setting issues.

so u mean that the problems of people who posted here were just hear says? And they don't know how to play with their cameras?
There are some issues, you lucky that your not experiencing it right now. Anyway, I do agree that it will be fixed sometime soon, well some people like me where not patient enough to wait. Imagine buying a 2,xxx camera and bringing them to the CSC after days of purchase, and again, then again and in the end you still have to wait for the next firmware upgrade. Also, as explained by others here, it really depends on your preference.
For me, as long as your happy with your purchase, then you made the right decision... For now, I still save some more to get the 5DMII

The difference is only $1K, and what you shoot more will be the deciding factor. If sports, nature and wildlife than is 7D, portraitures and landscape is 5DMk2.
The 7D's advantage is, it can be use for all genre and its shortcomings can be overcome by the choice of lenses, whereas the 5DMk2 is more restricted but does not mean it will not do the job and the IQ is definitely better because it is FF.
But if you are into general photography than 7D will make more sense and the saving can go for lenses.
I have both the 7D and the 5Dmk2 and even a 1Dmk3, and I use different cameras for different genre.
I tend to use the 7D more often since I can use it to shot wildlife, portraitures and landscape without sacrificing between speed and IQ. I only use my 5Dmk2 with I am strictly shooting portraiture and my 1Dmk3 when I am shoot wildlife and will also use the 7D when I need the additional focal length when shooting birds.
That said, I would go for 7D if I one have one choice.
The hype over the AF issue on the 7D is over exaggerated, most of the time is the user, some of the AF issue can be resolve by merely adjusting the micro adjustment because of front and back focus rather than faulty AF, yes there are bad copies but not all that is reported are actual equipment problem. It took me one month of testing and 4000 shots to finally finds out my 500mm + 1.4 TC lens back focus on my 7D but not on the 1Dmk3, but my 300mm + 2x TC do not have such problem on both cameras.

no doubt 5DII has great IQ. if i have to choose 7D or 5DII i will first look at my lens collection. if i have a bunch of great efs lenses like 10-22, 17-55 i will hesitate going FF. i think ultimately its up to TS on what he wants to shoot. there was this guy i met at john316 who downgraded from 5D to 7D because he shoots wildlife, birds etc. 7D's IQ is great too, it's made for people like him too. TS, this is something only you will know your own needs best.
First off sorry for digging this old thread up. I was wondering how come nobody speaks of DOF comparison when using 1.6 or full frame.
i was thinking to use 1.4 aperture on 5D mk2 means the dof may be too thin for certain shots. Thus we lose light be moving aperture up to gain the dof.
However if we're to use 7D with 1.4 aperture we actually gain a dof advantage at that same given light.
i've been thinking about this too. on FF at f/2...50mm has a very thin DOP...as opposed to the f/2 on a crop body...i cld do a proper action shot in the night where the whole body was captured in focus. but on a 5D?? oh well, whatever it is someday...i will go FF! :think:
