1D Mk 3 -- AT LAST!!!

I think you guys misread the 1D Mk III whitepaper. The 1D MkIII is the same as any of the 1D series camera in that only its centre AF point is cross-type with f4 and faster lenses. The centre AF point of the 1D was already cross-type with f4 and faster lenses. In fact, the 1V and EOS 3 (with similar 45 pt area AF) may already have similar f4 centre cross-type AF, but I can't verify that now.

The thing that is new on the 1D Mk III is 19 cross-type sensors (f2.8 or faster) spread out among the 45 Area AF points, as compared to only 7 cross-type sensors clustered in the centre in earlier 1D series cameras.

So ideally you would still want to use f2.8 or faster lenses to maximize the AF performance of this monster. :)

monster :sweatsm: not for the weak heart :bsmilie:

I'm real lucky to have a supportive father for photography,
Glad to know that you and your father share the same interests in photography! My hope is that my daughters will some day also share the same interests in photography as me. Then I could go out shooting with them, and it'll also help me justify more upgrades and purchases in future. :bsmilie:

Thank God my Dad was also supportive of me many years back. He bought me an EOS 630 (which I kept till today for sentimental reasons) and a 35-135 lens for what was then considered a huge amount of $$ to spend on a "hobby". And I've been shooting ever since.

Wah, you guys are so lucky! Now my father is saying "Thank God I have a son that loves photography and upgrades often, cos now I get free equipment!"

Your dad is lucky... when is he having his 1DMII??

Haha I agree that I should not waste my father's hard earned money, but what if he's the one who suggested the 1D Mk3 to me ;). Although he doesn't do much photography now, my father was quite an enthusist during the film era. So it's just a continuation of his hobby through me (you should see the things we do to persuade my mother to allow the purchases). So, I know that it's not really a need to keep upgrading, but if my father feels it would be good to have the 1D Mk 3, who am I to stop him (must listen to elders, esp parents).

calebk, I'm 17 YO this year, so I'm pretty sure I can handle that "monster" 1D Mk 3 (i did my 2.4km run in 10:39)

Haha. I'm not the one who thinks you can't handle the monster. If he thinks it's a good purchase then get it lor.

hey garion..this monster is in your bag yet?:)

:) i won't be getting this for sometime anyway. My father will be away for awhile till july, and the new stock is coming in around then. Hopefully by then my mother would have agreed to the purchase of the 1D Mk 3.

It's a pity I don't gamble then... the odds are alittle stacked against a single person to win ;)

Err.. A5 is what huh? ippt needs 9:45 to get gold right :) you almost there  keep it up :) I need to improve by 2 mins 30 secs :bsmilie:

Goodness me, 9.45 for gold? Thats insane!

Those who want to turn pro in photography should train by running 2.4km with a camera pack and all their gear. I always see my company's pro photographer running around with a 1Ds Mk II and a Nikon and a full complement of lenses trying to chase after the VIP. :bsmilie:
