Wide angled noob: suggestions for which 35mm to get

Dan,

If you prefer something not too clinically sharp but fast, a optically good copy of the Canon 35mm f/1.5 LTM may not be that bad either.

Here are some users comments/images from it.

Personally, I would have preferred something a little wider, like 24/25mm or 28mm.

Cheers,

Nippon Kogaku 35mmf1.8 is also nice. I can lend it to you if you want to try.

+1 for that:thumbsup:. The Nippon Kogaku 35mm f1.8 is one impressive lens, I use to have it in S mount when I was a Nikon RF guy. It is still one of my favorite 35mm lens.

As Benny suggested, you might also be interested in the Canon 35mm f1.5, it has some nice artistic qualities and I think it might fit your style.

No worries I'm quite adept at digging my own holes for me, myself and I to fall into. Richards only burying me....remember kiddies, too much Lowlights bad for your health....:bsmilie:

...

I just got back from Hanoi this afternoon.

90% shot entirely on Canon 35mm F2 LTM, tiny & light little fella.

I gotta head down to fotohub to send in the slides & develop a ziplock bag full of film, can check how 35mm works when I get them done!

Akan datang!

After 2 days of lugging around heavy lenses and at the very painful expense of a thrown back during my travels, i am writing this post flat on my back asking for assistance. As most of you know, I'm hopeless at wides but I would like to start lightening my load and dropping down to one all round 35mm lens. Im naturally thinking about the Bokeh king however the more I read the more confused I am on what to buy.

So help me out guys, any recommendations and why?

Thanks in advance bros :)
dan - i hope that you're feeling better, and your back recovering.

if you're a "50mm shooter", i think that there is little need for you to now replace that with a 35mm just becuase you want to carry less - the shooting styles for the 2 focal lengths can be subtlely yet significantly different. for instance, the 50 is versitile enough to handle portrait, candids, environmental portraits, landscape, etc (your flickr photostream can attest to that)... as can the 35mm, but in a different style.

to min weight, i would suggest just bringing a pair of lenses - e.g. 21-50, 28-50, 35-50, with 1 body, or 2 (1 digital, 1 film). i personally travel with either a 28-50 or a 35-50 pair.

there's no need to preach to the preacher about which 50mm to bring, but for the 35, just bring along what you have for now - fujinon f/2, cv f/1.2, whichever... it is afterall, the alternate lens to your staple 50. if you're looking for a smaller 35mm that need not be kept in a safe deposit box, the 35cronIV or its derivates are good choices (canon v1/v2 and konica chrome/UC). the "dual personality" 35luxpreasph can be another contender. if you want sharp and higher contrast, can try the biogon or asph lenses.

bottomline, what i'm trying to say is don't change from a 50 to a 35 because you want to save your back... you will revert back to the 50 in no time. instead, you must want to see the world through a different view of the 35mm lens... in which case, the conversation and the journey would be a lot more fulfilling and rich!! ;)

Haha too right cj...every last word...I just need a viable excuse to the boss to buy a new toy and to start the 35mm collection. Thanks bro for the grounding though, that's the best advice for the fickle minded like me

Win already! Now a different chapter emerges...uh oh, I'm in trouble, somethings come along and burst my bubble....;p

Tks to everyone who shared their knowledge and experience in this thread.
Although I am not the TS, I followed this thread with great interest as I am more of a 50mm shooter myself.
Learnt alot. Much appreciate.

I love the Hexar AF, its one awesome camera with excellent performance and for a price less than some 35mm lenses, it makes perfect sense. This will always go into my camera bag while I keep the 50mm lens on my RF body.

I have the Silver version  while Chiff's is the black version with the silent mode. With the silent mode enabled, you can even hear a pin drop...

Just some pics to share, shot on Ektar 100... Merry X'mas!!!

Hi all seniors of RF

I have just joined the RF family and I too am searching for a 35mm lens.

But first of all, can I know what is a Bokeh King lens? I keep seeing this terminology in this thread.

Apologize for my ignorance.

It's the Leica 35mm/f2 version 4. Be prepared to fork out 2.4K SGD for a good copy.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Then how is this compared to the new 35mm f1.4 FLE ASPH?

I believe the general opinion that it is tack sharp. Bokeh wise, not too bad?

Of course, you'd need even deeper pockets to buy it.

Oops!!! You are right on e price. Hahahahaha!!!

Saw the price tag wrongly. The 35mm FLE is 8k??!!??

Is it really worth the big price tag???
