I only got 50mm f1.8

50mm 1.4 for indoors, 85mm 1.8 for outdoors!

Good choice  50mm works very well outdoors too.. given that it is wider on a 1.6x crop.. I find the 85mm a little too long.. I own both.. but I think I use 50mm much more

ya man.. I had the 50mm f1.8. The moment i got my 50mm f1.4, the f1.8 was destined to be sold. Remove both lens caps from the 50mm f1.4 and marvel at the huge clear glass.

Marvel at the bokeh and sharpness which no other lens at this price could possibly compete.

Same here~ 50 1.4 one of my fave prime lens altho i personally dun own one... Haha

Well, it's a fixed focal lens, and f2.8 is large, bright through the viewfinder, also I find the pictures using this lens is crispy sharp as well as rich in colors.

Or is there another high criteria to qualify to be regarded Prime?

:what:

Why not 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 (or even f/1.2)? These are all original Canon EF lenses, and are brighter than the Sigma 50mm f/2.8. Heh.

Agree! and why not Nikkon's 1.4 or even tamron??

why stop at the 70-200? the 300mm F2.8 is also a fantastic portrait lens.

yup. have came across one post (from photo.net, i guess), some even use 500mm/600mm for fashion portrait.
it all boils down to what kind of 'portrait' one is looking at.....
in terms of focal length: creative portrait shots (~10+mm)? environment portrait? street portrait? studio portrait? 'car show portrait'?......
in terms of available light: faster better....

if this is not in Canon forum, sure STF will be mentioned :bsmilie: sorry, OT a bit....

So too is the EF 600mm f4L.

Didn't include the super long lens as they are not commonly used for portrait ..... Too heavy to carry and walk around for portrait for normal user .....

I observed that not many people vote for the 70-200mm F4L. Any idea? This should be a lens which is light and easy to carry around especially for outdoor portrait shoot.
