Same mind same thinking :D

I'm also considering between the 24-70 and 24-105.

Just came back from the Beijing Olympics, found my kit lens inadequate.

I mostly shoot outdoors and I don't use flash.

What did you find inadequate about your kit lens?

I find the 24-105 to be more useful for outdoors than the range of 24-70. I don't have that lens, but I did own a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. I do miss the larger aperture though, but for me I prefer the reach. IS is also nice to have. Finally the 24-105 is smaller and lighter than the 24-70.

Rent one or both and give them a try.

i also prefer the zoom rather than the aperture...

If you mainly shoot outdoors in the day, then the 24-105 should be right for you. I owned both lens before but eventually decided to sell the 24-105. Make no mistake, the 24-105 produces really nice images, but somehow they did not stand out as much as those taken with the 24-70mm. I made up for the loss of the 35mm with the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS :D
