LOL! Canon must have been stuck in rut to release the successor to the 5D. It cannot have too little features to boot because I am sure shooters will expect more from the previous model. And it also cannot have too many features or else it makes the 1Ds Mark III looks like an expensive brick. I am sure shooters are not dumb enough to fall into the megapixel race (I hope!). It is defintely not going to be built like the 1-series but slightly better than XXD series.

The pie must have been really thin to begin with when they segmented this particular niche market. I am chuckling as I type this.

Kudos to Nikon for bringing in real 'upgrades' to the market. To more good years ahead!

come on. i know u are gonna get this when it is out. ;)

Probably so as Canon might not want to provoke N into another wave of technological innovation.

Wave of technological innovation??? I find it odd that most people seem to have forgotten how far behind Nikon was between the release of the D1 and D3? And how long that period lasted. Try comparing a 4 MP, 9 AF pt PROFESSIONAL sports camera vs an 8 MP, 45 AF pt competitor. Not to mention the atrocious performance of those Sony sensors before the D3/D300. Yes, the D3/D300 are currently the best cameras in their respective categories... but they have merely caught up with Canon, not overtake the latter by leaps and bounds.

However, thanks to Nikon/Pentax/Olympus/Sony, we can perhaps hope that Canon will (i) watch their QC more carefully (ii) release optically better lenses, particularly at the ultrawide end (iii) include better technology in their lower end cameras. Otherwise, it won't be such a bad idea to dump Canon for other better products in the market. :)

My sentiments exactly!

Those goals will come, as soon as Canon gets over its little "Micro$oft phase" (i.e., "You'll take what we give you, and you'll like it."). I'm glad they're no longer the only vendor with a full-frame sensor, nor the fastest either. I want to see some real competition!

Bro, the 5D madness had been affecting you.

Sorry for sounding a little harsh bro... I can only take one Micro$oft at a time ;)

Cool down bro, since the annoucement is on 22 April. Let's wait for it. Maybe there is a light within darkness. I had done a goggle search. The whole world is talking about it. Oooooh, one month left. :bsmilie:

well... i did asked about the specs for this 5Dmk2, and well..... i've settled for one 5D and i am happy with it.

this rumoured specs seems to be killing off the 1Dsmk3. so i believe certain functions would not be made available to the replacement.

after a few weeks shooting with 5D, i must say.... its a great camera.... and i still stand by my words as why would there always be a need for the latest, greatest, fastest, biggest ?

why ??

because current equipment cannot fulfill your needs or just a way to show off you have the latest and greatest ??

i've seen many photographers with great shots shooting with a 20D, and still beats some novice using a 1Dmk3.

i would again take this with a pinch of salt really...

but seriously.....

Totally agree with your comments. I've got a friend who wins competitions using only a Nikon P&S digicam.

I will be quick to agree with your point.

But there are some pro-photogs who might find the latest, greatest, fastest, biggest cameras helpful to their work. Then again this is a small group of people in the photog community.

Think I'll just buy a 5D in April when prices freefall.
3499USD is just too much for me. This product seems to be targeted at the D3.

Anyway, I believe Canon will be releasing another FF cam, probably an adv. enthusiast level. But don't quote me.

Canon FF... faster come and meet us!!!

there are a small number of guys whom i know here in germany, they are still using the mk2 like me. doing lots of editorial work, and yet still produces great images.

i also have 1-2 of contacts, whom are using the 1dsmk3, is because they can afford to do so, and they are doing relatively well in the business.

well.... from what i can see, they see the potential NEED for the quality work, as the believe that the upgrade would JUSTIFY their needs.

and i am one of those who believe that, an equipment should be able to JUSTIFY your work, and your NEED. and not be used as something to be shown around, telling people you have the latest gadget on the block.

really. i came across someone shooting at oktoberfest 07, the images were really nice and all, as he showed me and my designers. and guess what. shot using 10d....

i cant show because of the contractual terms i signed. if not i would have posted a sample to show.

until now.... believe me. i believe in this digital age, where technology is made user-friendly and products being designed around the user, ultimately its still the skills that count, and the experience and knowledge of the photographer rather than what the camera can produce and deliver.

and if i give the photographer a film camera, i am sure he would be able to take great pictures, as he would with a dslr.

just sharing my views... afterall.... i havent come across any images of the replacement cam. so if theres news, definately theres pictures. otherwise. i believe its just plain rumours again, and all news without solid evidence. ;)

btw. is there such a thing as a "soft 16-35mk2" ? :(
