CZ 28mm f2.8 is my favourite lens too ;p
Second in place is the CZ 35-70mm f3.4

I like your picture.
Very clever idea to use a piece of paper to reflect sun ray to highlight the face.

Out of curiosity... Anyone saw the Contax 135/ 2.8 for sale at TCW? Seems to be dirt cheap..

I think I was using f4 to buy some insurance over mis-focus.
Usually I'll shoot at f2.8.

Anyone can tell me if those CZ lense can have such high color contrast is it ws mounted on Nikon with a M42 adapter with optical element?

The optical element possibly degrades the image.. So you'll have to test and find out... Alternatively, you can JOIN THE LIGHT SIDE!

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Seriously, if you want to mount other lenses onto a body, the EOS mount is one of the best because of the flange distance.. And Nikon is also one of the worse for the same reason.
Almost impossible to use optics-less adaptors for Nikon bodies without losing focus to infinity..

I'm deep **** in dark side...
Nikon Body, prime lense, zoom lense, kit lense, macro lense.
flash, and a Xpensive flash code....

If want to pull myself out from dark side....
end up my pocket/bank account will lives in dark side for a year...

haha anyway, i think i'll get a M42 with optical element and try out some nice lense.
my friend owned a Super-Takumar Multi-Coated-Takumar 50/1.4....

But i'm tempting with his leica and zeiss West germany 50mm f/1.4 .....

but the thing is, the leice is bayonet mount... :)
anyone know is there any leica bayonet --> nikon body ?
i'm using D70...

if so, i can get myself a Leica Zeiss 16mm /1.4 !! :)

Hrmm.. Not that expensive to get a cheap Canon body.. LOL.... Anyway, Nikon lenses can always be adapted to Canon EOS w/o optics..

Anyway, here's something from the Sonnar 135mm:

CZ lens for 35mm cameras comes in two favours, AF and non AF, the AF types are known as the N-mount, might not/will not work on EOS body even with adapter coz even if you have a adapter for N-mount to EOS mount, how are you going to drive the AF of the lens? Most prob that even if you have the adapter for the N-mount to EOS mount, you can only work in manual mode. Most of the CZ lens the pple are toking abt here are the manual type aka the contax/yashica mounts and these comfirm can and will work on eos body with the aid of an adapter. Just one thought though, i've heard that the old contax/yashica mount lens can actually be fitted onto contax N series of camera with the N-mounting......hmmm how abt some reverse engineering to make it fit the other way round then maybe the N-mount len could than be use on the EOS body also

Hi! so you mean contax has auto focus and contax/yashica mount has only manual focus?

The mount for their G1 & G2 rangefinders uses fully electronic lenses.
There's no manual focus ring nor aperture ring on the lense. Hence, even if you adapt them mechanically, you can't focus/ change aperture.

OTOH, the Contax/ Yashica mount lenses are manual lenses with the focus ring and aperture setting rings..

To add on, the N mount, even if adapted to EOS, can only be used in full manual mode. No forms of AF or automatic aperture stop down will be available...

This picture is totally awesome. Kudos to the photographer.
the CZ lens also looks very juicy. But for someone new to DSLRs like me, it is bit of unknown territory. Compatibility issues, adaptors and no AF sound like a lot of trouble for me.

Pardon my ignorance, but which camera is this lens originally made for ? An Olympus?

The CZ means Carl Zeiss. The lens is meant for Contax cameras.
Not only is the lens sharp, colour from the CZ lens also looks very nice and the lens is has very good flare control. CA is also well control. And the details in the shadow area stands out very well!

I think these are the properties why the CZ lens appeal to me and also many other people. I guess my pictures here have converted many people to use CZ lenses.

Keng How is a good photographer.
It shows in his composition.
Not everyone of us will be able to take same quality of photos just because we buy same or better equipment. :bsmilie:

Yep, can't agree more. As I've mentioned before, I have the same CZ28mm lens, but my pix quality is erm... and it cannot be attributed to the fact that its made in Japan and not Germany.

Nonetheless, the subject (people) of my pix still look 3-D compared to those taken with my other lens. Even my friend who doesn't know an iota of photography pointed to CZ pix as the "far better ones"! Now that's a testimony to CZ lens!
