SAL 16-105... love the 16mm the most

also owned the 50mm 1.8 .. find it hard to compose when shooting indoor + people as the focal length is abit too far... maybe 30mm macro 2.8 will be much better cheap, fast, ideal focal length indoor prime lens.

Would like some advice over here. Got my a550 about 2 months back and really dun like my kit lens.. Too noisy... so seeking for some ideas over 16-105mm sony lens? CZ 16-80? or sigma 17-70mm HSM?

Need some info like if to compare which one would be sharper? IQ for landscape and cityscape and some portraits at time.

cz 16-80 is slightly sharper than sal 16-105

16-105 has focal length advantage + cheaper cost

both has its advantages over each other, so it all depends on what u want.

If you're on a budget, just get the 16-106, its nearly as sharp as the CZ.

Anyone compared the IQ between SAL18-200 and SAL18-250?
Is the additional 200 bucks cost purely due to 50mm more reach or better IQ?

why there are no 24-135 or 12-24 or prime lense?
i walkaround with 24mm prime in KM5D times.
those two above for 850.

There is a Tamron 24-135mm SP. I've been using it for the last 4 years or so... it's my standard lens... or walkabout lens... it's the first lens on and the last lens off... most of my shots are taken using this lens... it's a fine lens, good IQ, good focal length range and AF is ok (not fast, but reasonable)... until Sony decides to release a 24-105mm f/4 or something to that effect, it's either this lens or the older Minolta 24-105mm or the new 28-75mm f/2.8 (which costs a bomb)...

i'm loving my 28-85... cheap nice and build like a tank!:bsmilie:

used to be using the sal 18-70 as my walkabout lens but then recently developed some problem with the focusing as the focus ring seems stuck at 1 angle and giving a huge buzzing noise when turn on with cam body AF.

now wanna ask, you worthy to send to sony repair @ $80? or get a tamron 28-105 @ $100 from someone selling tamron lenses at mass sale?

anyway, both 16-105 and the expensive cz 16-80 is beyond my pockets for the next few months. :bsmilie:

The 28-105 is pretty cheap, but 28mm is not wide enough for landscape, or for group photo shots, on an aps-c sensor. I would suggest having a 18-70 over this.

Don bother repairing. U can buy a 2nd hand one for less than $80.

true, true...
and you can have spare lens to try your workmanship :p

last nite I also "manage" to have the same problem as your 18-70...
now looking for replacement...

think 16-105 is on my wish list ;)

how is the low light performance for 16-105?

I've owned a tammy 17- 50, minolta 28-80, Sony 16-105, Sony 18-250 as my walkabout lens. 18-250 being my current. Love its range and speed and sharpness.

I was surprised at the af speed given such a wide range, but it is fast.

Luv the bokeh, brightness and sharpness on Tammy, get 'sure nice' kind of pictures. but after a while it seemed to restrict my creativity... haha. I sold it and got a 50mm 1.8 for my portrait lens instead.

I got 16-105 and 18-250 at the same time to do a comparison (both having very good reviews) and after some obvious results, i sold the 16-105. the 18-250 has faster aperture throughout the same range ( i.e 18-105), and its sharper. the only advantage that 16-105 has - is that extra 2mm wide range. but at that range, image is relatively soft, so that killed the only advantage it has. (though there may be some sample variations, and i may have had a bad copy.)

After all the hunting, I am now a happy photog with my 18-250..

My walk around lens is a Sigma 20mm f1.8... or EF 20-35mm f3.5-4.5 USM...

I'm a sucker for wide angle... :P

:thumbsup:thanks for sharing. how about night and indoor?

3 sony's most used walk-around lenses (SAL1680CZ, SAL16105, SAL18250) are not fast lenses. Definitely they will suffer in the low light situations, depend on you how you manage to walk out from that situation (flash?)

No found in the poll list. I use a Sigma 28-300. It is slow, it hunts like hell, it is noisy but it is light and inexpensive:)
