Why is Canon so quiet?

Ha ha, others get an exciting Df while we get a White Kiss.

I will hardly call the Df exciting. Weird is probably more appropriate. A misfire for sure.

But the White Kiss? I call it lunacy. Maybe not too bad in Japan...

Well Canon is tapping on the income from its 700D, 70D, 100D which will account for most percentage of its sales. There is no hurry to release the higher end anticipated models, they are watching what others are releasing and meanwhile preparing to launch those in more mature state.. Anyway ppl don't really switch systems so easily for those in higher end users.. So they can wait.. This is business strategy.. Nikon releases many products an that sounds very interesting true but isn't it they release D600 early this year and now they announce D610... As consumers who purchased the earlier version, they can feel cheated... It gives an impression that they are rushing out a product and in the meanwhile preparing a newer version for the features that they actually wanted to have if they have got more time.

You can do that for low end but for higher end, better release a more sound product... That's my opinion.. Though I do feel that Canon should start to release a few more types of products esp like the Df!!!!!!! Pity it's not Canon, seriously!!!

Don't forget. The trend to buy a fullframe is getting stronger. The first to capitalize on this will be the clear winner

While that's true, the full frame sensor will always cost ~ 3 times more than the APS-C sensor. This translates into S$1000 premium for FF cameras. People still desire for FF cameras even though, for most intents and purposes, APS-C cameras are good enough.

Full frame wins because bigger sensor is better.
The other factor is the large number of legacy lenses that many photographers own, which they intend to use with the full frame digital cameras, if necessary via a converter. In Nikon DF case, a converter is not necessary if using legacy Nikkors.

Full frame with big telephotos can be heavy.

With an ageing population in Singapore, China and Japan, camera systems that are small and light are attractive.
Hence at the other end of the scale, Micro 4/3 camera systems that can use interchangeable lenses will remain viable.
This is partly because technology has improved so much that for practical purposes of home family photos and occasional tour record shots, Micro 4/3 can suffice.

We are into 2014. Canon is still quiet.

Nikon has just announced the D4s.

Nikon has just announced the D4s.

Yes, still quiet. CR says that the 7D2 may be introduced in the 2nd quarter which is coming up.

Although the Nikon D4s has been introduced, they say that the Canon 1Dx can stand on its own as a world class camera and may be around for a little while longer.

CR has also been predicting a rash of interesting lenses this year with the 100-400 being one of them. Perhaps this is just the quiet before the storm.

Because Canon has nothing to say. No new innovation. No new products.

Now that the 2 big players have killed off most of the competition, they have no impetus to improve.

Presuming they can produce a 100 MP full frame camera now and sell it at high cost, would you buy it? Most people find 16 MP to 24 MP quite useable.

I definitely would NOT beat down the door for a 100 mp camera unless it was very reasonably priced and all other specs were in order.

Canon has proven that a 22mp camera can go head to head with a 36 mp model and still hold its own after two years on market. The IQ and reputation of the 5D classic is still held in high regard even 9 long years after its introduction.... and only 12 mps... imagine that...

I am still waiting patiently for Canon's first digital medium format... As for 100MP camera... why not? I mean... in the past when someone introduce a 10MP camera, I would be like... what the hack? My 3MP camera is perfectly usable, it must be crazy to have a 10MP camera. Now... I was like... "What? 10MP only?"

It is the same story... in the not too distance past, no one envision a 36MP FF until Nikon came out with one and everyone are singing praises. So I wouldn't be surprise if Canon come out with a 100MP for the professionals.

Ive used the Hasselblad and Phase Ones before and based on those experiences i can say one thing.

I'd rather have a 50megapixel medium format camera as compared to a 100megapixel 35mm.

The image quality of medium format is simply unmatchable by anything other than large format cameras.

Anyway the world's best mostly hang around medium format for their commercial works.

Now that we have entered into 2014, Canon is still very quiet compared to other brands despite announcing the EF 16-35mm f4L IS and EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS lenses.

2014 would be year of lenses for Canon, hope this is true. Finger cross: -)

There's still 7 months left in 2014. A lot can happen in 7 months. I predict we'll see a lot of action at the end of August or beginning of September (just before Photokina). We might even witness some pre-Christmas announcements to make things even more interesting.

The year 2014 came in like a lamb but I'm sure that it will go out like a lion.

Hope is good.

I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion.

Which one represent Canon?

I'm start to think that now Canon play 'too' safe.

The sheep at Canon could not decide who to elect as their leader, so they chose another sheep.

I think the EF 16-35mm F4 L IS is better than another body announcement.

That's a good way of looking at it. Lenses have a far longer shelf life than do bodies. The 16-35 f/4 L will be current 10 years from now or more. The same cannot be said of any body.
