Hi I see your posting volume is only 5 posts. I hope you do not mislead some of the newbies into your own zone. If you are not serious about this thread please refrain from posting unrelated topic or as CS members would call it OT = Off the Topic.

Your full coorperation is needed here. Thanks

Oh..Ok sorry...my bad. Silly joke.

It is a good idea to have the ZS face to face discussion I think.

A workshop in singapore by a Singaporean is kind of difficult tho. First and foremost not many practice ZS seriously from calibration, exposure, development and the works. Its good if any true practitioner is willing to give the workshop.

Just a thought. Don't mind me.

:)

1Eh me providing space and venue? I think not for now. I rather conduct ZS for those who newbies... Not me. I can help those newbies just to let them know the fundamental basics and let them decide for themselves whether they are interested in the ZS. I rather give them a preview before joining the course. With a fee of course!

2 student, I am sure you have enough retirement fund to live up to a 100 years old. For me, I am still young and still looking for more $$$. :bsmilie:

3 ZS is not a system where you just stop half way and give up. It's quite tedious and need plenty of time and effort to produce your Zone V. For now if I do conduct a course, it will be for the newbies only. And of course there is fees involve.

1 Reminds me of an unpleasant experience in my "early days" in photography. I had some problems with some images. I knewa certain cultural medallion winner and happened to meet him in Cathay Photo. I showed him my prints and asked for advice. He hummed, said something unitellligible and walked off. "S..t!" I told myself. Never will I treat anyone who ask for help in this manner. Later, I found out if you want to learn something from him, you will have to join his course.

2 As to my financial welfare, I would suggest you watch the movie "Underseige II" starring Steven Seagal. In this movie the principle of "assumption is the mother of all f...up" was elegantly put forward.

3 I am of the opinion that you have a very blinkered view of the zone system. Certainly Bruce Barnbaum does not make it as tedious as you make it out to be. Or perhaps you might know things Barnbaum might not know. Barnbaum's zone system is so simple that one wonders what the fuss is all about. Heck, he does not even do equipment, film and developer testing! But his prints!! Well if it is good enough for Barnbaum, it is good enough for me! There are all kinds of photographers using all kinds of equipment. For most. the tediousness is totally unneccessary. And a simple application of the ZS is sufficient to allow one to make better negatives.

Well Singscott and I will persist in conducting the workshop, as long as there is interest. And we will direct it at the newbies. And it will be for free. And we will show that good information and instruction does not come from "pros" and fee paying workshops/courses.

Talking ends!

Action begins!

Correction to the paragraph.
Should read "does not only comes from.........."

Well I am a "pro" that not collecting $ for this workshop just doing it for keen photographer :bsmilie: The workshop still need some kind of token fee to make it interesting and fun. Will be less then $30.00, if more people join in the workshop cheaper it is. :sweatsm:

Take a break guys ... learn how to laugh at life and life will laugh with you! ;)

Hi student and singscott,

I am very interested in attending this zone system workshop if there will be one. Lookin forward to learn more abt the principles and application of ZS, especially in its application to B/W photography.

I am cool to chip in for snacks or kopi........ :D

Count me in man !!!

I've been quite interested in organizing a zone system work shop.

my instructor told me a very compressed version would still take quite a while to go through. It involves calibration and understanding all the way from your equipments to the final part in the dark room.

if you guys are interested you may contact me at rueyloon@36frames.com I'll see if I can get something going on.

The instructor is pretty young, she's just back from the US with an advance diploma in fine arts photography.

cheers

Would your instructress care to join us and teach in this non-profit workshop? We will be delighted to have her give us the full works. Some may want this.

Personally I do not bother with the entirety of the practice of ZS. My objective is a simple understanding of the ZS and exposure. Most photogs will be using roll films, and much of the testing may not be terribly useful to roll film holders.

But for those who want the full works..... a properly trained person like your instructress will be most valuable!

i got a potentially extremely stupid question to ask... cos my version of RTMF doesn't work... din update... ;p

here goes...

Is Zone Matching same as Zone System????

http://konicaminolta.com/products/consumer/digital_camera/slr/maxxum-7d/05.html

cos i am wondering should i forget about the ISO and use Zone matching instead?

Err Zone matching is not zone system . zone matching is a program but zone system is an approach or a discipline :sweatsm:

yupz, if anyone is interested in a full course, (I think she mentioned 8 weeks), I can get her to organize one. But the problem is there is no dark room at my studio :(
