ahahahah zhun zhun!
anywayz... i am still disgusted about this hoax.. but hor.. this thread has been the hottest thread the whole day, but all we are doing (for now?) is just sit and talk....
i guess admittedly, i also won't be the one to action anything. i just feel that singaporean's (at least some) always shoots themselves in the foot putting us on the map for the wrong reasons...![]()
thats y we're thinking of doing up a petition, then go to major forums in sg to seek likeminded individuals to rally the same cause... well... just ban their exhibition!
From the news reports:
1) "Photographer Tay Kay Chin, 41, who selected the pieces to be shown in the exhibition despite being aware of the hoax"
2) "Festival director Shirlene Noordin, 38, who wrote an essay in the catalogue introducing the group, said she was 'really upset' to have been kept in the dark."
I would state that Tay and the collective duped the organizer.
 i think in SG it's illegal to stage a protest... but i believe there r individuals out there who will take actions, inform others n highlight in e papers bout such things...ahahahah zhun zhun!

paiseh... cuz u mentioned no action taken... so 1st action tat comes to my mind is to protest...pls qualify ur statement.
i don't see anywhere that i've stated anything like that...
Thanks Kaychin for your detailed response.
But with due respect, do you think you have the capacity to stop this exhibition? Rectify the situation and probably get Robert and gang to explain their cause instead of changing their 'storyline' without any apologies and such.
One need to be responsible for the deeds they had done. And i do applaud you for being forthcoming to explain your stand.
Last but not least... i do hope they really come clean with the damages they had caused...

I wonder if Kay Chin, the show's curator is reading this thread (he is on CS). Would be interesting to hear his side of the story.
In the capacity as a friend, (I can't do it in anyway now since I have ZERO involvement with MOP) I have encouraged them to come clean. I don't think they should spend the rest of their lives telling one lie after another. Personally, I know they are distressed by this and want to right the wrongs. But I am not sure if they can handle all these in one go. (yes, they are getting blasted left right centre) I have also brought up the possibility of withdrawing from MOP (again as a friend) but I understand that it was not possible. The final choice is theirs, not mine.
let's put it this way.. i will forever remember thier names. In the capacity as a friend, (I can't do it in anyway now since I have ZERO involvement with MOP) I have encouraged them to come clean. Well then. Thanks for your participation in this thread.
And well, the newspaper report is rather misleading... probably you could get them to rectify the issue.
And that is one of the reasons why I always insist that a picture must be complete in and of itself, and to be viewed and assessed for whatever merit, or none, on its own. The moment it needs something exogenous then it is "pointless".Law student Tey Kian Siang, 24, said: 'I could see his suffering in the pictures. Now that I know he's fake, it seems quite pointless and distasteful. Don't they have anything better to do?'
3. I never once told Shirlene that it was real. In fact I was never asked. Adeline Chia asked me if I was prepared to go on the record to say that Wu Xiaokang is not real and I said yes. My recommendation for adoseoflight to be exhibited is very simply this (in an email to Shirlene):
"Check this one out.
http://www.adoseoflight.com/overdose/overdose.html
I like it very much."

Or more precisely, then the picture is not what is seen, but rather that you created in your own mind's eye. This however is not to say the provocation of a private and personal interaction and interpretation of a photograph in the context of whatever exogenous data - faked or otherwise - is not a valid use of a photograph. It is, for advertisement is one example of its effective use.
But then it is not merely photography anymore. And of course life is larger than photography too.
