is that somebody's wish list?

Cool down bro, since the annoucement is on 22 April. Let's wait for it. Maybe there is a light within darkness. I had done a goggle search. The whole world is talking about it. Oooooh, one month left. :bsmilie:

No worries bro ;)

I'm just a hard customer to please I guess. It's not uncommon for any company who has the dominant advantage to play the Micro$oft card to its customers. It leaves a bad taste. I'm just glad that dominance is over.

Let's just wait for what Canon has to offer.

well... i did asked about the specs for this 5Dmk2, and well..... i've settled for one 5D and i am happy with it.

this rumoured specs seems to be killing off the 1Dsmk3. so i believe certain functions would not be made available to the replacement.

after a few weeks shooting with 5D, i must say.... its a great camera.... and i still stand by my words as why would there always be a need for the latest, greatest, fastest, biggest ?

why ??

because current equipment cannot fulfill your needs or just a way to show off you have the latest and greatest ??

i've seen many photographers with great shots shooting with a 20D, and still beats some novice using a 1Dmk3.

i would again take this with a pinch of salt really...

but seriously.....

maybe when 5D mk II comes, I will buy the 5D at low $2K? agree with u that its still a great cam regardless of "old technology" etc...:D

LOL! Canon must have been stuck in rut to release the successor to the 5D. It cannot have too little features to boot because I am sure shooters will expect more from the previous model. And it also cannot have too many features or else it makes the 1Ds Mark III looks like an expensive brick. I am sure shooters are not dumb enough to fall into the megapixel race (I hope!). It is defintely not going to be built like the 1-series but slightly better than XXD series.

The pie must have been really thin to begin with when they segmented this particular niche market. I am chuckling as I type this.

Kudos to Nikon for bringing in real 'upgrades' to the market. To more good years ahead!

with recent price drop in 5D, there are more photogs changing to 5D...it would be an all out FF wars between the camera makers (Sony/Nikon/Canon) in the next few years...

Think I'll just buy a 5D in April when prices freefall.
3499USD is just too much for me. This product seems to be targeted at the D3.

Anyway, I believe Canon will be releasing another FF cam, probably an adv. enthusiast level. But don't quote me.
yes why worry abt the technology chase. The specs for mk2 (if it's true) doesnt seems too spectacular, wondering if I really need the upgrade

5D prices free fall

More updates from the same guy @ Dpreview.

Additional information and clarifications::

The CMOS in the new camera will be an entirely new generation, not based on the current flagship or the current camera it is replacing. The reason Canon can do this without cutting into the 1D series is because the new flagship will best the 5D in 3 key areas: frame rate, buffer, and AF. Canon recognizes these are extremely important to sports photographers. No one shooting pro sports goes backwards to save a few thousand dollars on a body. Canon knows this and understands it isn't competing against itself - even if amateurs on forums such as this (who wont buy the pro-series cam) do.

The CXR NR system will detail retention at 12800 similar to 3200 on current model, though a 1 2/3 stop improvement is the conservative, stated estimate. Canon hopes to create a "wow" factor with a conservative estimate that surpasses itself in studio/ pro review tests, because they know at this level, you'll be looking there. The philosophy here is that it will create such a "buzz," many who would not consider this camera will consider it. Calling a 2-stop advantage a 2-stop advantage would simply be meeting expectations. FPS will also slightly exceed 6 (and 3), as stated. Canon received negative feedback for the 6.5 FPS quoted in the 40D and learned from their mistake here. (Expect Nikon to underpromise at D3 and above cameras in the future. This is common when technology advancements under perform "consumer pull")

The weather sealing will, in fact, be the same as the current flagship. This is in direct response to Nikon and Pentax. Expect full weather sealing to be a feature in all but low-end (Rebel) bodies in the next cycle. You can thank Pentax for this.
Battery life will only be improved by just under 10% due to the extra processing required.
The market segment is not in direct competition with the D300. Just as the 5D created a new class of camera 3 years ago, the new 5D will create a similar new niche above the D300, but below the current Canon flagship. It will remain the affordable, full-frame niche that Nikon chose not to produce. The new Canon flagship, this Fall, will have a "1.5:1 price/performance advantage to the Nikon flagship." (Read carefully: this statement refers to the coming Canon flagship, not the 5D II being discussed here).

You can't really put it that way. It sounds like you're justifying your purchase of the 5D?

It's the reality of life. Products are upgraded to be better, and human nature makes us have the strong tendency to drool over better technology at cheaper prices than b4.

IMHO, it's got nothing to do, and pretty much irrelevant to whether a person with lower end camera can take better pictures than someone with a more expensive one. I think we've heard enough of that. To me, it's a pretty lame argument. (No offence! Lest you get the wrong idea that I'm attacking you. Not directing this specifically at you based on your previous post. But something I feel has been blown out of context in general.)

If we want to go on and on about it, I could also say an experienced person with an eye for composition can take better pics on a pinhole camera than an uninterested novice with a 1Ds MkIII cam. But that's a really lame comparison.

Whether an upgrade is worth it or not really boils down to the individual. Nothing much to do with skill level IMHO. If it is really so, I would have stuck to my D60 cam of 6MP. Why upgrade to whatever 20D, 30D or 40D? I won't kid myself to say it's only about skills. There's a lot that newer technology can do for us and that, like I say, our human nature yearns for.

So bottom line is, if you really like new stuffs, and you can afford it, get it! It's a material world. Otherwise, we should just be happy (or at least try to make yourself happy) with whatever equipment we have at hand.

Thanks for the heads up, Adam!

The "new flagship" eh? That makes me wonder, what's wrong with the present flagship

That said, a 16MP FF 10fps 1D Mark XYZ (for discussion's sake) would give the next rendition of the 5D a comfortable wiggle room without overlapping into the 1D space.

well.... when i was about to leave the studio, i was thinking about this, probably canon without release a 5d replacement yet.

probably a 1Dmk3n ? :)

hahaha...

:bsmilie: I love people like you! it makes the world a better place!

i personally think some of the specs are too good to be true.

with the 1DsMk3 going up to 6400, there's little chance the 5D will hit 12800 natively with a boost to 25600.

weather sealing will possibly be minimal or close to what the 40D has (battery, CF compartments, flash hotshoe)

if the AF is faster, that's prob targetted to eat at the D3's market heh but will possibly not have a full 6fps if not it'll just make the 40D and the 1DsMk3 look silly in comparison. perhaps a size restriction (like how the D3 goes to 11fps in DX mode) may be in play there.

Won't be too surprised if the LCD and Live View would be upgraded though, its about time anyway ;)

The 5DII seems a little over spec'ed to me.
My impression of 5D is an prosumer FF cam. This new toy is like a 1DsIII-Jr.
Two digic III? I only need one if it will reduce the price. 6FPS? I only need 3-4. Liveview? only if it wont cost me more. CXR NR? sounds great I'll take the version2 of this processor when its refined.
So I suspect there will be more FF cams to come by end '08. Probably a more entry level FF - with dual CF/SD.
Maybe canon will have a '3D' to sweep the FF consumer market, just like Nikon's D40 did with the APS-C.

Again, we'll just wait and see, wow at the new stuff, buy the cam if we can afford, and buy some L lenses along the way.
Its gonna be an exciting '08.

Canon product VP reading this post: Guys, all your holiday leave requests are approved! No need to launch a 5Dm2 this year or even next year! Beers on me! :bsmilie:

Or the center can have 2 crosses. :bsmilie:

But a good catch though... after all those web rumors that failed to materialize, I am beginning to handle current rumors with a pinch of salt.

Like what Sony will do for its next flagship DSLR, which will likely be released before the so-called 5D MkII........

June 2,....
Maybe got chance...
I will be BACK!

They just announced the Ixus 85,90 and 970. Maybe there will be other camera announcement later this week?
