hmm under exposed meaning ?? awww.. don't make me worry leh...
so wat sld i ask them to check huh ?

Underexpose means the pics were not exposed enough and turned out dark. I was actually already wondering about that from your previously posted pics, because even though the iso was pumped up/shutter speed slow causing blur, etc., if the exposure is right they should not look so dark (esp the keyboard shot).

Just take the camera in and tell them the pics look "underexposed" or "dark". It might be just the exposure meter's calibration is out which they can fix for you. Otherwise worse come to worse if cannot fix they might change a new one for you, so nothing to worry about. :)

ahhh or could it be my fingers blocking the lens?? :p
ahh i hope that there's some problem with my cam .. then they can fix it n it'll be better~~ HOHOHOHO~~
btw.. actually when i took the photos... the sky already like this kind of color .. does it matter? i only worry tomorrow i bring my cam down to fuji n they tell me nothing wrong..

The pics will look flat if the sky is cloudly, but they should not be underexposed. The fountain pics not only look underexposed but the colors are washed out. Looking back at the 1st 3 pics you posted, e.g. the teddy bear, the bear's mouth was near grey instead of close to white.

You can try shooting a few more shots outdoor in the afternoon when the sun is very bright. If the pics are still "dark/dim" then there might be some exposure problem with the camera. Not sure if your camera can display histogram, but if it is able, check the histogram after shooting a scene with balance lighting. The histogram should be quite evenly distributed. Otherwise if the pic is underexposed it will skew to 1 side.

hmmm ... still not sure how u see that there's some problem with my cam.. but shall take ur advise to let them check... really hope there's problem with my cam....can't wait to get rid of it!
i've tried taking photos when it's bright... but the photo doesn't turn out so nice .. as i thought... it's always blurry
how abt this ?

The exposure of this pic looks ok and well balanced, so it seems that your camera is only performing bad under certain conditions when the light is bad, but not always... This pics look blur due to 2 factors: high iso (800) and slow shutter speed (1/18s), which is a result of low lighting condition. It's exif data shows that the 'hand sign' warning had been issued.

I've also used Photoshop to check the histograms of your previous pics, and most of them are indeed slightly under, and almost all are lacking contrast. This should not be the case as Fuji cameras are well known for their very good low light performance.

ahhh ic ..i guess this photo was taken under strong lights.. so it came out better?
thanks for ur help!!
does it means i can bring the cam to the service center tomorrow? :p
btw.. u're not sleeping yet??

Erm, not really. For the pig trotter (?) pic the light is actually quite low, that's why the camera pumped up the iso and lowered the shutter speed. But in this case the camera was able to meter it properly and achieved a good exposure.

Under those other low light conditions of your previous pics, the meter didn't do a good job and hence the exposure was not good.

You can try bring it in for them to check, there is no harm. You can also bring the bad pics in (by putting them on the xd card or cd) to let them have a look. But before that remember to try the brightly lit shots first.

Ya need to sleep, working tomorrow. Just staying up a little longer to help you. :)

errmm actually i took the pig not trotter!! my pig pillow in my room.. and it's during the day.. should be bright enuff bah?
think i'll just show them those photos i took and see wat they say.. since i've time tomorrow :p the tot of fixing this cam makes me happier~~~

brought the cam down to the service center today and the guy said there's nothing wrong..and updated the firmware for me... that's all..
:( no choice.. have to keep it .. no buyers for now..

Sorry to hear that. Here is something that might help you: set camera to Manual mode, then put in exposure compensation of about +2/3 to +1ev.

Here is how you do it:
  1. Press Menu/Ok button->Shooting Mode->Manual.
  2. Next, scroll to Exp. Compensation, set the value as mentioned.
  3. Try shooting some pics and see the results. Experiment with the compensation. +ev will increase the exposure and -ev will decrease it.

Please note that once this is set, the setting is retained even when the camera is turned off. If you no longer want it you'll need to adj it back to zero yourself.

Cheers. :)

Just to check with you. What is the light conditions of the outdoor shoots, and have you adjusted the white balance?

Do play around with your camera to know your camera performance under different conditions.
You have just own the camera for few days, you will not understand the real performance and any limitations of the camera yet. Don't get rid of the camera. And please read the manual.

thanks ziploc.. i've changed the settings now.. and will try to take more shots tomorrow morning ...
guess i've no choice now but to play around with this .. cam.... read the manual.. manual only makes me more confused.. :p but anyway thanks sooo soo much for all ur help~~

You're welcome. Hope too see some nice pics from you. :)

Last one i took in the bus at night.. using night mode.. without flash...

Nice improvement. Seems like you are getting familiar with its operation already. Keep shooting, will improve even more.:)

Your last pic, sorry your worst pic of the 4, was shot with a slow shutter of 1/4. This is impossible for hand held and on a shaky bus. This could be due to Night Mode is never meant to be handheld. You may have better output if you shoot in Auto. Just my humble 2c. But overall, good effort, z5 shines as an indoor/low light cam like its F series siblings.
