With 17XX for XE1 with 18-55 lens, really doesnt make sense to me buying it stand alone.

Agreed..
The kit pricing is surprisingly low..
Wonder why..

This lens is very well built as compared to other brands' kit lens.. and sharpness is much better than your average kit lens..

Worth every penny?.. maybe..

I have got all 3 prime lens. Doesn't really make much sense paying so much for 18-55. Could use XE1 for a back up to my Xpro1. Really waiting for 14mm.

I have only the 35mm prime.. which is used as the body cap for my X-E1.. haha..
The 18-55mm lens is a nice add on for me.. wide enough for general use.. and for travelling too..

Will be waiting for the 23mm to replace the 35mm that I have now..

I have 18 and 35, next on the list is the 14 and 56.

Maybe will pick up the 18-55 zoom if I can find out at $500-600, one day :bsmilie:

How about the size and weight with X-E1?
Any feedback :)

Quite balanced. Definitely lighter and smaller than a canon 550D

Oops. Forgot to mention that I have the gariz case on as well. Will probably be even better with the thumbs up

this is the kit lens for xe1?

Yes. Thats right. Kit lens for xe1.

Its very good for daytime use..
Night time nothing beats the 35mm lens for now..

Night time XF18 not bad also, you gain 1-stop compare to the zoom! ;p

Another advantage of the 18mm.. its a pancake..

It makes the X-E1 very compact..

Went to molest the XF18-55 at Click! during lunch time today. Very good price $900 cash for standalone set.

XE-1 kit is $17++, XE-1 body is $14++... the zoom lens alone is $900

Anyway, some photos of the XF18 on my X-Pro1.

Some initial impressions:
1. I have both my XF18 and XF35 with me. Compare the wide-end of the zoom vs XF18, I personally find the XF18 has quicker AF than the zoom. Maybe this is due to f/2 vs f/2.8.
2. The zoom is solid, makes my XF18 feels like a toy. The zoom's hood is plastic though.
3. XF35 AF is still faster than the zoom at 35mm, again maybe due to f/1.4 vs f/4.
4. OIS really works on the zoom, I can handheld at 1/10s at 55mm at still get decent results. My XF35 gives me artistic paintings when I shoot below 1/15s.
5. Weight balance is pretty good with the zoom on the X-Pro1.
6. Implementation of zoom-framing on the X-Pro1 is pretty awkward. The framing box is like 30% of the entire viewfinder when I zoom to 55mm. How I wish the X-Pro1 will automatically change to higher magnification (0.7x) OVF when it zoom pass 35mm!

Can't tell on the IQ yet, need to unload my photos into LR tonight to do some comparison. Nevertheless I don't think I will want the zoom in my bag... pretty happy with my both primes.

anyone can help to post comparison of the 18mm and 35mm prime withthe 18-55? maybe shot with same focal length and same aperture? thanks

Have to wait for those who own both primes and the zoom... I tested the zoom in shops, too dark to work out any fair comparison.

Has been in Japan for the pass week, spend the first few days swapping between the 18mm and 35mm. Not a good option with impatient kids in tow.

Finally bought the 18-55mm at yodobashi in Kyoto for ard S$860 after 5% tax rebate. Left both the 18 and 35 in the bag from then on. IS is fantastic, no movement blur at 1/15 when shooting wide hand
held. IQ can't be compared with the 18 or 35 prime but it is a good compromise if you have only about 30sec. in each location.

They have a notice that state 14mm out in mid January.

I am in HK with my family.. Using 18-55mm all the time.. Very versatile and images are really sharp for a kit lens..

Of course not as good as the IQ of 35mm.. Only whipped out the 35mm once at night..
