if there is a 5D replacement.. that means the 5D will drop in price.. and i will be able to buy 1 of those then..

1dmk3 is totally out of my league even though it is so impressive... :sticktong
it already drop at HK and Japan...maybe we can start MO a set for each of us. For those CSers or their spouse is Air stewards/sterwardess can get it anytime...buy it...test/use it...sell it... still earn some profit. :)

Then in that case you better wait for the 5D replacement, it should include dust buster. And possibly 14bit RAW and highlight priority... excellent for bridal gowns details.
agreed...

after going through all the posts... I'm thinking better let the dust settle down first. It might be setting issue, but juz wan to make sure.

On the other hand I'm not really selling my BIF pics, so it might not matter too much. Juz dun wan a situation where it's really a cam prob.
think is might be the real issue for mk3 as they r the 1dmk2 and mk2n users which don't face the same problem with their old cams when using with 500mm or 600mm lenses to do BIF

...it might be one of the reason why Canon delay their launch till now...even selling the 1st batch of mk3(only a few sets) like trying to delay more time to solve this issue...hopefully those early bird user don't do/depend BIF a lot...

The last few posts by LesZ in that forum seems to indicate it might be user's unfamiliarity with the new AF algorithm. :dunno:

Somewhere was also a link mentioning that it's because the AF are more customisable so users have to use different settings for different situations. However IMHO it feels counter intuitive if the cam can't handle a broad range of situations and requires frequent changes in setting. Better cams should be able to handle more situations unassisted, so that it can relief the photographer to concentrate in getting the pics.

Sorry bro, no prior experience with Mk3 so far, this coming Sunday will be the first time. But have used Mk2 before for BIF, I think BIF is one of the toughest things to test the AI servo focus of the camera with, I don't wanna go into detail, but generally most Canon cams including 1 series track a moving bird against blue skies pretty well, but against stuff like water or greenery the focus will sometimes get thrown off momentarily (i.e. focus on bg). This is using central AF pt with the AF pt expansion. So far have not tried BIF using the "Ring of Fire" yet. But generally speaking, 1 series bodies do track BIF much better than their xxD or xxxD counterparts.
maybe tomorrow afternoon can go there try out the demo set to do BIF...maybe more like MIS(Man in Ski)...:D

Don't worry about brain rusty... we all study after 2.5 years NS... more matured.. will be better than the gals.. :bsmilie: now memory card so cheap.. can add more brain power easily :bsmilie:

Er Bro, had been hearing bad news from oversea forum for the past days regarding the MK3 AF points while taking BIF. You may like to re-search.

Of course, I will like to purchase a set if have stock despite of the issue.
:)

Tried the 1D3 todae at ECP... seems like user issue to me. Cuz when you use the "Ring-of-fire" the focus does jump around to fore/back ground due to complicated scene contrast. However when select only the center point, AF always on subject... provided you dun let subject stray from center AF point, else sure jump one.

However, I noticed that to reacquire subject focus, I need to release the AF button first, position subject within AF then carry on. :dunno: Anyone experienced similar situation.

It seems to me, we need to master the power of the MK3. :bsmilie:
