Yeah, CP sticker prices are high but if u asked them, there is always a discount on the items... Got my D70 kit there last week... My eye popped out when i saw the price of a SLIK tripod ( 500DX) until I asked the salesperson for the actual price.

just ask 'Best price?'
but yeah the Lowepro bags are all marked up 50% for foreigners to come and bargain down.
I always fail to understand why tourist have always be treated differently?

This sounds pretty unfair, Singapore always proclaims to be a corruption free country and stick to rules and that........but no one here cries foul when tourist get 'scammed' at Cathay?......

Double the price for tourist!!! Wow! And that for a so called reputable camera shop???

The price is listed there and is it the recommended retail price? But How much the store is willing to sell is up to them to decide. Even cameras at different places also different price.

hongsien's main point is that the price quoted to locals and tourists is different so much to the extent of doubling the price. Whether or not they follow the RRP is totally another issue.

Actually this is juz a marketing tactic to pacify dealers in a agent-distributor-dealers engagement. Cp is the agent and being a major retailer as well as its agent/distributor for this popular brand it has to behave and look correctly so that it sales reps have a simpler task of explaining to its dealers. CP will mark up its products very high and give its preferred dealers very high discounts to entice them to sell for them since they are considered "competitor-products".
But everyone knows such prices are ridiculous and CP will give the discount to its own retail customers (including tourists, etc...). Giving agency to big retailers always have such problems and such marketing ploy is already outdated to the modern consumers.
A better method is just to be outright honest with the pricings since modern consumers can check any prices with other buyers, other countries, etc.. However because of the way Asian consumers like to have bargain as well as having a better discount than the other person, the outdated method seemed to be acceptable to many marketers.....

Its better if you know the market price for that bag.
Get an e quote from them first.

I got a bag in CP a few months back.... the first sales person who serve
me go and check out the "price list" and quote me $90...the best price she said....... then I waited for awhile and asked another sales person.... this time round the second sales person checked the "price list" and quote me $70....the best price she said. In the end i got the bag $20 cheaper!!

Just wanna share my experience with u guys.

I disagree. The price is tagged on the item, and that doesn't mean it's the PRICE for tourist. When anyone ask, they give a discount by 'checking' their price list.

We are used to 'fixed price' here in singapore.... but if you go overseas... prepare to bargain.:)

And it doesn't mean it's not their intention to mark it up for tourist either. I have no means of proving anything here, but I do bargain here :D

i think most 'foreigners' who visits South/Southeast/East Asia would all think that we are all in for the 'bargain' sadly... thats the perception even if we have a fixed price banner over the cashier... so naturally, to prevent being underpriced, they would increase price for the items and let consumers do the bargaining... (not applicable in Japan...)

anyway i am those who dun know how to bargain, so i just go there & ask, if fit buy, dun fit dun buy...

Anyway does anyone know the price for the Lowepro utility belt?
