:dunno: revealing other ppl's age is not a good manner.;p Sorry for my unfamilarity about the ppl here, but from this thread we start to know each other, that's a good start, isn't it?

That is OK!

I am 54 years old! But also a relative newbie!

when you start work, we'll see about that.

One must differentiate between between making an image for oneself, and one for the client.

For me and most of members here, we make images for ourselves.

We do not have to worry about "starting work".

Sorry for my observation:

The shlt of 2004 and the shlt of today are the same shlt...... and the shlt of 2010 will still be the same ....

You are right that the sh1t is the same.

But the sh1t pile is higher!!!!!

We are really getting into deep sh1t!

Simple. Just show this to the model, Yuki and ask her what she thinks of it.

If she likes it, that's ALL that matters.

After all, regardless good or bad, it's the clients that pay you the dough.

This is one of the things that others had mentioned.

Let the model be the judge.

THE MODEL BE THE JUDGE?

Since when?

Apology not accepted.

If you are not apologetic, dun apologise.

Too late. You asked for it. I explained that I didn't make a mistake and that I don't need to apologise but you cannot understand basic English or are too busy defending your ego :bsmilie:

yawn... u are sick... its useless talking sense to you when all u think of is language.

btw, just for a thought, what have DP done to you that makes u so pissed?

I only know that most of you don't talk like this to people in real life when you wanna help them improve on whatever area. If you wanna help someone improve, you normally tell them nicely, or even hang out with them and try to show them by example. If you bitch about them or talk sarcastically or arrogantly, it's usually cos you despise them or just cannot control your own ego. You know what I'm talking about. But it's hard for you to be humble and accept my gentle criticism on your possibly twisted perspective.
the only way to learn in photography is to show your pictures around...

not everyone is born with a good eye

so the more you show, the more you kena, the more you learn, the more you shoot, and the more you show again....

this is a circle ... you go a few rounds of bashing, one day you gonna shoot damn well

i must admit that i didnt like DP cos it was pretty harsh the first time i saw this critic

but after awhile of reading so many critics, i realise that DP and DCA may be harsh but they criticize the pictures and pin point out the flaws they see... in the pictures

i dont recall DP or DCA insulting the models, or photographers, or cursing photographers' parents...

a bit childish to bring parents into the argument isnt it?

as for this picture, it definitely does not work for me. the only reason i see the picture over and over again is because it scares me...

why dont TS ask yuki if she likes this picture of hers to be blown A0 size and hung in her living room? if she agrees to this idea, then this picture is very well taken... and i must have overlooked something...

Pardon me... I was lurking in DPreview and a few other forums for a while until I heard about clubsnap through the national day rally... :bsmilie:

I find that clubsnap is the best forum so far in terms of control over flaming, trolling... Boring threads like "canon vs nikon" are at the minimum...

So THANK YOU clubsnap! "Clap clap"

Sigh, i've posted about twice the number of posts over my posts in the past half yr since i joined. For those who are quarrelling, please chill yourselves. As i've mentioned just now. It's just a picture which may not be flattering in someone's eyes and may be tolerated by others. And it's just a discussion or exchange of ideas, why endup turn into a fight? Don't try to persuade each other, let's coexisit in this platform.:)

to narloke

don't be too frustrated about the comments here. learning is a long road.
Have more confidence in yourself and in your pictures. sometimes you have to stand up for your pictures. one thing you must know is that photography is divided into art and career.
for those professionals like me who are doing photography for a living, we have a set of different priorities.
for hobbyist like you and most people here, photography is a kind of art. art can be anything. it's totally up to you.
the professionals here who stress on technicalities like sharpness and all that is not wrong although i don't agree
with the way they carry out their instructions (but thanks to them leejay visits me
quite often nowadays. (because i am a lonely old man)).

to perform photography as an art, you need a lot of recklessness and self-pride. just a day ago leejay visited me. had a plastic bag in his hand. i asked what's that. he said it's a new hard disk.
then he stuck his tongue out and said 'my hard disk full again, need to store more photos'.

narloke, if you think you have captured yuki the way you want it, then that's fine. it's an art. your pic is clearly a gothic art. defend your work! i always tell leejay, don't be so humble because you are not that great. humility is only for great men.

last month one chap messaged me-
'Noticed you were very generous in offering to share your experience with leejay.
I am a newbie too... possible to extend your generosity to others too? Thank you.'

to that i replied-
'i see leejay's madness and boldness in the art. this is important.
show me yours.'

Definitely i want to learn whatever i can from others as well. But don't know whether i m mad and bold enuf or not to be qualified

hi, thanks for sharing your picture. i can't say i personally like it, though i don't think it deserves the kind of venom that has been directed at it.

i actually do feel that there's a certain coherence to the posing/dressing etc. i think it's a good thing that your model insisted on dressing like this - now the picture carries the stamp of her personality as well as yours.

the picture is not a flattering one. but the pose and angle you chose suggests that you weren't looking to make a flattering picture any way.

as for the model's opinion - of course it is valuable if the model is your client or if she is a friend looking forward to some pix of herself looking good. but otherwise, why should the model be the final authority on the success of your effort?

thanks again for putting this up. it does not resonate with me personally, but it did make me linger a little longer.

Don't worry about it. It's often mistaken.

I want you to know that this isn't really THAT bad. It's a potential shot, as compared to many here which are just... worse.

My first impression here was that you've offended some people, because I'd not seen so much enthusiasm in slamming another person's photos here before unless the person really did something VERY bad or posted an extremely extremely bad shot, which, isn't your case. :dunno:

I'm not a mod but I feel if the unrelated discussions go on, you may consider kindly asking the discussion to be moved to other subforums since it's no longer about the photo.

Cheers,

Well, i always restrict myself to b a real gentleman though sometime i have to defend my views, so I m also confused about the doubts you have---did i offend any ppl here b4, very seriously... "

Nah!!!

I do not believe for a second that you (as a person) offended anyone.

It was your image. It offended those whose sensitivities do not resonate with yours.

That is OK!

My respect to you and your spirit in pursuing self-improvement. As a fact, i m just 26 yrs old, so i really have a long way to go and to learn from the attitude that you have:embrass:

waaa super long fire fight.

buay tahan.

the testersterone level in this room is drowning me.

just a quick question, u have other shots from this series or is this your best picture?

i have to agree that this photo totally does nothing for me but i'm not just gonna sit here and put it down like a rabid dog.

First up do consider the right POSING for her.
This pose makes her look like a female rguby/wrestler who's about to fart.

Second is the clothes.
Pink flowery cutesy jap style clothes. with brown backdrop. and lighting.
Very salah leh.

Take her out of this context, put white background and shoot it clean will be quite cute.
Take her out of the clothes, put on some dark colored dresses and shoot it as it is, will be quite mood. her makeup already reflects that.

so make the changes and show us again soon!

Your imagination about the pose tickled me until i can't stop laughing, well, you win liao in terms of imagination. And i agree with the 2nd pt, personally i prefer black or white backdrops to any other kinds, but too bad, that's the only choice on that day. Thank you for viewing and the helpful comments;)

That's the understatement of the year ........................ PRO!!! ;)

PRO is short for Protest ........................... :bsmilie:

Heehee, seems i m always doing unflattering things, unflattering picture, unflattering responses to comments, unflattering decision upon my parents expectations. But life is not full of flatters, isn't it?
And i agree, the model shouldn't be final authority, that's the reason i post-processed my own set of pictures, while gave her another sets based on the style and tones that she wants:bsmilie:
