by the way, how are you folks able to find a 5mm small animal in the vast open sea?

I am looking for a secong hand digi cam also for underwater photography.

as for the animals, they are largely teritorial, thus having a Good Dive leader that knows the site and the creatures will be of good help.

Hi there,

and moi.....new to diving and photography....

Canon S30 without u/w casing.:dunno:

sorri sorri....

SL6 = eagles_creek

dont know why i become SL6....

My buddy, a 25 dive AOW holder, who has done only Aur & Tioman. She commented something like "chey, what is current at Aur & Tioman compared to Bali's".

We did our AOW together and the drift dive option, requires me to fin to move, not just for direction. Here, you fin to kick yourself away from smashing onto the coral and some what for directions.

Love that drift. Yeah, I have that nickname in Sipadan as the "runaway kid", coz I always difted away......Siok to dive without much efforts.

Budget - hmm.. Assuming that airfares remains stable, 1 week of Bali plus some basic accomodation and meals AND Mee Bakso, about $1200 or so. Could be lesser, depending on the booz and the accomodation. I skipped Air-con, for the fear of SARS and got a fan room, with natural cold breeze at night...... Siok/.....

can kiv me first... but give budgets hor!
me no camera but I really want to do a detailed vs distance dive...

While this is important, going in to the waters with a keen eyes and a child's calibre of curiousity are more important.

I discovered so much more than the previous trip.

Yes, reading up do help but also set the wrong expectation. Till now, I refused to give that extra USD tip to the DM coz I didn't get to see my Piggy seahorse. Now add Mola Mola to that list.

Well said!! Otherwise one will become "jaded" very quickly.

Apparently the pygmy seahorses are almost always found at the same seafan, unless they are "moved". However, the DM's guard their finds v jealously cos this is a bread & butter matter, and the DMs normally don't share the locations with each other. Word of mouth recommendations for specific DMs cld be useful in this respect.

Lensman, the Canon models can't focus close enough to take the pygmy seahorses (tried both A40 and S45) so 'procure' a macro lens b4 you go!!

Happy diving and shooting u/w!

Yeah, that 20cm rule. Chey.

I been advised by a buddy to measure that lenght on my arm and shoot at max resolution. Then crop it when back on a PC / LT.

That Sea & Sea set up, for an adaptor (S$120) plus lens, is almost, what S$500 !! That piece of plastic with a lobang cost $120 !! Wha...

I think I should head back to Sipadan and shoot BIG fishes. Easier on my pocket.

I know... no offence to anyone on this board but i COMPLETELY agree that the adaptor is way way overpriced!! ouch! But what to do, no other alternative available? :(

No so sure about 'easier on the pocket'- you will find that you'll usually need a strobe for decent results and that cost another $1K!

Prob best to spend the $$ on trips rather than collecting equipment which stays at home!;) Happy diving!!

I hope this is not off topic (don't kill me!) but I posted some underwater photos in the "Nature" forum for the divers in CS who may be interested.;)

;) Hi there,

Care to take underwater photos & dive where divers' quote the paradise for underwater photographer - Manado, Indonesia.

Interested, please email me for details.....

Don't bother whether you are professional or amateur - big boys underwater camera or just entry level, who cared! We just want to have fun with underwater shots.

I just came back from a long weekend trip to Bali, early last week.

Did 4 dives on 2 days and 2 days of sightseeing (there is indeed life above the cold waters of the season).

Will upload the photos once I have edited them.

Yup, I would like to seriously consider hosting a group to Bali's photogenic dive spots (marco stuff mainly). All u/w photographers welcomed......

watch this space.

went aur for the second time last weekend... by the 2nd day I was doing acrobatics in the water cos I was a bit bored liao. the bigger fish from 2 mths ago seemed to have respawned...
fun man, was doing flips and rolls and upside downs haha...

anyone taken u/w photos recently?

Here is the album of my May bali trip.

Just that for U/W shots, you may have to flip several pages to get to it. I am still trying to figure out how to sort the photos in PictureCD to my liking.

http://www.picturecd.com/system/vie...56245690.20821&album=29644&guest=1&page=4&m=a

Oh, forgot to add:

Equipments with me on every trip :
Canon S40
u/w housing
1Gb Microdrive
3 spare batteries

AND a child's curiousity on anything stationary and moves.
(after all digital film is, say, inexpensive)

All shots were done in 2272 x 1704 (4MP mode), and reduced to 640 x 480 using Jpeg resizer for upload to webpages.

Me too me three
