5D II Specs

Sigh, I just wish the rumor mill would be more inventive than that!

Even as fabricated rumors, these don't stand a chance. Look at the so-called 6D specs. Too bloody close to the holy grail 1Ds Mark III... 20mp, 5fps, full weather sealing... Not a chance in hell Canon would release something like that.

Truly... *yawn*... I was one of those caught waiting and waiting and waiting. Cos of the mentality that hey, if something comes by and it's better for the same price or a little bit more, why not? Cameras market has been like that in the digital age. If you guys are in the Computer hardware market, it's even worse. Not only you contend with new model annoucements, you have to contend with pricings dropping WEEKLY. So, if you hang out just a little longer, you get the same thing cheaper.

I think the deal is, go get what you what, choosing from what's available. And use it. As long as you choose something which is ok for the next three years, I don't think your picture quality or session results will be less desirable than if you hung on and wait.

Of course, I'd love to partake in speculations about new bodies, lenses, gadgets, this and that. But that shouldn't affect one's buying decision, esp if they are just rumours. :)

up for more rumours :gbounce:

rumours make our world go round ...

keep my adranelin pruning

more... more... more...

I've been thinking... we all agree how good and value-for-money the 5D is right now, especially with the price going down once its successor comes along. But how many of us will buy it when its "outdated"? How many will instead buy the NEWER version, even when its untested and unproven?

I think that many, myself included, would likely go for the 5D MKII if possible, despite the fact that the 5D will be half the price, and almost as good, and still FF. Strange how the buyer's mentality works huh?

Express my views. :)

I will still go for the newer version of FF camera, for this case 5D MKII and at the same time retain my current 5D. The reason is simple, I need another FF body with updated technologies. More mega pixels and faster FPS doesn't really interest me. But its the sensor cleaning and live view and best of all wireless file transfer which matter me most. :)

Currently, WFT-E1 only works with 5D, which is very bulky when attached onto the body. I wish that 5D MKII have a WFT attached to the camera like a vertical grip like WFT-E3 to 40D or even smaller WFT-E2 to MK3 bodies. Currently, some of my assignments need on the spot file transfer to overseas. And with better broadband services like mobile broadband and coming Apple Mobile E, it will make my work more efficient. Better services to customer, better income.

These views are what I currently hope for and wish it will come in the near future. Cheers!:)

Before I start, the 5D Mk2 has been so delayed I wish it would get here already...!!

Frankly, about time. It is too close to the 1DsMk3, I am aware - but at the same time, the 1DsMk3 was already in the pipeline when Canon was caught sleeping by Nikon. The D3 is truly something impressive and the D300 has finally delivered the goodies in its own category too despite not being FF. If the specs are real I'll consider it and likely upgrade. Full sealing would go nicely with some of my glass.

The original 5D was a heaven-and-earth upgrade over even the 20D when it showed up. It truly set a new gold standard and redefined expectations. The thing is, if Canon is to avoid the 5DMk2 turning into a simply 'warmed over' upgrade a la 30D, it WILL have to be revolutionary. Revolutionary to the point where it may compromise 1Ds sales. It is really what they want to achieve. Sell a few 1Ds or a lot more 3Ds?

I owned the 30D and really I cannot even remember what was special about it (vs 20D) apart from the picture styles and a bigger LCD. IIRC, it wasn't even a MP upgrade!!

The 6D appears to be in danger of doing this yet again.

I'm an existing 5D owner and a huge fan of the 5D.. will wait and see whether the 5DMk2 actually delivers the goodies before upgrading. If it comes out closer to the 6D specs I am extremely unlikely to upgrade.

You have a good point about the buyer's mentality - that's how sales and marketing works. The pragmatic few who will choose the classic 5 are few and far between. I have always maintained that the 5D will still be as good a camera as it has ever been even the day after its replacement has been launched.

Whatever happens, my 5 has rendered years of faithful and outstanding service and will not be turfed out of its drybox when the replacement comes. My 350D is still in active service although I tend to send it on shoots where weight is absolutely critical (ie. times when my primary role is NOT as a photographer but I still want a reasonably good camera which won't get in my way or weigh me down because I have other tasks to perform).

Express my views. :)

Very pragmatic, practical view :)

I think the 5DMk2 may have a WFT grip specially for it, but you can bet it won't be cheap - they are swee but their price has always kept me away from it. I have done similar 'on location' shoots with realtime transmission to an editing station - except that being cheapskate, I used 5M USB cables and put up with all the hassle they involved!

Broadband + camera = awesome!! Keep your compression high and the file sizes down though, I still don't have enough confidence in mobile broadband (in general) to start throwing RAW files down it :D

:bsmilie:.....I kept the file size to mid jpeg file unless specified by customer when sent to customer. :) .... Recently, received a mail from Singtel that they have upgrade my current mobile broadband to 2Mbps while paying the current monthly bill.

The new rumors are not unexpected to me.
I expected at 2-3 new FF cams. A 5D replacement, and a more entry-level FF.
Only I don't speculate on the naming and features.

I expected the entry level 450D, but was surprised with the 1000D.
Entry-level, and even more entry-level.

The prosumer FF can be bundled with the 24-105L, the entry-level FF may be bundled with the aged 28-135, or maybe with a new lens even!

At this rate DSLRs are approaching the life-cycle of compacts and handphones... and each with minor incremental improvements.

There is more to a camera than fps and MP and ISO. I am thinking of getting the 5D from US but decided to wait for the MKII for
1) live view. I really hope they can have an articulate LCD
2) better sensor. I am sure in these few years, canon has made some improvements to the sensor, like better light gathering capability, etc.
3) better AF. I am sure the AF in the MKII will be better
4) better sealing and dust protection + auto cleaning

after using E330 with the articulate LCD, I still really miss it after switching to sigma SD14. IT is nice to be able to frame pics at waist height without squatting or shoot higher than eye level looking down at your subject.

Anyway, 5D has been around for a long time and there are quite a few technologies it lacks. like live view, dust buster, in body IS (not possible with canon)

Cool, congratulations! ... time to up the file size? :D :D

Agreed about the fps/MP/ISO. What I meant was that based on the above specs (and assuming nothing else new since it was not mentioned) I would not be tempted to upgrade. So we are actually thinking the same thing, those 3 things alone would not be enough to push an upgrader.

Dust cleaning would be nice but it is not essential. Hmm actually maybe it might be useful. I am less and less fond of visiting Harborfront these days. My 40D is doing good, no cleaning needed. My 350D had dust on the sensor in just 2 weeks after I bought it.

Live view doesn't really rock my boat except in a few special situations.

AF means a lot to me. The 40D with all-points-crosshair AF is a significant upgrade, I appreciated that. There is a noticeable improvement in AI Servo tracking and I can finally use the other points with confidence, something I could not do previously.

Dust sealing - I am hopeful for full 1D-class sealing.

Unbelievable that people are still talking about a phantom camera after so long. :bsmilie:

As long as it's still a speculated cam, it'll still be talked about.
