The 35mm f/1.4 L....
really amazing..

Even with the CA when wide open, bokeh is excellent..

Separation between the subject and background is distinct due to the creamy bokeh.

My selphy printer finally in use to put my shots to print [ without shame ]

Looks like you bought ur 35 1.4? I still love my 24 f1.4 :)

Hehe, wallet hurts after buying...

I hope they dun come out with a mark 2 anytime soon.

May get a sigma 30mm f1.4 or samyang 35mm f1.4 also...
just to try

any idea whats the est. grey market price for it? I looked up technogadgets and its about ~1850

not sure if its worth paying 200+ more for the 1yr canon warranty, very close call!

it depend on your budget whether 200+ for 1yr warranty or you dare not to have the warranty because u save 200+

As usual.. the debate regarding pay less - without warranty or pay more - with warranty.
If the $200+ is important to you. Then go for the cheaper option.. (New lenses dont usually have fault especially for new ones (IMO)..but dosent mean none at all just quite unlikely).

But if its really troubling you..to keep your mind at ease. Then No choice..gotta spend alittle more..

So far I have not bought any grey lenses as I wanted to support my favorite shops. But so far I have also not felt the need for warranty for L lenses, otherwise I would not have bought them. They have proven to be quality and reliable products. Also you should be able to get shop warranty for grey lenses. So save the money.

One vote for 135L lens, good, fast, sharp, and CHEAP.

samyang have bigger elements [ bigger filter thread size @ 77mm ]

though manual, many say that the optics and bokeh is as good as[ if not better than] the 35L

A backup plan in case I need the cash again and still wanna have a 35mm f1.4 lens..

I dun think the prime L lens are prone to failure of the AF mechanism.

And if your camera is capable of MFA, u need not send the lens back to do any adjustments [ if not out by too much ].

The only thing to consider now is whether to go shops and choose the sharpest grey set or to order from ebay/hk without testing.

I am owner of 35l f1.4 also. Have u got any shot in indoor. Without flash high iso?

Any sample like f2 below. Shallow dof?
Any focus issue or soft image?

hey guys, thanks for the replies!

will collect more quotes and decide..

@farbird
nice pics! the bg blur from 35mm is damn good!

heheh the 35mm L f1.4 is the only way to get 50mm perspective [normal single eye view] on a crop sensor...

There are the 30mm sigma f1.4 and samyang 35mm f1.4 but each has its caveats and advantages...
since the 35mm L combines the best of AF and optics , there is not much to consider[ other than to pain pain spend one time than to experiment and waste even more $$.]

Some might suggest get a FF body and a economical 50mm f1.4. [ bokeh on 50mm shd be creamier than 30mm due to focal length ]..

But going FF means I'd have to pay for pricier 16-35 and 24-70 [ currently on efs 10-22 and 17-55is], I feel that i am v happy with the 2 efs lens that is very well made for the crop sensors.

That being said, one day when 5Dmk2 drops to about 1.5k, i will still buy........hehhehe

and by then, maybe buy the 50mm L too!

Thanks for the compliments... She is my firstborn.

appreciate the efforts to browse my blog...

Thanks for sharing, your daughter is really cute. You have even nicer shots of her in your blog with simpler backgrounds. Nice bokeh of trees is very difficult.
