I am not too sure about everyone else but I found it an interesting manner as to how people react to something which the have read in the papers (which some go as far as to percieve it as the absolute truth, i.e. is in the papers and therefore, it must be truth)

First off, I do not agree with the actions of the photographers. I found what they did dis-tasteful. However, in regards to the matter of Mr Tay Kay Chin, he came online to help clear the air and instead of using this opportunity to suggest ways resolve this issue, some members simply took this opportunity to badger and heckle and some decided that they should be the judge, jury and executioner.

What I am asking now is for some calm deliberation. Even if you do have the moral high ground, it would still be better to take a step back and take a few deep breaths first.

yo dp.. i think our "energy" should be directed at the three originators of this whole thing. while they may have not surfaced here, i think u and kaychin have been exchanging what seems like the same conversation over and over... not very constructive leh.

It is clear that while Kay Chin was brave enough to step forward and admit to his part in this situation, I think we should also take a step back and again, look at the situation in the right context.

It would be easy for him to just keep quiet and continue to read about everything else and not offer his comments. Why continue to hound him when he did step up? If indeed you want answers or the person who is accountable for this entire saga, then continue to write to the organisers or petition for the person who conceptualized this idea.

Does it make you feel any better, badgering someone online in this manner?

Then their work stinks, cause if they needed to 'promote' their work then what does it say about the work? That it can't selfpromote through its own quality?

I am not disagreeing with this point. What I am more concerned about is how a select few decided that he is the designated whipping boy and made him fully responsible for everything.

Generate controversy thru interpretation of work OR initiate controversy with one's work?

I'm sure great painters, artists & musicians of the past are not for the latter. I suppose that's the standard artists ought to be sticking to.

I dun recall reading a musician/artist generating a work, when ppl misinterpreted their work, they generate a pack of lies to continue leading on the misinterpretation/misunderstanding of other ppl and not clear up the air immediately.

Again, yes, you duped the organizer. You should have blown the whistle when you found out about the hoax. You didn't.

The price to pay are not people like me hounding you, it's your conscience. Can you live with yourself?

What you can do is to help take down the offending pictures from the exhibition.

And the worst thing? I'm not even of any powerful position to influence anything at all since to most I'm probably just 'an outsider' who doesn't know 'the policies' crap. Kinda like having my hands tied whilst ur enemy's happily torturing u and u know u're gonna die but u can't do shit abt ur impending death.

Kay Chin knew, but he was just the middleman. I guess if u do wanna scream for blood, taking out the guy caught in the centre of the entire matter isn't gonna resolve the entire issue. The lynch crowd should head directly to the source and smash it once and for all - the 3 perpetrators of the entire controversy, whose name I can't even be bothered to remember.

some do push the limits of social tolerance, and some even do overstep the boundaries. some consider themselves artists even though they may not adhere to your definition of artists. our perceptions are shaped by the social norms of the society we belong to, and if we are not able to reconcile certain actions with the norms that we are used to, then the action must be unacceptable.

thats why i say let the show go on. if you guys want to go down and stone the organizers and/or artists, then that is a good opportunity for you to do so figuratively or literally. having heated discussions and going on witchhunts in the forums wont solve anything.

We hereby published a letter from Angelique who would require all our help to bring this local artist back to our shore in a posthumous exhibition.

One of my collective's body of work was recently shown in London. I am not sure if you are familiar with this body of work , " Wu Xiao Kang , 1979-2005 ". Due to some unhappy brushes with people in Singapore previously , Wu Xiao Kang's work was never shown in Singapore but it has proceeded to be shown in other places. His work received tremendous feedback from Europe and China. Our server crushed last year due to the overwhelming traffic. I have been trying to push for a show with his original last roll of slides to be shown in Singapore. But there has been problems.

I am writing to you guys for a plea for help to ask for signatures for a petition to help realize a show for his work back in Singapore with the original slides to be released back to the collective. If there is anyway you can help spread this message to creatives, organisations and artists , supporting local artists whom I would like to refer to as heroes, please help!

Acceptable vs unacceptable within the confines of social norms. But its there for a reason and slowly shaped, defined, reshaped over the centuries to evolve into what it is now.

Despite the many nationalities involved, a world without social norms and its OB markers would probably be a world in chaos. I guess the human (in general) and religious definitions of "What's acceptable" is precisely to prevent the world into descending into absolute chaos where everyone doesn't have a standard guideline of 'norms' to adhere to.

Then again, this debate on norms would be left to yet another thread. Maybe its best if we stick to our regularly scheduled programme... ;p

As they say in show-biz, no publicity is bad publicity. Intentionally or not, the originators have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Distasteful, pretentious, arrogant, duplictious, all of these and more. But then, so is a lot of other 'art'.

Those of you who feel offended and want to plant an OB marker in the ground, please do so, it ought to be encouraged. At the same time, remember this occasion when OB markers are placed around you when you cross a boundary.
