Just my point of view here, don't get upset. I like these guys works and I applaud them for such a great project, despite of the outroar of all the "buay song" people. Well done!

i don't know them, and i think what they did was an insult to the art community.

i guess for watever reason they have to intially come up wif this prank.. we can leave it as that.. (yes, we were fooled, jus accept it)

but to lie thru the process to get the works exhibited was not really accepatable..

no idea if the motive was to get works exhibited. but from this post

He added that the group decided to come clean because Silver Ribbon a group that promotes awareness of mental illness in Singapore, wanted to exhibit Wu's 'work'.
true or not i dunno...only they know. not for me to judge. :dunno:

its like the hotel fella (cant remember which hotel) who was asked to leave when it was found that he lied in his resume... even though he was doing a great job in a high profile job...

hehe..this one considered cheating cos got money (salary) involved :nono:

erm..your example definitely too much lah. the character in question is not someone we know personally.

i see 2 different things here..

1. the character was fictitious though at the time it was made to seem real
2. the "works" of the dead character are in no way a mockery to the less fortunate

let's put it this way. if from the very start the photographers had explicitly stated that the character was fictional, i don't think many would have taken issue with pt 2. so it all boils down to pt 1. ppl are upset cos they got fooled.

well, remember i said this morning about your perception becomes what i deem as depression instead?

If they really had gone thru and understand what these patients went thru, they would not have done such a clip. I mean, no schizophrenia patient will go do such a thing...

Actually time to go home, but just share abit...

Schizophrenia patients are often 'living' in their own world, with different degree of departure, and the type of stimulus they perceive. Some will have visual perception of perhaps spiderwebs forming out of their mouth, then keep trying to remove them... or hands is always dirty so keep washing (could be OCD as well)... others like auditory, the most common, hearing voices...

But i don't think they would do such a thing like go to the building to jump... its too far fetched... a very extreme point of delusion.

Our hope is to bring them back to the society... instead... how is this going to do that? To let the public understand more... well, dun fake a schizo when dunno what is schizo...

yeah like i said it was a long shot! :bsmilie:

ur view is that pple are sore becos they were fooled. u tend to take this lightly, perhaps even u urself were fooled but u are able to go, yeah no worries, move on.

we're talking about more than just a prankster and a victim. at least i am. back a few pages i really do think this is a disgrace to our local photographic community among other things (like sensationalising everythign to get published, or the possibility of insulting the less fortunate). i guess perhaps i'm very much in the photographic community therefore i take offence and am affected by more than just "i was duped and my ego is hurt". i really feel this brings a bad name to photographers. remember the fiasco with reuters manipulating images and the slack they got? this is the same. the photographers reported the images as the truth, while they might not be reuters, alot of pple believed them, and most probably because they probably couldn't conceive that any humane person would make this up!

so i guess we stand on different grounds?

and.. sorree for the long shot again lol!

the severity of the issue is the abuse of the term ''Conceptual Art'' to fulfill some egoistic claim to artistic achievement. some people have little interest in such issues, some people are more concerned about such issues, your saying that people's ego got bruised only demonstrate the superficiality of your understanding of the consequences when put into the context of art.

dun think so much...each of us have enough troubles of our own than to get upset of this. they call it conceptual art, you call it something else. at the end of the day life goes on.

Well, for the records...

I find that his statement based on the published records is deem as per information received.

Likewise, i also wonder why you are not requesting from ST to give a proper apology for the misrepresentation of your point of view and statement. For most common folks here, most would deem the newspaper report as the truth than your one sided rebuttal without rectification.

Being framed for duping others is quite a harsh allegation, reputation at stake...

yes it is a harsh allegation. ST Life! never said that. fstop did. Life! can do a follow-up if they wish to, but that is their decision, not mine. Much as I dislike some of the writing, I still believe in letting journalists (famous, infamous, rookie, lao jiao, local or otherwise) do their job.

perhaps we could agree on this only.. life goes on.

as i mentioned a few posts back. life will go on for me certainly, with three more names in my memory lor.

and we also dunno if any of them will. most of us dunno how they think or how they feel. we can only try to imagine. but the reality is probably worse than what we imagine.

what if the voice they hear tells them to jump?

what if the voice they hear tells them to jump?

well, then now we have a super long throw of protectionism... haha...

they already said theirs is the visual kinda schizophrenia... now u say its auditory... so they catch the cue, and they will change their music to Jump by Kriss Kross?

All they could do is come clean in the 1st place that its a fictional analysis of a schizophrenia patient, information from various (unknown) sources (probably TV, movie, and their own make belief)

i just add one short one hor ;p

reuters and even national geographic have to be very strict on this cos they are in the business of selling their publications. they cannot afford to fool their audience with fake photos and stories.

on the other hand, the xiaokang website was, as kaychin said, tucked away in the internet waiting for someone to stumble on it and pass the the word along. ithey did not attempt to solicit funds for xiaokang right? so if they didn't then i consider this as just a prank.

life goes on of course. but your descriptions about people who showed concerned over this issue is unfair and uncalled for. if you think it's none of your concerns, why do you bother?

they started a petition drive. and went on to describe the lie as necessary in their newspaper interviews. if they are artists, they know the limits art can bring them to, obviously they've stepped out of their limits.

really meh? :dunno: i think ppl take things too seriously. even a question about C vs N can erupt into a full-fledged war

hey guys (DCA and madmacs) i'm not sure how well u know the condition, but perhaps no need to go further on the topic u guys are discussing? we can never fully understand them and speculating in a rather (or seemingly) joking fashion isn't gonna help...?

i'm not speculating how real schizophrenics or depressed individuals feel...nor am i pretending that i do.
