.. Facts can be so misleading, where rumors, true or false, are often revealing ..

FakeChuckWestfall had some hilarious posts about D800 in The Nikon D800: Less than meets the eye & Nikon D800 VS Canon EOS 1DX Image Quality

"Let me first begin by apologizing to all the people who have switched to the Nikon D700 in the last few years because of my recommendations. Really, honestly, I sincerely apologize. I truly feel bad about this, because you guys are ****ed now.

WHAT was Nikon thinking?? Jesus Christ. What kind of an upgrade is this? Is this really supposed to be an upgrade to the D700?? It’s gotta be, because apparently the D700 is now discontinued. Was Nikon even paying attention to what I was writing about on my blog and all the complaints we were getting here at Canon about the megapixels? Did they ****ing consult with The Lord of Speedlights about this? Didn’t Nikon get the megapixel memo??"

Take note I did say hilarious.. so take them with a handful of salt...

:Later,

A little comfort for canon users bef the rumoured 5d3 is announced officially to mixed feelings.

Honestly, I don't see what the great excitement around the D800 is about. Essentially the D800 looks very much like a D700 with a high mpx sensor. Sure there are some tweaks here and there but if one takes out the sensor, I don't see what so different with the D700... Oh yes, and they added video finally. I went through the 'new technologies' section of the dpreview D800 preview and did not see anything impressive.

This in fact made me more anxious to see what Canon have up their sleeves.

Canon have been known to really disrupt the market with their innovations. They are capable of thinking outside the box.... They did it with the first CMOS dlsr sensor, the 300D (first consumer mass market dlsr), 5D (first full frame dslr) and just a few weeks back, the G1x (first compact camera with a large sensor and a zoom lens). In fact, when the G1x was leaked, people couldn't believe it was using a 1.5" sensor and thought it was a typo for a 2/3" sensor.

The 5D3 or 5Dx is already almost 6 months late, like the G1x which was a few months late, I suspect Canon is working on something disruptive again. Something no one expected, as usual. My guess it that Canon may be working on a foveon like sensor :) Look they've already done it for the C300 video camera. It is using an 8mpx multi layered rgb sensor. It makes sense to expect that their video focused dslr like the 5D3 should follow the same path, don't you think?

There has been rumors saying that the 5Dx has a 21-22mpx sensor can scale up very well to 40mpx or down to 4k video, etc.... I was thinking it could be a multi layered foveon like sensor.... Remember that while Sigma claims x3 resolution gain, tests show it is closer to x2 (due to the green pixels which determines resolution making up 50% of total pixel count ). So a 21mpx multi layered sensor gives about 40mpx Bayer equivalent resolution.

This should satisfy the 2 conflicting rumors saying 21mpx and 40mpx at the same time.

Here is the true strength of Canon, they have the sensor technology. Anytime they want a 1.5" sensor, they got it. Anytime they want a foveon like sensor, they can get it.

Today, the rumor mills says that Canon will be releasing a record number of lenses this year. So if there is any shortcoming in your Canon lenses, there is hope yet.

Well said.

Although i dont intend to upgrade my camera or lens but i am happy that Canon is still trying to improve on their product line. Lets just hope its worth upgrading for those who are waiting...

That is something interesting
I do think the 5DMK3 will be high MP.. coz they've been updating their lens lineup lately...

But personally, i'm happy with my current 21MP. :)

Hahaha, the article is really funny. LMAO

Blog - Cliff Mautner Photography

From the post dated 6th Feb:
"Some of the more interesting technology introduced in this camera is the face recognition for auto exposure. The idea here is that the 3D color matrix meter III uses the face recognition information and exposes for the face- rather than the other elements in the frame. This is a real advantage in backlit situations."

It's not just megapixels for this camera. I'd probably find this function useful when shooting portraits outdoors.

Have you ever tried AF with all the 51 points enabled ? The experience is not something as 'awesome' as it sounds on paper though ...

haha, i definitely agree with you here... 51pts is seriously a challenge for people that doesnt know how to exploit its advantage...

you sound like one hell of a canon fan and anti-nikon...

actually. excited abt the sensor and digic 5 combination , cause as shown in the S100, the Digic 5 is pretty amazing in its own right regarding noise control

We talk until cow come home, scully all Canon does in 2012 is intro a new 650D n update lens only :p

That said, I did noticed that for the first time, you can find 5DII under "promotion" tab in canon website. Guess that may point to something........

Not an attractive promotion IMO, I mean if their kit set with the 24-105L can be complimented with a choice of the following popular lens as a purchase-with-purchase would be a better one:

16-35 L
17-40 L
50 L
70-200 f/2.8 L IS
70-200 f/4 L IS

I think that sounds better. Afterall, 5D Mark II is a prosumer camera and some professionals have it as a spare. The kit already comes with a great 24-105L. Why not make it better :bsmilie:

Maybe Canon and Nikon are own by same group of people. Now they pump Nikon so that people feel Nikon is better spec, making people jump ship, after a while they pump back Canon to over power Nikon, then people jump again, business & profit...

Good point of view. Like the way u think and so did I.

Why are your comparing a imaginary + fantasy model with a actual announced model? ......

He may be pro-canon but I didn't feel that he is anti-nikon..

read the 1st paragraph. Millions have commented on what a great job Nikon did, he sounds like a sour grape.. but anyway, everybody is entitled to their views.

D3 Multi-CAM3500FX Auto Focus sensor
D700 Multi-CAM3500FX Auto Focus sensor
D300 Multi-CAM3500DX Auto Focus sensor

All has the same 51-point, 15 cross-type

The Basic specs may appear the same BUT operational speed and finese are worlds apart. Its largely for to do with the fact that with increasing models battery power is more powerful thus there is more "lens focusing torque". This is about the speed at which the camera can "grab a frame and focus". Even between the D700 and D3, there is a very noticeable difference.

Really dont see the reason why one need to compare and later got heated argument..... Just look at it as a camera and comment base on why it is good, should be better in what way blah blah.... Each will have its pro and cons.... Btw, the so call 5DMKIII not even out, hell its not even 100% its goin to be name as 5DMKIII.... Let canon launch and let them worried about the competitor... Not u.... The way it is going, more competition, usually better products.... That can only be good for consumer.... But not so good for wallet lar...
