Hi, yrh0413 (Daniel)

I have not been reading up clubsnap for a while. I see that you finally bought XP1!

I also see that you bought the ef x20 flash. What is your thought about the flash?

Possible to write a field report about it?

I remembered that you do not like to use flash, thus I was kinda surprise when I saw that you have 1 in your inventory. :)
But did you use it fequent enough to share with us your thought on this flash?

Really appreciate the info.

Thanks
Xavier Lin

Haha to be really honest with you, I won't have gotten the EF-X20 if there is an onboard flash on the x-pro1! I needed an automatic flash as there are times I need to rely on flash e.g. Backlight situations. So far I have only fired a couple of test shots with it; I usually use my x-pro1 without the flash. The Canon sync cord was one of the leftovers when I sold my Canon setup.

In terms of usability the EF-X20 performs OK but not decent. Refresh rate is slow even on Lithium AAAs, and it does not have swivel/ bounce feature. A bit on the pricey side... Let's just say it is a premium accessory built specifically for the x-pro1. For close to $300 brand new one can actually get a SB600 or 430EX II that offers so much more than just a dumb TTL flash.

By the way I would suggest you upgrade your lenses and camera to the latest firmware before you spend more time with it. My XF lenses are not dead silent, motor noise is inevitable but it is not disturbing loud either.

Hi Daniel,

The flash is not available at most shops. MS color (qoute me $265 & said tat's the best price) told me that they are ordering 10 pieces, but 1 week past and no news.
Went to Funan, all the "popular" retail have no stock. Only one particular shop which no one mentioned here before have a display set, but brand new and I paid $270 for it.

Same here, if there's a built in flash like X100, I wouldn't have spent $270 on the flash. I felt the start up is extremely slow.

In fact, too damn slow. :( (i'm using advance alkaline energizer) but I read from somewhere that using a rechargerable batteries (eneloop was mentioned), it will starts faster.

Don't know how true, but since I'm gg to buy rechargeable, I will try it and see if it's true.

And it bother me abit that I have to switch on the camera then the flash every time I need to use it.
Anyway, i feel that the flash performance is not that bad. Not harsh at all.

3rd day with the flash, only tried for 1 day, that is on National Day, for my son's performance at school. After that hardly used it.

I already upgraded the camera & lens's latest firmware quite some time ago. I don't find the lens annoying, but a stranger asked me about it, as he wanted to get a XP1, and asked me to demo it to him. After a few demo, he said that's the motor noise is the chattering sound. Thus I just wanna confirm about it with all XP1 user.

Well the x-pro1 is never a fast camera anyway. With large aperture primes we rely less on flashguns.

The noise should be normal, lens chatter issue has been rectified long time ago...

Was wondering about the aperture clicking problem I read about when the camera is metering.. Is it resolved? Heard it affects the 35mm lens quite badly

resolved in the 1st firmware update.

Dear all,

Here's my set up:

Heard from MS Colour that the next batches of zoom lens are coming this or next week. Awesomeness.

Looking to add more lenses soon. Any recommendations? :)

wow zoom lens coming next week? Sure or not? no announcements at all? @.@"?

From the horses' mouth on Monday. Then again, it could be salesman-to-salesman talk. I was there grabbing a UV filter and they just gave me a headup.

Then again, I haven't had enough time to fully shoot my 35mm to death yet lol

Wow! Cool! But I thought the 14mm was supposed to be next?

I've just sold my 18mm. I'm waiting for the 14mm and the 56mm, then I'll be a happy man. Then if Santa is really generous next Christmas, I'll get the 10-24mm.

Lol Dude why you quote me? I don't know anything!

Sorry mate! I'm using iPad app for Clubsnap, and it doesn't have the "reply to thread" option.

Good grief...I must be blind. Thanx!

Dear all,

A quick question - i cant seem to get my grids on my LCD after enabling it from menu.

It can't be that much of a rocket science right?

(but I must admit, still can't regurgitate the user manual so i might have missed some important pages!)

And here are my new GAS items:

Protector Filter PRF-52
Hand Grip HG-XPro1
Shoe Mount Flash EF-X20

Yummeh!!!
