Why Clubsnap is so quiet now?

The only thing that is permanent is CHANGE!

Not just CS, all other forums are also "Hillary"...... TRUMP is the new world.

CS should concentrate on the BBB departments and also the Photoshoots/Models. These are the sections where FB, WA, etc... cannot beat CS.

Ironically this thread is probably the most active thread on Clubsnap currently, hahaha! :bsmilie:

I remember back in the day when I was just starting out, I didn't dare to post photos nor pose questions in fear of getting shot down. The community back then was definitely more active, but there were lots of snobbish remarks going around from senior members and certain mods directed towards new members asking what may seem like silly questions. Rashkae especially, was notorious for bashing people in the newbies section - a place dedicated to such questions. I remember getting into a huge flame war with him through PM and was glad that he got deregistered after that.

Still glad we have nice mods like nitewalk, wonglp and zaren though. Some of the others were very uppity and had this aura of 'I-am-better-than-you-so-you-better-respect-me' that I find very off-putting, making them really unapproachable. Like what nitewalk mentioned, certain members had this circlejerking community going around them, where they'll only share things with people they deem worthy. Perhaps it's my angst or what, but it seems that it was only until I won a few awards in photography that I feel that I can find my voice around here.

P.S. Miss you Wee Keat and Guoxiang~ xoxo~

I think you should put "Awarding winning photographer" as your byline so that people can accord you with the respect you deserve.

Sorry that they have 一叶障目,不见泰山 here.:)

I think you need Deadpoet more than anybody else, to critique your photos because you are anyone of those above normal. :)

It would end up with either him or me getting banned, and with lots of fist-shaking and "oh no now I'm gonna tell everyone how horrible both you and your attitude are so you will have no future in this industry!". But heys, not everyone can claim they are the enfant terrible of Clubsnap, right Edutilos? Oh wait, gone liao. :bsmilie:

thanks jon ;)

glad to see many awesome people still active in the forum (although, we might be "lingering" in separate sub-forums) hehehe

wonglp is great help and passionate, i haven't got the chance to meet many other mods / seniors around here, but everyone that i have met so far (fortunately) have been very good experiences, so i can't really understand the problems with the "snobbish photowalk atmosphere" from the past.

then again, i see some social media photo communities displaying that sort of syndrome and that just puts people off, and that's often a major reason why people no longer want to be involved

The Instagram community has lots of fresh ideas! Always looking forward to everyone's photo uploads. Ok lah, Clubsnap used to have a very vibrant community, most are very helpful and willing to share through outings, reviews and tutorials. Probably one or two who are really obnoxious, but the rest are cool people. Why, even Wee Keat aka night86mare aka edutilos who used to be quite the flamer contributed a lot of tips and reviews here.

You can now see him performing professionally as a flame thrower in Santosa Universal Studios. :bsmilie:

You must be very good as you've survived Deadpoet.

Or you only dare to post photos after he has gone? :bsmilie:

this is the engagement that is needed everywhere and available on all platforms, i think it's coz facebook and instagram (social media apps) makes it easier to interact on mobile, that's why there's more "activity" ... i'm sure the members here also appreciate and enjoy your photos, but the platform could make it a bit more "harder" for interaction - actually, is there even a "like" button for the individual post?

totally agree that it actually only need an active core group, and that will surely encourage more activity in the forum

thanks, i saw your post on the chinatown walking guide, would be great if there's another one that is specifically done as "photowalk" - and of course, if need help to organise/manage the photowalk, just make it known in your post, and will surely lend my support if schedule permits

and hopefully, the organised photowalks/events will be posted onto social media platforms, so that more users can be reached, and they can then be linked back into forum to RSVP (as per the usual practice)

setting up 1 communication group per photowalk could also be a good way to manage the event ... e.g. watsapp or instagram (direct message) group

Just to add sometime when I found out there is an outing ... It can be too late .. Like all available allocation are filled up. If these outing post can trigger a email notification that would be good. Not sure if that is possible in this forum platform

"how quiet is quiet?"
"Any stats to show how quiet is it now?"

Sometimes may see those similar Questions (answer) to a questions .

Or someone will question back & ask the person who had answered to provide figures to prove
(Eg how fast is fast etc), even after saying he/she works in a related industry.

Btw the clubsnap apps in android has some problem viewing the photos. Only able to view the photos in small size.

Nowadays many people uses mobile phone to view forum etc. Hope the apps will come "alive" again soon with new updates.
(I don't have stats to show how many people using phone to view clubsnap, so don't know how many is many)

And hope Clubsnap will be active again.

we do also understand that we need to evolve to provide more ease of use in our forums, particularly in the area of posting images to the forums - posting links is so 20th century and we understand that people just want to post images in an easier manner.

Yes, please make posting photos easier. I'm a complete computer idiot so Wonglp (thanks again) had sent me the ppt on how to post photos a few years ago. Managed to post a few then but it was too troublesome eventually.

Looking forward for the New and Shiny Things!!

Some suggestions - how about a section for photoshop/LR classes that Skills Future Fund can be used? Also some kind of feedback section for such classes? I for one would like to learn to use PP/LR better while feedback would help maintain minimum standards.

Also some weekly/monthly friendly competition could add some thrills and fun.

I would like to give kudos to the Pentax group. JK, ranchy, Joe, imam, Ken, and others who run some active threads and get togethers. Plus they are all darn good photographers. I don't think they have the same problems. I wonder why that is? Maybe the boss man should talk with JK about this.

Rarely post. Scintillation's comment exactly match my observations. While mods enforcing rules do help make the forums generally tidier, I've felt that the manner in which some mods have done so could be improved. Such enforcement might had been alright previously, but the climate and competition from other platforms ClubSNAP faces now have changed. If CS is to prosper, it needs to explicitly nurture an environment where new blood is welcomed and encouraged to participate (e.g. ask many questions, even if they are sometimes repeated). It can't be left to chance. I don't think anyone wants chaos in forums, but continuing to wield forum rules with a big stick at the first sign of nonconformity I feel does not help in making this place friendly to new comers.

And yes indeed too - some mods are really very pleasant and are clearly doing their best to encourage learning.

When lao jiao and flame thrower all banned, this forum is easier to maintain but without much fun.

Used to participate in various debate here and there… so fun. Think there's a doctor nick and a sports channel (ESPN) nick as well… cannot remember a lot of usernames but i do recall the fun we have in this forum. I even started a thread in Hokkien lol

Gosh… that was like 10 - 12 years ago

Actually Clubsnap has the means and the opportunity to become one of the biggest Instagram presences for the Singaporean community, like @instaSG and @exploresingapore. Kinda sad to see that although they do have an account, it's pretty empty with nothing posted in there. If Clubsnap could organise Instagram-related stuff like weekly features, etc., I think we would have a bigger social media presence, which could see people using the hashtag #clubsnap.

I've never had the honour to be banned for sparring (keyboard-warrior-ing) with him but I miss the flamewars as much as you do. ;)

Anyone miss rashkae? Hahaha. Can we google for his existence?

See lah, deregistered liao no more drama. Last time I rush home to on computer watch Clubsnap drama one ok? Channel 8 dramas have nothing on this.
