I don't know about Alex and Joho, but to me, the uncropped field of view made a world of difference on how I use my lenses.

Since you ask the question on whether FF is necessary, allow me to ask you --- would you be the the first to run out and grab low priced 5Ds when the 7D/1DsMk3 come out? :bsmilie:

Bro, agreed with you. Using FF reminds me the years of using films. It really brings out the lens quality, or something which you really miss out when using crop factor cams. :)

Didn't know that you are strong supporter of FF. :bsmilie: On other camps, many have argued before that FF is no necessary. So your statement further illustrates the call for FF.

the technology of sensor is still a long way to go for the next few year in term of development.

But now Canon FF is the only one that can prove to the world that in term of noise reduction effectiveness that is the direction to go.

Amen, brothers! Let's not get short changed with cropped views on our expensive L lenses, see it to the max!! ;)

That said, I have a rather bad feeling that the next incarnation of the 5D, will not be a 7D, or even a 3D. More in the lines of a 5D Mark II, with some enhancements like Digic3, 5fps, and sensor cleaning (yawwwnnn). I suspect it will still be a 12.8mp sensor, still with the center-cluttered AF points, still with the 30D user interface, and still no weather sealing whatsoever.

Maybe one minor possibility is the inclusion of a 3 inch LCD screen. Something like what Canon did with the 20D to 30D "enhancements".

So folks, don't hold your breath for a new whiz-bang 5D successor that will blow your socks off. If you want the joy of using your EF lenses to its full, go grab a 5D today!

New kids on the block. ;p

7D and 1Ds mk III will be out soon. It is either this year Sept or early next year.

7D will be a replacement model for 5D, with higher mp, and some minor ugrades from 5D.

As for the 1Ds mk III, it has already been a topic. 1-series FF replacing 1Ds mk II. It will have 22mp and almost all the features/functions inherited from the new 1D mk III except 10fps.

Disclaimer : Take it with a pinch of salt. :)
7D released, price range: Apprx $5K
5D price drop: Apprx $3K

If it hits the above scenario, u'll see me at the next Canongrapher's meeting. :bsmilie:
or better till
used 5D price s$1.5-2k;p

Have the same thought, so bought my 5D last weekend :).

Hi bro... What do you mean when you said "brings out the lens quality"? Why would you want to do that? Isn't it better to have sharper images? FF cams bring out the flaws of your lenses, even if they are good, especially at the edges. I thought using non-FF bodies would be better in such instances?

I also don't understand why people say FF is great cos they don't have to worry about the lenses they use. In the past, when Canon had the D30, D60 and 10D, I would agree that the 1.6x crop was a pain. There wasn't any suitable lenses I could consider for getting wide angle shots. The 17-35mm f/2.8 was too expensive for me. Then later they came out with the 17-40mm f/4 which rockz and suddenly amateurs were all happy. At 27mm wide, I think that solves most of my wide angle shots. A little later, they came out with the 10-22 EF-S which is heaven! Followed by the 17-55 EF-S. So I don't miss anything. I can get to shoot anything I want with any lenses.

The only problem I see that exists in some people's shooting is they insist on wanting L lenses and large apertures. Then maybe FF is a necessity.

About the only 2 advantages I see for FF myself is the bigger viewfinder and shallower DOF you can get compared with non-FF bodies. But I can forego these, given that the price of 1.6x crop bodies is still way cheaper than a 5D. The lower noise levels is great too. But then again, the noise levels even in Canon's low to mid ranged DSLRs rockz already.

I love the fake magnification I get with my 20D. With a 50mm f/1.4, the lens becomes like an 80mm f/1.4 on FF, and with a 200mm f/4, the lens functions like a 320mm f/4! What more can I ask?! And of cos the edge to edge sharpness I can get.

Hahaha..how true..so many of the bros here using expensive L lenses...on 1.6x crop sensor bodies...so much of the 'prime' glass outside the sensor crop area being wasted... L lenses designed to be sharp from edge to edge of the full frame 135 format.

Bro, enjoy the description you made and agreed on certain points. Use or not using FF, depends on the users preference.

As mentioned in my comments, FF reminds me on the days when I am using film. I felt a sense of familiarity when using FF, this time is big sensor, not film. :bsmilie:. Of course, the "quality" means the resolution and contrast the lens can produce, which my preference the background creamier the better. This is one important factor which I will consider when buying the lens.

Most important of all, just be happy to the equipment and use with no regrets. Cheers! :)

Thought it suppose to be 3D or 5D mk2...7D sound like lower grade...
