Lensman, i heard that august is a good time to spot the mola molas at nusa penida, but you need an experienced DM who knows where to spot them to bring you. Have you seen molas in Bali b4?Originally posted by Lensman
Was just wondering if anyone would be keen on a photographic trip to Bali for about 1 week. Strictly for u/w photographers & videographers only. Likely date, say - mid-end June.

YES! The photos are AWESOME... thanks Munwai!! Apparently there is a good chance of spotting them in Bali in the aug/sept season but you must be prepared to go DEEP... eg. 150ft. I guess that means a strobe is a necessity... no$$,Originally posted by sehsuan
thanks for the link - all the pictures (of the sunfish and other animals) are nothing short of fantastic!:rbounce:

Again, based on hearsay, the sunfish only come up to the surface in temperate climates. In Aug/Sept, there is supposed to be a cold current that runs through Nusa Penida, and this draws the sunfish up (to 100-150ft?) from otherwise unreachable depths. A friend who saw the sunfish in Bali said that the waters were super cold at that time - under 20 celcius.Originally posted by sehsuan
50 meters? but i thought the sunfish were called as such because they're like seen "basking" near the surface... if it takes to go that deep, i'm afraid i can't go - i'm only a padi owd.

btw, i believe u/w photographers are the smartest of the lot because we have to "jaga" scuba safety issues as well as photo composition and such stuff.

Likely date, say - mid-end June.
Budget - will see what is the interest range - big fish / marco life etc etc and will tailor accordingly. And the accomodation required.
I am familiar with that dive shop who hosted my last 2 dive trips there and there are plenty more to see & do...... except going to Kuta town for party - too risky for me there.
PS: I am not an instructor or a dive shop owner & associate with commercial &n financial interest in this trip. Just wan to find kakis only.
Wooah... washing machine currents are v dangerous, esp when the diver doesn't realise that he's in one and the current is an UP one!! One can easily get swept up to the surface quickly and get bends as a result of the 'quick ascent'. No joke. Looks like nusa penida is not for newbies.Originally posted by Lensman
Got caught in a washing machine that dropped me from 10 - 12 m to almost 40m. There are more to go towards the bottom. I could not read my DC which was in front of my face as the buddles smashed back at my face. Aiyah.....I worry more about my casing & camera man. Inflated my BC to max. This was a

Lensman, you'll need a u/w macro lens before you can get a decent photo of the pgymy seahorse - its only 3-5mm tall!!!!
