Is the bokeh good enough for you?? Photozone.de comments.....

Sample pictures.... from digital-pictures....... But it is from a 1DmkII.....

You can see some rounds bokehs, and some onions inside..... rumored vII coming out soon too... FYI....

If you think it is good enough, you can get it..... 35mm for portraits on a APSC is a good range that I like too...... ;)

I always suggest not reading the reviews too much. The best way is to rent the lens to try it and see if it suits you. From the look of it, I guess you do not use this lens personally and is basing everything purely on reviews. Even the pictures are from those review sites.

The same lens may be junk or gem to different people. For me, I can forgo all lenses, except the 35L, but I shoot on FF.

Nope. I never claim I have this lens in the first place, and I only feedback on what I use on the 35 F2, and the 17-55mm F2.8..... I am only highlighting what to look out for only... like the onion bokeh....

Like I have said before... anyone who is buying a lens gotta do their own homework... and I am offering assistance from what I have read... and photozone has been quite reliable for me since and I have trust in it....

So do you mean I should just shut up since I do not have the lens??? Not as if you are very helpful either.... though you own the lens.... how about some recommendation from you????

Cool it bro, I just making a suggestion on rental route, nothing personal.

These review sites often gives reviews based on certain default test criteria, which in day to day application, it may not hold true. To give you an example, they gave 2 star out of 5 rating to optical output of the Sigma 50mm and 30mm. Being a user of both these lens, I can safely tell anyone who saw that review, either the person testing the lens got a really bad copy, or he is brand bias (the 3rd one I keep it to myself cos it will be personal). These 2 lenses are outstanding lenses and offer great value for money. Focusing issue is over-hyped. Frankly before getting these lenses, I was pretty much affected by what I read, but after owning and using them extensively for what I shoot, I told myself never to go read review from that site again.

Finally, if I am using a APS-C now, there will only be 1 choice for me, and that will be the Sigma 30mm. It will serve what bro farbird wants real well. Again, take what I say with a pinch of salt. Borrow from friend or rent it to try out first before committing.

Even if the photos are not from me, the issue is the bokeh, and it was well highlighted in the light OOF shots.... and so what if it is not my pictures???

At least I bothered to try to help a fellow photographer here to take note of what to look out for.... while though you have the lens, your contribution is to make cynic remarks.......

I bought a few lens based on the photozone review... and after I tested it out, I have found that they have been pretty reliable for my 17-55, 35 F2, 24 F2.8, 135 F2, 17-40, 70-200F4L.... so I can say that it worked for me........... who cares if you have a 35mm if you are more interested to show off you have one than to help a fellow photographer.... :thumbsd:

The earlier reply was replied before I see your reply.

I agree that the renting is a good way to test the lens out, but if you do not know what to look out for in the first place, how can we ensure that he will not get buyer remorse???

So I am highlighting to him what to take note of only....

What you are suggesting that the review site are Pro manufacturing than 3rd party maker............. I had bad experience with 3rd parties lens, so I no longer consider third parties lens as an alternative........

Of cos, farbird have to decide what to buy.......

Chill guys. 35mm L is a nice lens to own and use, regardless of reviews. Many swear by this lens. My concern now is whether to get the 50mm 1.4 and back a few steps and at the same time save $$ or dive to 35mm L and save hassles.

The 50mm bokeh corners are not that nice on FF but shd be acceptable on apsc.

If there are any shutterbugs here on 60d with 35mm L, I would like to see how they like it vs 50mm 1.4 if they'd owned the 2 lens b4.

Again, chill. Though I am asking abt personal preference on the lens on crop sensor, no need to get too personal in defending individuals' choices.

Anyone know how much is it to rent?

You have a serious affliction. Do you think you can cure this desire with a 50 f1.4? I think not. As we always say here, resistance is futile. Surrender to your desire and you will find release. :vhappy:

We all need to see our shrinks for our addictive needs

Is it ethical for us to organize a gb order list of L lens and walk into a store and ask for best price with the order? Too aggressive?

The 35L is the most popular L prime so far.
My question is, if Canon were to release a 35L Mark II, would you switch from your existing 35L?
Or WHAT will make you upgrade to a new 35L II?
Sub-Wavelength structure Coating? IS? Superb MTF? f1.2? Weatherseal? More circular aperture?

I was never a prime person until I tried out the 35L & 135L combo. Now the L zooms just seldom see daylight. The primes are that good!

I can say is the 50mm F1.2L & 135mm F2L. =3

I am surprised that the 50L, an extremely common focal length, is only about as popular as the 24L, a highly specialized lens.

I am planning to get the 5D MK III (body) and the 35L this year. A first upgrade since 400D. Planning to use prime only configuration :)

Congrats! Great plans. Wonder when the 35L Mark II is coming?
