What if you open and drink, then realised that you lost your wallet before entering the mart?

Actually there are some other more stupid problems that the mart face that is worst than open and drink. There are people who gotten fresh food and decided not to buy it and left it on shelf. I ever saw a pack of fish left on CD player in electronic department in the mart. Contacted the department people and they were surprise about it.

I dont see anyone railing at these cheap bums who go to bookstores and spend all day and just browse ....... NO, I mean READ cover-to-cover ....and dont buy the magazines/books (what a surprise ..... Borders is going bankrupt now)...

there are socially acceptable behaviours and there are legal laws for the bottomline. To some people, as long as you are not breaking or caught breaking the law, anything goes.... socially acceptable behaviours can go out of the window for all they care. :thumbsd:

that's the thing see...how long is eventually? can i say, 'take' a car from the street, and pay the owner 10 years later? or how about say i 'borrow' somebody's lens and dissappear for a few months, then pay then? would that be stealing or just, "creative borrowing"?

aiyoh , this one is too gray and can discuss until cow come home ...... its a personal honesty issue... drink first and then later pay or chow kah ?

to me I really dont let it bother me and mind my own business because THE ACTION (original topic) affects nobody and it is strictly between the store/supermarket and the customer

LOLZ... how about when we are in a LONG queue and before reaching counter we drink a can or 2 of what we picked up .....

or how about when customers pop those grapes and strawberries into their mouths while in the fruit section ? Isnt that worse ? You cant weigh whats already in your stomach ..... but u can tell how many canned/bottled drinks you consume...

Some supermarkets (I think JB) even have small dining tables and chairs on the supermarket floor for you to sit down and eat your bakery and have your drinks !

p/s actually I see mostly ang mohs do it (drinking from can/bottle before paying for it) ....... local auntys are more clever and go for the grapes , nuts/raisins that sell by weight ........... just personal observations

Last night i was at a supermarket doing some grocery shopping. While I was moving around the fruit juice and dairy milk section, I overheard the father of a 11/12 year old telling his daughter that “as long as we pay for it later, it’s ok”. Then I noticed that the mother had opened and was drinking from a carton drink of some kind (I could not clearly see what kind of drink). Most likely it should be from the immediate shelf in that section.

In restaurants, you get to consume before paying as there are verbal agreement/contract being made when you places your order.

In a supermarket, this guy have not made payment yet and he is already consuming it, technically would this be considered stealing since he has no ownership of the item yet?

What do you guys think?

well, i don't think so much.
but i would agree with the father and felt that there is really nothing wrong if they eventually pay for it before leaving the supermarket...

Normally when I buy a new camera, I don't fire off the shutter before paying. Heck, I even refrain from looking into the viewfinder until I sign on the credit card. I want to be a stupid anal good citizen.

never. If I test drive, it would be considered improper use of private property. If I step into the house, it would be trespassing. Usually I buy both without seeing. See, I want to be a stupid anal good citizen.

well, by drinking it, under the law, it implied he accepts the offer and he need to give consideration (in this case, $$$), if he has no intention to pay, the worse case is considered stealing which is a criminal offence.
