5D II Specs

I'm sure its successor should have several significant improvements over the current 5D.

I wouldn't bet on it though. Canon seems to be run by the spreadsheet these days. As long as the numbers add up, life goes on in Canon land.

I'm not even sure if the terms "leadership", "pride", "innovation", and "vision" mean anything much to them. Or perhaps:

Leadership: "As long as we're making more moolah than others, we lead!"
Innovation: "If we're meeting our numbers, does it matter?"
Pride: "What's that?"
Vision: "Meet the numbers!"

The unfortunate reality (and it applies to either Canon, Nikon, Google or Apple) is that as a public company, they are goverened by profit numbers. This is their responsibility to shareholders.

Innovation and leadership are only means to the ultimate goal. Companies that realize this, and has the resources to pull it off, will prosper. Pride is meaningless when applied to a corporation, only to the people working there. Vision is (pardon my language) management bulls**t.

Well done An drew, you believe in the Canon's philosophy as their spin doctors (or PR agents) would like you to believe in a typical corporate b...s...! The millions spent on employing a good PR agency has not been wasted.

On another note, although I have many tens of thousands of dollars invested in Canon equipment, I am waiting for Canon to announce a model that M US T at least equal the D700 specs (and hopefully more) before the end of this year, failing which I will get myself a D700.

You are only gullible if you think that just because Nikon has some great camera bodies out now, your existing stuff is suddenly crap.

Of course my present equipment is not crap but I've seen what the D3 can do with 6,400 ISO that Canon cannot do. And to me, that was the time I realised how the physical limitations in a camera body can affect your photos or the lost opportunities. If I have the moolah to afford the best in terms of capabilities then why should I not spend the money! And if this has to be Nikon, then Nikon it is!

I have no problem with you or anyone switching to another brand if you believe that system is better for you. I am a strong believer in personal choice, and I would strongly defend your right to make that decision for yourself. I may not agree with your reasons for doing so, but that is a separate matter and should have no part in your decision.

Even if, 3 months or 3 years down the road, if Canon has a better camera body and you decide to switch back, I still would not laugh at / sneer at / insult you. And I would even defend you against people who do so.

I even agree with you that difference in equipment can mean lost opportunities to a certain extent.

My only beef is with fanboy mentality. I've seen it with Microsoft vs. Apple, AMD vs. Intel, Canon vs. Nikon. And I'm not saying you are one - the only post I've read by you in this thread is the previous one in response to An Drew's post, and I totally agree with you in that all that is hogwash and publicity crap that should be ignored. And frankly I'm not sure how seriously to take An Drew in posting that PR piece - I assume he meant it as tongue in cheek.

I certainly meant it as tongue in cheek :embrass:, but at the same time I really hope Canon will give us solid FF cams so that we can unleash the full potential of our Canon lenses without us having to cough out another 10k plus for a 1DsMkX.

I want to believe, Canon's promises to delight its customers as well as its PR crap. :angel:

Sorry if I offend anyone, but I'll like to share my point of view..

I actually think that the Lens are the most impt equipment for photography, if you have invested in good lens and taken great care of them. They will be able to last for ages.

Whereas a camera body wouldn't last you for more than 5 yrs or even 3 yrs. Camera body technology advances too fast when a new model comes out almost every 1 to 2 years.

Hence the value of the camera body depreciates so much. If you are thinking of jumping ship when you see new techonology from a competitor, selling all your Lens/flash/camera body will become a huge loss.

Why not save up all your cash & wait for Canon to make their move? (Cash is King ) Just keep shooting with your existing APS-C/camera. As long as you make photography a enjoyment, who cares what camera you are using?

Don't let getting new camera like changing mobile phones, change new model but the main purpose is still to make phone call/sms.

If you are thinking of jumping ship when you see new techonology from a competitor, selling all your Lens/flash/camera body will become a huge loss.

The best L lens so far in terms of total IQ are the 85L and the 70-200f4 ISL. These 2 lenses are quite new and that partly explains the great IQ. I actually think 5D is a good FF already, jus that it needs the Digi III and better lens.

You're missing out quite a few L glass besides those two that have great edge to edge IQ. However, yes Canon's WA are quite inferior compared to say Nikon's , especially when the corners are concerned. The 16-35 f2.8L (Mk I) is a joke.

The 5D replacement will have Digic IV and not dual Digic III anymore because it need that new processor to drive the video function........opps....not suppose to mention that....

Agree that FF tends to out-resolve many lenses, including L lenses. Agree that 5D is a good FF. Agree that we need Digic III or IV and better lenses too.
