BBB!
24-105 is cheaper then 24-70 ;p

true and also lighter...gd for shooting the whole day...thanks u bros...sorry TS...seems like hijacked ur thread...;p

24-70 would be great for non-flash photography and heavy and big.. But since you already have the flash, the f4 wouldn't be any issue for the 24-105mm. Check out my flick, all on the the recent one are on the 24-105mm.

If you happen to get the 24-105mm Get a 3rd party 83J lens hood. More protection against flare and knock. http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=402626

Some food for thought: the 24-70 gives you f/2.8, which is one stop faster than f/4, and allows you to double your shutter speed for available light photography. Opening up to f/2.8, it also allows more ambient light in (if using flash) giving more context to your photos. That is something to consider also.

As an aside, the EW-83J is not a third party hood. It is an original Canon hood, but not the one designated for the 24-105L.

haha...done...bought the 24-105...

Nice choice! I know you'll enjoy it! This is my most used and favorite lens :)

why say, "This is my most used and favorite lens" when this is the only normal zoom lens you've got?

may be if you have the 3 lenses mentioned, then i'll agree with you.

wah...bro u very rich hor...get all 3...anyway i try to avoid getting overlapping lenghts...

haha...done...bought the 24-105...

I'm very generous when it comes to spending other people's money :bsmilie:

Overlapping focal lengths is not necessarily a bad thing - different lenses for different jobs. If you're shooting an indoor event and need to constantly switch between the 10-22 and 24-70, you'd quickly wish you have a 17-55 (or a 2nd body).

Like I'd said before (not sure if it is this thread) I've agonized long over the 3 lenses, and ended up with the 24-105 as it fits my needs better. I've used the 17-55 and wish I have that in addition to the 24-105. That lens, or a 180mm macro, will be my next lens purchase.

Have fun with your new lens.

There's nothing wrong with what I've said. You don't need to have three choices to pick your most used and favorite thing. It's only like having two pairs of jeans and you use the darker jeans more because you like it better

I think what engrmariano meant is that this is the only normal zoom lens you own. Taking from your own analogy, you have a pair of jeans, a pair of dress pants, and a pair of shorts, and you say that the pair of jeans you own is your favorite jeans.

I'm sorry, but we are talking about lenses here. I don't think I need to own all three lenses being compared here for me to say my most used and favorite lense ;)

chill...everyone have their own views...guys let's not get excited...

Bro, first let me say I have no problem with you saying that the 24-105 is your most used and favorite lens. I have that lens myself and I like it, and it's also the one attached to my camera most of the time.

The jeans was your analogy, I'm merely extending it. You brought it up, not me.

FWIW I don't agree with engrmariano's tone, and even though I see his point, I didn't find the remark he made necessary. I thought you misunderstood what he meant - his point being that your remark is not useful for the purpose of choosing between one of the 3 lenses, which is the purpose of this thread. You're not responding to that, I realize. I should have pointed that out. Sorry for ruffling your feathers.

No problems boss. I'm also sorry ;) I was just defending what I've said, as I wasn't expecting a reply to my post with me just saying that AndyC had a nice choice of lens :)

Let's just post constructive criticisms to boost fellow photographer's confidence :)

Case closed.

I don't think this analogy really holds true to lenses.

For instance, I use a 35 f/2 because my 24-70 is a stop too slow, not because it's my favourite lens. I use a 70-200 f/2.8 when a 24-70 does not have enough reach. I use a 135 f/2 if the 70-200 f/2.8 is still a stop too slow and I'm shooting available light.

It is all about fulfilling needs. A lens is merely a tool.

agree. the best lens is the one that does the job well and makes it easier for the photographer.

try using a 10-22 to shoot portraits. or a 400 to shoot landscapes :) you *could*, but it would be much easier the other way round.

If you are never going to FF and the 1-series, i believe 17-55mm is the right lens. Image quality wise, the 17-55mm is similar to the other 2 lenses and may even be slightly better in certain situations. The only thing is that the 17-55mm is not sealed and there have been complaints of dust problems. On a 1.6X camera, the 17-55mm covers the ideal range for a general purpose lens.
