5D2: whats the problem? why many waiting 5D3?

For mature products, I do not mind buying one generation behind, e.g. cars.

However, for developing products, I prefer to buy the latest version, which hopefully will address the flaws in the previous versions.

For a $3,000+ product, I would decide carefully. Given a choice between a 5D2, and 5D3 at the same or slightly higher cost but having to wait 6 months, I would choose the 5D3.

Furthermore, for technology stuff I always go for version 3 (remember Word Perfect 3.0, Windows 3.1, etc?). Oh, wait... 1DMk3 is not such a good choice, eh?

If 5D Mark III was only a few months away and you could afford to wait, why not.

But no one even knows that. It could be over a year away and everyone would be none the wiser.

Keep waiting!

I still using my 5D (Old Version) and a EOS3.. I find that the focusing on my EOS3 way faster then my EOS5D... but I not a sport shooter... and I think I don't need to spent extra few thousand bucks just to get an upgrade... furthermore I comfortable with the 12 Mp file size... 21Mp is way too large for me and I don't crop my image that much...

I have the EOS3 Film slr. And i agree... faster af , more decisive. The tracking is pretty decent too. I wish this would come out :D

I am using 5DII and had lots of complain about it: The IQ is too high, build is too good, Video quality is too good, the high ISO performance is so damn good... What else did I missed ?

Wondering why it's always those people that don't have 5D2 that is complaining about 5D2 ? I agree I would be thrilled to have 1D4 AF on 5D, but I wonder if any of those complaining really mis the shot due to their technique, rather then equipment ? I think 5D2 capability is beyond 90% of the DSLR owners skill today, so find better reasons for not upgrading instead of complaining about capabilities you had not even tested or verified.

Just to share, I had always the late adopter kind in the past, buying the previous generation second hand when the new model comes out. However, I decided to get the 5DII when it first came out, because I know I would have to wait at least 3-4 years for the 5D3 to be out. And it tick all the boxes for me, and will serve me well for 5 years at least. Frankly, I think 5D3 will not likely to be available till 2012, wait on guys....

Yeah cos I just need a FF DSLR so 5D is gd enough up to now. :)

OT: I remember you got the 5D 'cos you wanted to use the ultrawide Sigma 12-24 on it. Now that Sigma is coming up with the 8-16, what are your thoughts? :bsmilie:

From 5D to 5D MkII... it took 3 years. i dun think 5DMKIII or whatever that will replace 5DMKII will take more than that..

Further more as competition heats up frm Nikon and Sony, Canon cannot afford to put the product on for 3-4 yrs like they used to.
MKII was out 1.5 yrs ago, i am betting it will be out next yr on 2.5 yr cycle. And at worst Sep next yr. :D

I think Canon will wait for the Nikon D700's replacement to decide on the 5D3's release..

I waited so long for 5D2 that I thought it was 4-5 years cycle, but you're right, It took about 3 years from 5D-5D2, my bad. So, with the firmware upgrade, looks like Canon has intention to treat it as mid-life face lift... So, 2011 is the likely time then. Even then it's a long time to not enjoy such a good camera.

I think one good hint is to see when the dark side releases the next camera. Canon will prep to counter it just as in the case of 5DMkII over D700.

Sept 2011 is a good 1.5 years from now. Sure you want to wait so long? The world is suppose to end in 2012, isn't it? :)

Anyway, what features came out after the launched of MkII? AMOLED, zonal focusing system, usable ISO 6400. What else?

sure...more than sure... :bsmilie:
my 40D came with 3yr extended warranty... serves me well...
i hope its sooner than Sep 2011 ;p

I hope the 5Dmk3 comes out soon. and all the mk2 users will sell Their loved mk2 cheap!

I don't care whether mk3 can expand up to ISO25600 or ISO16.7million..
Or whether it's resolution can goes up to 50 megapixels..
Or whether it have 88 AF points..
All I wish is that the next cam can spread out the existing 9 auto focusing points pleaseeee...
They are way too cramp towards the centre of the frame now..

My question is: which will come first - 5D Mk3, or the second batch of 1D Mk4?

Come on get the camera that you need. You don't need to gt the latest camear. Why don't wait for 5dMK 10? it will becoming out too. A good photographer will make the gears good. Not the Gears you are using will make your shots look good. No hard feelings for those that says that 5d2 is not woderful as in the AF. Every camera has its pros and cons. 1dsMK3? Is that very good? i do not think is 100% good. For me i am 100% sastify with my kit now. I feel that what i need now is just upgrade of lenses. For those people that are waiting for 5dmk3 Good luck because you had waste a lot of shooting opportunities using FX.
Happy Waiting.

I think main reason is the pain to throw away a good camera just to upgrade. Generally, 50D is a good camera. It has a better shutter burst than 5D2. Most users for that range typically is happy with their setup; unless the next to be out model or MK combines the essence of both 7D and 5D. Just gut feeling this might come.

Read somewhere that Sony is going for 3-Dimension technology ie more realistic shots. OMG...that will be wonderful if Canon is doing a race ahead. I am sure almost all of the camera manufacturers have a good idea of their competitor's technology just that they are tied to their ongoing marketing strategies.

Let's wait and see....

i'm waiting for the model that will sit down and listen to my requirements,

"hey i need some clip art of Mt Everest during the climbing season; show a line of climbers like ants crawling up a kitchen wall of sorts..."

and it will respond,

"you got it!"

and head towards the Himalayas and snaps the exact pictures that will inspire me.

That will be the day.... i'm saving up for it. It's good to be a photographer.
