What's your Problem here?

ClubSNAP is a non-profit Photography Community, every cents that is needed to run and fund this comes out from many of our own pockets.

If you have no intention to join, please don't come, your voice of mocking is not needed nor appreciated here.

Cool down simon...chill out...~
Maybe he's juz commentin when he's in bad mood...
Do try to tolerate his mockey...not much harm is done nor attention is given...

My problem, i repeat, is this : "normal SEEDs dun mix well enough now must pay to mix well?"

Since this is a paid event, can I kindly ask you guys to justify why must we (ok, exclude me) pay to get together we can do it just fine without
1> paying for renting an events hall
2>DIY showcase can be done in SEED what.. cannot do in BK meh?

U mean no one actually challenged the cost of this? I'm amazed.

U say "ClubSNAP is a non-profit Photography Community, every cents that is needed to run and fund this comes out from many of our own pockets." What is the point here? We all know this - unless you're saying that by paying for events like this some of the extra funds will be used for Clubsnap as a whole if it's so then make it clear.

I noticed the poll actually assumed that everyone can afford it. Does it ostracize the poorer ones ? Maybe. What makes anyone so sure that it's my problem (oops.. I'm shy and anti-social) that i chose not to come? Why can't it that the event costs is simply not justified nor attractive enough?

Darren asked if anyone is interested. So? Members cannot say no?

what's up? Darren wants to organise something bigger in a proper place with perhaps some refreshments thrown in (check out his post above). Try to imagine 200 Clubsnappers displaying their gear in a Burger King or a food court!?!?!? And we all set up makeshift studios in the Burger King or food court!?!?!? Unless you own the place, I'm pretty sure the manager won't be happy....

If you feel it's not justified or you're too poor or you're shy or you're not interested, you could choose not to come. And if you want and can't afford it, I'm pretty sure someone is willing to sponser you.

I have some problems understanding this part. Perhaps an explanation in plain English would help.

now now... did Clubsnap ever had more than 50 ppl who gathered at one place before?

Yes, if you're setting up something like a 'roadshow', well.. okay and fine.

Frankly, i just think that Clubsnap is NOT that big to generate that kind of response that would make this otherwise successful.

I can well afford the cash. But is it even justified? Remember, Amt Money Spent is never proportional to quality of time spent.

perhaps u can tell us wat do u mean by "can't mix well?"

1: no one talks to you?
2: you don't talk with no one(no common topic)?
3: no one agrees with wat you said?
4: you expect people to speak with you 1st before you speak to them?

Now now, if you wanted to "challenged" the cost, why do so in such a mocking manner? No one ever said you weren't allowed to ask why there would be cost involved. But why ask in such an aggresive manner? Another member has actually asked what he was paying for. If you did not see it, allow me to point it out to you. 3rd post on the first page of this thread. But looked at how he came across. Says something, doesn't it?

And since when was consideration not given to members who weren't able to afford it or in your own words, "I noticed the poll actually assumed that everyone can afford it. Does it ostracize the poorer ones?"

I believe there is a category that allows people to vote for the even to be FOC. Where did you come to the assumption that the poll assumes everyone can afford it?

I don't believe it's stated anywhere within the options, explicitly or implicitly. Don't be so anxious to point fingers or make such undue claims/accusation. It only reflects upon you and what kind of a person you are.

Even if someone isn't able to pay (if payment is required), i am quite sure we will not have the heart to turn the person away if he approached the organisers regarding the fact that the cost is beyond him/her.

Like Darren has mentioned, this post/poll is to gauge the response as well as see if it would be worth the time for the organisers to hold it.

If you deem the cost issue to be a factor, then state so. If you are speaking up for the poor, undertrodden, unappreciated or whomever you are champioining for, then so much the better for you but once more, a more conciliary tone would have help and definately gone a longer way.

And to answer your question of if "more than 50 members have ever gathered at one place before". I can tell you during SEEDs, the amount of people that turn up can get quite close and some don't stay due to the space constrain.

Anyway, your point that Clubsnap isn't "big" enough to generate any kind of response for such an event, then fair enough. But the organisers can hold a poll to ask if there would be interest, isn't it?

And to address your claims that people don't mix well during SEED, let me just simply put this across to you. On who, does the onus lie on, in regards to mixing around and establishing new friendships? What are your grounds of saying so? And i'm curious to find out if you been to a SEED as yet? Was it that unpleasant an experience for you? Did someone ostracize you? Who are these people who don't mix well? Or did no one talk to you?

Don't get yourself worked up Shawntim. It's not like the outing has been set in stone. It's just the first step, checking the level of interest. If you deem you have a right to question or ask, then i believe it's only fair that everyone else, including the organisers have the right to ask/test the water, to gauge the level of interest and response.

Good day.

At this moment, there're already 54 votes on paying to join in the event.... granted not all will be able to make it but some of us going may bring friends, other halves, etc and the number won't be small......

Just to side track a bit, I just like to add from my personal experience of SEED. I've been to SEED twice since I joined Clubsnap a couple of months ago.

First, I find SEED is a good place to meet Clubsnap members up close and personal. We spend a lot of time posting and reading posts from other members and its a good to know who is that person behind the keyboard.

Second, overall people who attended SEED are generally friendly. Although I do have to point out the fact that sitting there and keeping you mouth shut will not achieve you anything. You have to put a bit of effort to get to know people. This can be a slight issue for newbies and people who are just a bit shy. :embrass:

You do feel a bit left out when you see other members sitting on one table together chit-chatting while you're sitting on another table wondering why did you come in the first place.

But I don't blame them, I find it sometimes hard to socialised with new people. But for me, since I'm there with the regulars of Clubsnap, I make the most of the situation. There is nothing to lose by knowing more people and making new friends.

And lastly, I believe the people who organised gatherings like SEED, photoshoots and other outings are wonderful. And its a great effort from them. I mean, they are using their personal time to make Clubsnap successful and help others who are new in photography.

To continue on this bit of an OT :D

Well, honestly, i went through the same thing. First time there was well, dis-orientating, since i knew no one and i didn't get to talk to alot of people but i turned up for the 2nd SEED and then the 3rd and for some shoots and before i knew it, i felt quite comfortable because after awhile, when you become a familiar face, and a few others are familiar to you as well, you just start talking and chatting with them.

Trust me when i say that alot of people like Darren, Simon, Bluestrike, AdamGoi, Megaweb, Keito, Tomshen etc etc etc (the list goes on and on) do try their utmost in making the new comers feel at home, taking the initiative to say hi first, greeting them with a warm handshake and a smile (in fact, most of us do) :D

To quote an example, just yesterday at BK @ Peninsular, i saw Simon, sharing some of his pictures and taking some time out to explain to this CS member that turned up for the first time, how he took the shot and such.

Well, that's Clubsnap for you. :)
