5D MKiii [rumored] vs D800 / E

We are in this forum probably because we are Canon shooters. I don't think we should be afraid to criticize Canon when they are falling behind. If all Canon hear and see are satisfied customers then they won't improve their products.

Nah criticize by all means I do it all the time when I meet up with fellow photographer friends.

But at the end of the day what really matters to me as a Canon EOS user is that I can operate the camera smoothly and instinctively as the layout is second nature to me and the EOS system (even with its less than perfect UWAs) have been able to deliver where it matters most.

There's always room for improvement and its good that the competition has set down a solid marker now. Cuz you'll know that when Canon next makes an announcement it will set the marker even further. In between that just enjoy your photography :)

I doubt they will see these criticisms.

Skip Canon and Nikon. iPhone...

Must at least wait for Canon to announce the 5D3 first lah.

Keeping finger crossed for a 40mp 5d3, lol.

For my landscape shoots, if Canon fails to catch up to the D800E with the 5D3, I am SERIOUSLY considering getting the D800E + the 14-24 f/2.8. Even if it means learning an entire new system. I am just fed up with Canon. They failed to deliver an ultra wide zoom anywhere close to the legendary Nikkor 14-24. Then they did it with the 70-200 II. I cough up the dough for it because it is excellent. Now they want to release the 24-70 II at almost the same price as the 70-200 II but with no IS! Utterly disappointing! If the 5D3 doesn't have over 30mp and an AF at least as good as the 7D's, then Canon, I am out! I won't cross over to the dark side because I want to, but because Canon forces me out. Shame on you, Canon, for letting your fans down. If a much smaller company like Nikon can deliver what they did over the past few years, there is absolutely NO EXCUSE a behemoth like you, with your vast resources, can't.

Well said... Hope canon executives are listening to this.

There are two things I'll like to see from Canon: improvement in low ISO dynamic range and their 14-24 f/2.8L patent translated into real product.

I just saw the MTF charts for the new 24-70 f/2.8L Mk2. And it looks VERY promising: easily besting Zeiss and Nikkor equivalents. Heard that Canon took a long while to get this one right. If the field performance of this new lens really lives up to the MTF hype, then no one can claim Canon cannot design a decent wide to normal lens. IMO this FF lens is FAR more versatile and important than the rather restrictive 14-24 f/2.8 lens.

Canon is the DSLR leader with the greatest technological advantage but they have decided that it is not in their best interests to always give their best technology. Canon's strategy is to offer incremental (or marginal) improvements sufficient to sell the next model unlike Nikon which is giving everything it can to win back the market share since the days when it claimed all you need is a DX sensor. Canon's strategy has given Nikon a lifeline so there is probably some truth in the conspiracy theories.
This time Nikon has forced the hand of Canon again, and trust me, Canon will respond, just adequately. So we must all thank Nikon for this. Go Nikon Go!

sounds like Apple.

Canon, for 5D3, would also need to keep an eye on the 45MP Sigma SD1 which competes directly in the portrait and landscape arena.

I hope Canon 5D3 do not have 36MP. I rather they focus on the DR and ISO, do away with the AA filter (like D800E). Add features like focus peaking, multiple brackets exposures, WYSIWYG LCD, water-proof up to 40m, and more importantly scale down on the size and weight. I want a portable FF camera with excellent IQ. Not big file size.

Sounds like you need an Olympus. :-)

This camera I believe is not available in Singapore. What's the price? If it is near to new canon camera or D800, I seriously do not think many will consider it.

What are the chances of Canon management hiring someone to read forum?

In fact, really good marketing doesn't pay close attention to what consumer needs. They simply tell consumer what they need and they offer what they tell consumers they need. Example? Apple. How many of the new features of Apple products are indispensible or even "very useful"? People always rave about how useful they are, seriously, i dont even need to sync the stuff on iPhone to my computer. Is it even a necessity?

I dont know if Canon will use such marketing strategy. However I seriously doubt they will read so much of forums. You can test my hypothesis by making your wishes known on this forum. Consumer power remains about majority of the consumer, or in the case of apple, what they dictate consumers need.

At least Canon is kind enough to let us change the battery. Apple is just mercenary.

Apple would have you think and believe this is for ur own good so u dont have to change battery, hence convenient. Unfortunately, fanboys and fangirls will shout hell yeah, i dont have to change battery!

Let's just hope the new 24-70 is the second part of Canon's grand plan to rework its trinity of zooms. Starting with the tele end, the 70-200 II is universally praised. If it takes leaving out IS on the 24-70 II to get the kind of results found in the 70-200 II, so be it. And if Canon finishes the job with an ultra wide that can match the Nikkor 14-24, I would be very happy. Of course, expect to pay over 10k for the trinity of zooms.

The latest rumor is we should expect to see a 40+ MP camera from Canon in 2012. Wow!
