Zeiss Lens on EOS

Got a question. On a normal 35mm film camera, when I use the 45mm Tessar, I don't get much DOF at wide apertures. If I were to use the 350D with a 28mm Distagon, does it effectively mean that I get a 45mm equivalent with lots more DOF at equvalent apertures?

Yes, u'll get more DOF.
Essentially u are getting a cropped 28mm.
This explains why pictures from digicam have great DOF as the picture is a 'cropped' portion of a wide angle lens.

Hi, please enlighten me...
Is Carl Zeiss 28-70mm f3.5-4.5, worth buying?
What's CZ lens with "Practica bayonet fitting and mechanical and electronic contacts?" Just wondering if it would fit my EOS cam body...

Love the harmonious, natural and pastel tones... refreshing cos digital usually means lots of dynamic overly-rich colours.

That's the Carl Zeiss Jena made for East German cameras Praktica.
In addition to the screw mount, they make a bayonet mount camera with electronic contacts and CZ Jena lens.
Models are BC1, BX20, etc
Now completely obsolete. After reunification, they stopped making.
Camera bodies are quite crude, not up to West Germany standards.
Nowadays, no West Germany.
Not up to Japanese stds too.

Just get the screw mount versions. You can use anytime with adapter.
The 20mm flektogon, 55mm macro, 80 f1.8, 135mm f2.8
are good.
Forget about the 180mm 2.8 meant for medium format and used with adapter for 35mm. I owned all these lenses before except for the 55mm macro and 80 f1.8.

Just buy cheap 2nd hand Contax Carl Zeiss.
No need for 21mm (someoen selling US$4,300+?)
Silly price. Lens is good. Seller is a psycho case, hoping to rip off innocent buyer who deos not know.

Very helpful info and advice... Wah good that I asked before buying!

I came across a Carl Zeiss Jena Flectogon 20mm F2.8 single coated (zebra version). Someone says that it's lousy, the newer multi-coated non-zebra type are very much better. Any opinion?

a smooth click should be heard. :)

thanks.

Just a thought. Has anybody tried to mimick the Zeiss colours using photoshop? I can think if a few reasons that would make this difficult e,g, different sensors, different lenses, different settings, but would there not be some general approach or workflow that we can use? Anybody come across this on the internet before?
