...Perhaps it's my angst or what, but it seems that it was only until I won a few awards in photography that I feel that I can find my voice around here.
I think you should put "Awarding winning photographer" as your byline so that people can accord you with some respect.
Sorry that they have 一叶障目,不见泰山.![]()

Ironically this thread is probably the most active thread on Clubsnap currently, hahaha! :bsmilie:
I remember back in the day when I was just starting out, I didn't dare to post photos nor pose questions in fear of getting shot down. The community back then was definitely more active, but there were lots of snobbish remarks going around from senior members and certain mods directed towards new members asking what may seem like silly questions. Rashkae especially, was notorious for bashing people in the newbies section - a place dedicated to such questions. I remember getting into a huge flame war with him through PM and was glad that he got deregistered after that.
Still glad we have nice mods like nitewalk, wonglp and zaren though. Some of the others were very uppity and had this aura of 'I-am-better-than-you-so-you-better-respect-me' that I find very off-putting, making them really unapproachable. Like what nitewalk mentioned, certain members had this circlejerking community going around them, where they'll only share things with people they deem worthy. Perhaps it's my angst or what, but it seems that it was only until I won a few awards in photography that I feel that I can find my voice around here.
P.S. Miss you Wee Keat and Guoxiang~ xoxo~
thanks jon
glad to see many awesome people still active in the forum (although, we might be "lingering" in separate sub-forums) hehehe
wonglp is great help and passionate, i haven't got the chance to meet many other mods / seniors around here, but everyone that i have met so far (fortunately) have been very good experiences, so i can't really understand the problems with the "snobbish photowalk atmosphere" from the past.
then again, i see some social media photo communities displaying that sort of syndrome and that just puts people off, and that's often a major reason why people no longer want to be involved
Why, even Wee Keat aka night86mare aka edutilos who used to be quite the flamer contributed a lot of tips and reviews here.
I think you need Deadpoet more than anybody else, to critique your photos because you are anyone of those above normal.![]()
this is the engagement that is needed everywhere and available on all platforms, i think it's coz facebook and instagram (social media apps) makes it easier to interact on mobile, that's why there's more "activity" ... i'm sure the members here also appreciate and enjoy your photos, but the platform could make it a bit more "harder" for interaction - actually, is there even a "like" button for the individual post?
totally agree that it actually only need an active core group, and that will surely encourage more activity in the forum
thanks, i saw your post on the chinatown walking guide, would be great if there's another one that is specifically done as "photowalk" - and of course, if need help to organise/manage the photowalk, just make it known in your post, and will surely lend my support if schedule permits
and hopefully, the organised photowalks/events will be posted onto social media platforms, so that more users can be reached, and they can then be linked back into forum to RSVP (as per the usual practice)
setting up 1 communication group per photowalk could also be a good way to manage the event ... e.g. watsapp or instagram (direct message) group
we do also understand that we need to evolve to provide more ease of use in our forums, particularly in the area of posting images to the forums - posting links is so 20th century and we understand that people just want to post images in an easier manner.

Rarely post. Scintillation's comment exactly match my observations. While mods enforcing rules do help make the forums generally tidier, I've felt that the manner in which some mods have done so could be improved. Such enforcement might had been alright previously, but the climate and competition from other platforms ClubSNAP faces now have changed. If CS is to prosper, it needs to explicitly nurture an environment where new blood is welcomed and encouraged to participate (e.g. ask many questions, even if they are sometimes repeated). It can't be left to chance. I don't think anyone wants chaos in forums, but continuing to wield forum rules with a big stick at the first sign of nonconformity I feel does not help in making this place friendly to new comers.
And yes indeed too - some mods are really very pleasant and are clearly doing their best to encourage learning.
You must be very good as you've survived Deadpoet.
Or you only dare to post photos after he has gone? :bsmilie:
Anyone miss rashkae? Hahaha. Can we google for his existence?
